Film & TV / Annihilation
10 April, 2018, 10:15:37 AM
Anyone else noticing the parallels between Annihilation and 2000AD's 'Glimmer Rats'? The hole into a alien reality, the Shimmer/Glimmer, the futility of sending in troops, the mental illness inevitably produced by long-term exposure, the shadowy and deceitful government, etc. I wonder whether the author read the prog. We know the director of the movie adaptation does!

General / Zenith

I never read Zenith, and now I hear rumours of its return I'd like to catch up. Can anyone confirm - does the published trade one sees on the shelves (with the yellow/black thunderbolt spines) contain everything printed so far?

General / Acclaim
07 August, 2016, 02:02:57 PM
Does anyone know why the word 'Acclaim' sometimes showed up as graffiti in some early 90s Dredd stories? I've spotted it several times in both Book of the Dead and Frankenstein Division while reading Case Files 20, and it's done in the same way every time it appears despite the vastly contrasting artists  (Dermot Power and Ezquerra).

General / Megazine back-issues

Hi all. If I buy a print copy of a Megazine back-issue, will it come with the floppy reprint issued at the time? I'm after a physical copy of Purgatory, because completism.

General / Trying to recall a particular story...
24 August, 2015, 01:36:11 PM
I'm trying to find a strip that I read back in the early/mid 90s. I'm pretty sure it was a one-shot (a Future Shock?), and it may have been in an annual.

I *think* it was black and white.

The story went like this: a massive spaceship is floating through space. All the crew are dead, and the ship has become infested with hordes of a spider-like alien creature. The ship has some sort of AI program that is meant to clone a new crew-member in situations like this, complete with all the memories needed to survive. The story begins with such a clone being grown in a vat, but the memory implantation doesn't work properly and the clone emerges confused and alone, eventually becoming a semi-feral creature living surrounded by technology it doesn't understand, while occasionally fighting the aliens. Eventually it is killed by the aliens, and the strip ends with an frame showing the new clone being produced, tipping you off to the endless cycle.

It's stayed with me, and I'd love to read it again. Can anyone help?

Other Reviews / Dredd: The Complete Case Files
24 August, 2015, 01:27:31 PM
Greetings

I've started to collect the Complete Case Files, and lovely things they are. I was wondering whether there is a thread/blog/other resource where I could find out more about the publishing history of these collections.

I'm curious about the decision-making behind some of the content choices. For instance, how come Vol 3 is so much smaller than Vol 1, 2 & 4? I note that there is a big variation in size across the volumes. Why not include the same number of progs per volume? Is this in order to keep the epics and other big stories within single volumes?

One day someone should create a range of dust covers for them to stop people like me from freaking out about the spines not matching.

I'm aware that the later volumes are in colour. I assume that this coincides with the prog going full colour? Because prior to that the strip often had at least some colour pages I think? Shame not to see those as they were originally printed.

Is there a reason why the volumes (at least 1-4, which is as far as I have got) don't have an index page? Seems like an odd omission.

I'd be grateful for any tips.
