What do you reckon?

House of Usher

I reckon I was really surprised when I saw this on the BBC news website, because we seemed to be talking about this more or less when I first joined the website, and not being a Londoner myself, I had imagined the statue had already been finished, put in place, and possibly even been replaced by another one already.

STRIKE !!!

It all seems a bit gratingly worthy to me.

I'm not very big on statues of living people, it seems wrong somehow - that said I think the statue of Thatcher without a head might have gone down better.

I think vandalism is reprehensible, but that was... so cool!

And yeah, statues of living people, a bit wrong; but it's not a statue of Alison Lapper as such, is it? It's about her body.

Bet you'd think it slightly less cool if it'd been your sculpture- no matter who it was of.

It reminds me of that 'comedy terrorist' no-mark who daubed paint over somebody's work in a gallery- just for the resulting attention.  Call me a neanderthal if you will, but if that'd been my work, he'd have gotten himself some attention of an entirely different and altogether unpleasant nature.  The wanker...
Pffft...

Adrian Bamforth

I saw a BBC news page with people's opinions on it and somebody had written that it was the modern "Venus De Milo". I mean it must be just as good - this one hasn't got arms either!

So do I. I can't properly express why but it's just really engaging and quite lovely.

a bit gratingly worthy, yet also lovely and engaging

I think it's the best thing they have on the plinth so far

The statue is nice but , and it might be just the wierd angle causing the foreshortned leg effect, it reminds me a lot of Joel Peter Witkin weirdness

No, Johnny, the subject of the sculpture has short legs.
