Title: The Thin Ice Awards 2011
Post by: Roger Godpleton on 29 December, 2011, 09:34:43 PM
These awards commemorate the best in commenting on this board in 2011. I can say that it has been an odd year for me and this place has certainly been of aid to me and my sanity.
The categories are below:

BOARDER OF THE YEAR

THREAD OF THE YEAR

Please pick your top three in each category. Three points will be awarded to your number one, two points for number two and one point for your number three.

My boarders of the year are:
1. King Trout
2. Jared Katooie.
3. Joe Soap.

Mods, can this get stickied?

Boarder:
SBT
CF
Proudhuff
But thanks to all of you for your entertainment and in rare cases education.

Thead:
Cyberleader's "My social life problem"!
Can't think of another thread that comes close, unless bumsex girl and shit through the letter box were this year but I think not. (Hope my wife is not reading this over my shoulder! That don't read well to the uninitiated.)

I assume the latter is referring to Poogate. If so, both of those were nominees in the 2008 Thin Ice Awards:

Boarder of the Year

Thread of the Year

No competition, as this goes into the list of all time classics:

* Something that won't be happening this year.

Boarder of the year:

1 Buttonman - Always makes me laugh, from his letters nonesense to his Microsoft Paint rubbish to his more recent culinary photos. Witty, yet mental!
2 CF - A true and very passionate ambassador for the comic. Honest in his views which often fly in the face of others (including my own!) and absolutely wicked in his Judge costume!
3 Ming - Our hotline to ThreeA and, more importantly, over on the ThreeA forum, the 2000AD oracle who tirelessly preaches about the comic. He's also very generously organised some lovely, rather costly, surprises for people for which he'll always put his hand in his pocket.

HM - Emperor, for all his behind the scenes work and Bluemeanie for the excellent ECBT2000AD site...

Thread of the year - Easily the Advent Calendar. It was amazing to see the talent and creativity on this board, I was genuinely excited each time an entry was added, and the pro's really did us proud this year.

I love this place.

Boarder of the year-

CF- for the reasons outlined above, and for taking his 'board identity' over into real life and being a genuinely good guy there too.
Pete Wells- for organising stuff, for his blog, and for services to maths. And for the sheer suspense generated by not indicating if he's considered that people could conceivably vote three times in the 'cover of the year' survey, across three websites. Im sure safeguards are in place, but if not then i foresee an explosion to equal last year's mathstastrophe.
Leggy Shark- for obvious organisational reasons.
Splendid fellas, all of them.

Thread of the year-

My social life problem can anyone help?
The advent calender.

As usual I find myself the beneficiary of the entirely undeserved generosity of many boarders, including Mogzilla, The Cosh, Ming, Mikey, Pete Wells and Commando Forces.  They've made what has been the shittiest of years a lot brighter.   To pick one major instance, I really can't describe the lift I got when Mongrol landed in my deserted strip-mined former office, once I got over the sheer shock, and daft though it sounds it's actually sustained me to the end of the year.

Obviously my votes should be drawn exclusively from this pool of cuddly fools, but I'm going to take my off-board gratitude out of the equation and nominate soley on the basis of overall contribution to my enjoyment of the forum as-she-is-written.  There are worthier boarders to be sure, folk like Trout, Emperor, RAC, CrazyFoxMachine, Emperor, and the aforementioned Wells and Burdis, who keep the forum running and fllled with fresh content, but these three are the ones that put a smile on my face almost every time I log on:

3. Joe Soap.  Just a funny fecker.  I was torn between Joe/Garageman and George Dread/Krombasher for the most brilliantly pointed individual posts, and while I think Krom's prose is the sharper of the two, this almost-movie-year has give Joe ample opportunity to slice and dice the unwary with his inside knowledge of the industry and solid common sense delivered with an acid-coated scalpel.

2.  The Legendary Shark.  I'm not a regular chattroomerer (seriously, I spend far too time here already without committing long stretches of an evening), but I love TLS's wacky and thought-provoking threads which have proved very illuminating for me, even if not necessarily in the exact way he intended!

1.  Roger Godpleton.  RG tickles my funny bone like no-one else can (not even his Mum), and I missed his savage crudity and occasional intelligent insight hugely during his absence.  Welcome back you nasty little scrote.

HM:  Campbell come home!

Best thread:

3.  Cosplay (http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,29882.0.html).  This took over from the Underwear thread as my guiltiest board pleasure. Keep googling, you pervs.

2.  The Advent Calender 2011. Incredible, just incredible  a winner in any other year, but...

1.  This year, there can be only one Number 1- a Joycean peregrination through the powercut fumbles and charity shop rummages of the early 21st century.  Douglas Coupland seethes with jealousy that Cyberleader got there first:  My Social Life (http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php/topic,31575.0.html)

Double Post:  I meant to also record my appreciation of Goaty's contributions (but somehow mentioned Emperor twice instead) - his SillyWorld cartoon gave me numerous chuckles, and his trailer links kept me up to date and entertained.  Keep up the good work, you daft man.

My top prize goes to Roger "Irrelevant" Godpleton as boarder of the year. He can always be relied upon to do his worst, yet sometimes he seems almost human.

Second, I vote for Proudhuff and third goes to Tordelback, just because they're good guys.

I don't want to vote for a special thread, as practically every thread on here shames us all. You magnificent bastards.

A Happy New Year when it comes, fellow Squaxx!

Boarder of the year:
1] Jim Campbell. He said he'd leave and he's stick to it and the board is the poorer for his absence.
2] King Trout. He's the voice of reason and has kept me in check and is the voice of my better angel.

Thread of the year:
The ones that get deleted.

Thanks for the votes Pete, alas the deal is hereby reneged upon and you get nothing! nothing I tells ya hahahahahaha.

My most enjoyable thread was the one about the riots - comedy gold all over that one! Those liberated Nikes and cartons of milk chocolate Heroes fair got one over on the man. How we laughed through our looted Bollinger in our Murdochian tree house!

I don't really approve of these threads as they are basically popularity contests and turn into a massive circle jerk where everyone is great and in love with each other as long as you buy my comic/visit my blog/shag my sister. With that in mind I nominate.

1) Buttonman - Only 332 posts this year but check the quality. Check all you like you won't find it. 60 lbs dropped off his fat ass and a massive 11 letters published this year which saw him equal the long standing letters record of 83. Next year he plans to put on 11 stones and write 60 letters. he doesn't allign himself to any cause and fires brickbats and bouquets in equal measure at allcomers. His catch phrase 'Shut up, that's why' is the talk of every schoolyard and there is a rumour that he frequently engages in sexy antics with a variety of porn stars and actresses. Well as long as Virgin Media get their finger out.

2) That guy.

3) Him, you know the one with the thing.

(How the Hell did that happen?)

I love you all (bar one).

My favourite threads, though, are the Art Comp and Short Story threads in equal measure. Heh, that'll bugger up your scoring system!

2) Legendary Shark: For providing us with Yap Shop every Wednesday and for his truly incredible talent for smutty puns.

Yes, but before one of our brethren who actually IS a "hero" in the course of their normal life, or who has done something genuinely impressive and heroic pops up and pours scorn, may I point out that I literally merely jogged twenty feet or so and told a Rescue Man that someone had fallen off a cliff. So, should anyone be thinking of voting me "king of the board" for that reason; please reconsider! But lovely to have votes, all the same and I thank you. If Helena Bottom-Farter can get a gong for "services to entertainment" (and please, don't start me off on that one) then this award should be fair game for anyone!

If you can help someone discover new sexual slang, then you'll be a man my son.

My brother and I once had to explain to my Dad the difference between a cock ring and an Arab strap... A combination of Cassell's Dictionary of Slang and Roger's Profanisaurus means there is very little you can't... put your finger on.

Boarder of the year:

1. Emperor: for giving us the gift of the immortal phrase sex-apron:

Oh dear - you've gone from potential sex apron to possible future sex apron maker. Not a good place to be - skinning women, stuffing them with shredded, soiled undergarments and using an intricate series of pulleys to make them seem alive is really no substitute for the real thing. Re: My social life problem can anyone help « Reply #601 on: 14 March, 2011, 04:06:26 PM » -Emperor.

2. Cyberleader2000: for providing the pretext for the above and contributing posts in a stream-of-conciousness lingua Alan Moore would kill Glycon for...and...of course, retrospectively giving us Arsom. He has shown how rich a contribution/what a difference one boarder can make to our continued sufferance.

3. I love you all: Fight amongst yourselves.

Next year im going all-out to snatch second place from cf (i feel roger may be untouchable). Im going to hang around the top of that cliff chucking fuckers off it, just so i can call the rescue squad. And i shall defend indefensible films while making as many filthy gags as possible, til my small blue heart bursts!

But im humbled that anyone bothered to type my name- thank you.
