Title: Vote stuffing
Post by: Wake on 01 September, 2004, 09:01:16 PM
I've just discovered a second case of vote stuffing in the database, where a user seems to have created nine extra usernames just to cast multiple votes. I've just deleted these extra votes (379 of them) but thrillpower is only recalculated after a new vote is cast - or an old vote is recast. I've done this for John Wagner and Brian Bolland, but don't be surprised if various other creators suddenly jump next time you vote.

I have no problem with people using the extremes of the Thrillpower scale, but I will delete the extra votes if vote stuffing with multiple usernames has occurred.

I don't understand the point of this. It is a fan index, and nothing voted for here matters a jot. Trying to wind people up seems to be the only reason for this behaviour and if you have that much time on your hands you should be trying to do something creative, not making Wake run around tidying up after you.

Rant over.

Neil Gaiman Best Droid Of All Time? That's a bit odd...

I'm not that surprised. Many people rate their favourite creators highly, and don't rate other creators at all ... until those other creators suddenly appear in the top 20 droids above their personal favourites.

Neil Gaiman has only recently reached 10 votes (the minimum required to appear on the top 20). I doubt he will stay on the top row for long.

Heh. I experimentally removed my vote and it dropped out of sight, but put it back in so people will be encouraged to vote.

I was just checking some of my votes - and realised I'd not voted for Strontium Dog. So I did. Suddenly, he's jumped up ahead of Dredd as Top Character!!

I'd rather not divulge who it is, but I will say that the culprit has an icon but not a profile page.

I have an icon but no profile, but it ain't me ;)

Can hardly get me ass in gear to vote for the stuff I do like, let alone stuff the ballot boxes...

It's a crop of deadlock made for me by max.

Is that enough of an explanation?

strange action.
its a purley fan based part of the site isnt it.

still wake has sorted it out and put it too rights.which is not something he should have to waste his limited time on.

so much work is involved by a key few people behind the scenes to keep this site great. to have to trouble themselves with such behavoir is sad.

whom ever it was. and you know who you are.
play nice. what you did is not the way here.

The Hive Mind Disapproves Of Such Behaviour.

Except When It Comes To 2000AD's Nominations For The National Comics Awards.

So this thread has nothing to do with the 2K Christmas party then?

It would appear that I am the tenth boarder to have voted on the thrill-rating of Droidlife and Ro-Jaws' Robo-Tales. The mere fact that I voted for either has put them both in the top 20.

Yikes!!
