Eh?  Ultimates was ace, you fool!  Dukes of Hazzard was pretty bad though.  Horrible on almost every level.
Pffft...

Ultimate Universe stuff's good (mostly) - better than the sorry shape that the main universe is in

They could build the ship on Earth and beam it into space and then they could beam the wet decals onto it!

"As a former Trekkie (clean these past five years, guv)"

Yeah, Enterprise did that for pretty much everyone.
I think Kirk's just out of the academy in this, and I don't think they give freshly-built starships to the first ham actor passing at the time (insert your own Scott Bakula joke here).  Most likely he's working his way up during the movie, maybe serving under Pike as a nod to the original series.

"Don't see the point of disregarding the known history of Trek in a reboot, in fact don't see the point of going over old ground with a re run of the original characters, smacks of a lack of ideas. Is this REALLY the best idea they came up with?? "

I'm not so sure it's a lazy idea. Bottom line, Trek has always been viewed as a niche thing, the films were directed either by fairly small time people (however good they were at it) or by in-house staff, like cast members. And over the last decade or so, Trek has become very stale, to the point where even die-hard fans are giving up on it.

By going back to the beginning like this, with a very popular director, I think they've got a good chance of re-introducing a Trek franchise that can actually attract audiences instead of making people think "It's Star Trek, I'm keeping away."
You're at the precipice Tony, of an enormous crossroads.

And it can't be worse than Star Trek: Nemesis, can it?

From the trailer, its looks like very dark views than star trek?

and sadly I like Star Trek Nemesis!

***Just a thought but wouldn't all the decals be put on after the construction of the ship? ***

Yeah, but then they would have had to transport large bowls of water into space to put the decals into.

Genius, pure genius.

very wow, it looks less plastic more metal!

Buddy

As much as I have reservations about this I am really likeing the look of this.

They at least appear to be trying to stick close to the spirit of the original series.

Looking forward to the nylon jerkins, flairs and ankle boots!!

DarkHorizons has a story for new trek trailer:
"Story: A reinvention of the Trek franchise sees an elderly Spock heading back to the time when he first met a young Captain Kirk in order to stop a group of renegade Romulans from killing his former captain and changing all history."
