It'd be interesting to know what's a viable subs number. 100? 500? 1000? Hard to tell, really. And, yeah, it would be good to know exactly when subscription issues would start appearing. That it doesn't say after you subscribe is deeply weird.

In other words, still following the line Garland suggested.

Quote from: IronGraham on 06 September, 2014, 10:39:56 AMnot a review just wondering if anyone else has had the last two pages of the program stuck together? I've contacted the droids about this.
Yep—same here. I guess there was a dodgy batch.

Quote from: Molch-R on 05 September, 2014, 05:37:50 PMIf they're NOT a success in the test areas then it won't be spread out to the rest of the country and will end with these four issues, which would obviously be very disappointing.
Nuts. If I were in a test area, I'd happily buy a few, just because. Well, good luck on this. Presumably subscriptions will be examined in order to decide whether to proceed with the full series?

And given Future's brutal focussing on consumer technology, it'll be interesting to see if even that mag survives for long.

Well, blast. I was going to go on a hunt at the weekend, but I guess I'm at the wrong end of Hampshire, then. Almost (but not quite) worth braving a trip to IKEA, as an excuse...

The more I see about the evolution of media, the more I think books per se aren't going anywhere. I think 'throwaway' ones might, but books you want to keep or read again and again remain better in paper than digital.

So rather than cutting out the material itself shouldn't we just do the sensible thing and ignore the rags? Or do people still give a shit what The Daily Hate Mail think?

Come back to us on that when you're Director General.
And when your corporation isn't under constant attack from MPs, the entire rest of the media, and quite a lot of the population.

OK, spent a pleasurable few hours last night reading this so for those asking the contents are:
So what size is the book compared to a typical 2000 AD trade?

Oh God. Buy the first four just so I can get I Am The Law bookends for the Case Files shelf?
Probably worth noting that this would be the first four deliveries and not the first four books—and the fifth delivery for anyone starting with issue 1. So you're talking 76–79 quid by that point.

Nice covers—very striking; interesting to have extra content; truly bizarre spine image that has bugger-all to do with Dredd and would be better suited to 2000 AD: the zarjaz collection (or something). Still, nice to see Dredd getting his own collection; grud knows how far it'll get. (It'd also be great to see, like with the Marvel one, what's coming up.)

So in terms of costs, it looks like 20 quid per month, which gets you two books, but they're also hardbacks. I imagine some of the longer arcs will be split over a bunch of separate books. Still, there's this:

"You are free to cancel your subscription at any time. You will be able to keep your free gifts and you will not owe any money for goods not yet delivered."

Unusual for a subscription.

Thanks for the ideas. Some were on my list, but there's also some new stuff here.

I'm not sure about the web vs app thing—for all kinds of reasons, apps still often have the edge. However, who knows?

Books & Comics / Feature on digital comics - any ideas?
02 September, 2014, 07:14:53 PM
I'm currently putting together a feature on digital comics for a British Mac magazine. The idea is to provide some insight into the industry, how it's changing the nature of comics, and also how it might change the presentation of comics in the future. The piece will be somewhat iPad-based and biased, but I do want to explore not only 'apps' (such as Sequential or 2000 AD's own) but the wider nature of digital.

So if anyone here has any recommendations or ideas regarding what might be interesting to include (apps/companies/businesses/presentations/people), I'd love to hear them.

Other Reviews / Re: Zenith Phase 1 Hardback
01 September, 2014, 02:20:40 PM
The interludes are the one thing that concerns me about this series of hardbacks. They are totally essential for the full story of Zenith, and to be in the right spots. Previous responses on the board made me wonder whether we would get them. As for the lack of 'next prog', that's a pity in one sense, given the pop-song references!
