I've been trying to find out the title of a film that was on late night TV at least a couple of times in the 90s, but can find nothing. What I can remember:
It's a black and white 1950s(ish) British thriller. It's set in a small town or village. A woman with a young son meets a handsome American who the boy calls "Cowboy Man". Tne boy dresses like a cowboy. There have been assaults (murdrers?) on local women by a nutter, and the climax takes place in a theatre and involves a pantomime dame.
Does anyone remember this?
I guess its not much but i found this link

Thanks but I've already been through all those pages from 1945 to 1970, and done all sorts of searching. Haven't found anything.
Any idea on actors names or locales used ?

probably wrong but it brought it to mind somehow.
No idea about actors. No-one very famous I'm sure.
And it's not a Powell/Pressburger masterpiece though it has a similar plot to A Canterbury Tale, if grubbier.
Result! Got the answer on a film forum. (http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/)
The Impersonator (1960) (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Impersonator-Time-Kill-DVD/dp/B001Q58KU0)
Hooray! Though I was stumped. Still at least you know CraveNoir.
Good news :)
