The comic uniform would just look daft if translated to the screen literally.

Not really. Go to any convention and have a gander at the Planet Replicas judges walking about.

Walking about, yes, they look fantastic. 10 seconds into a fight with a futsed up street juve and both those pads would be lying on the floor and the Judge would be strangled by their own neck chain..

I mean, you know if they were to fight in those uniforms in a tv show it... it wouldn't be a real fight...?

Yes PJ, I understand that *withering glare*, but what I mean is they look like they they wouldn't stand up to much punishment or look very convincing on-screen as suitable attire for law enforcement officers on the front line in the most violent, crime-ridden city on Earth, which the 2012 uniform very much did. Just get the shoulder pads pumped up and it'd be perfect.

I really liked the 2012 movie uniform, but it wouldn't have been a bad idea to just beef up the shoulder pads a bit. It would have been perfect then.

As far as content for the new show, I'd LOVE to see Chopper as a regular character, showing his rise from frustrated scrawler to skysurfing hero of the people. Add in an ongoing 'America' storyline, random Mega City craziness a la The Graveyard Shift, chuck in Citizen Snork and Otto Sump for light relief, then end the season on a multi-part epic (The Cursed Earth or Block War) and I'll be in heaven.

The Order: Baffling, utterly incomprehensible, no idea what on Earth was happening... only joking! Like any moderately intelligent person I understood it perfectly

Ok so I am trying really hard to not take offence at this comment...just because someone finds a story not that easy to follow doesn't mean they aren't intelligent.

Agreed. The Order, for me, remains a confusing soup of almost identical looking female characters with unpronouncable names, multiple versions of virtually identical robots, random time skips and re-written histories that I simply couldn't follow.

I will concede that it probably reads better in one sitting, but read weekly, it made little coherent sense to me I'm afraid.

Some familiar names in the Scarlet Traces novel synopsis. Stickleback/Crusis/Traces crossover time for Edgverse!

"November 1898, four months after the Martians' failed invasion of the United Kingdom, leaving priceless technology scattered among London's ruins. As reconstruction begins, Germany sends men and resources to aid in the recovery; not entirely trusting Kaiser Wilhelm's goodwill, the Queen's spymaster sends his trusted agent Ampney Crucis to spy on the German workers.

"In the shadows of the city, mutilated bodies are turning up in the new slums. With so many still missing and so much still to be done, the case is all but overlooked, handed over to the police department's most junior detective, Valentine Bey. As Bey begins his investigations, he crosses paths with Crucis, and the two men discover a plot that could change the world.

Something survived the War of the Worlds; something that lives still under London. And there are many who would kill to get their hands on it..."

Can't find this anywhere in Leeds and it's sold out in the 2000 AD shop too.

Hope I haven't missed out. Anyone know of a way to get hold of one?

Both covers back in stock in the 2000AD online store!  :)

Woohoo! Thanks peeps. Just ordered the King Carlos cover.

I'd love to see some 2000 AD board games, rather than role playing games. Anything along those lines in the offing?

Got mine yesterday and, being a skinny boy these days, it makes me look like Demis Roussos.

I'll be donating it to my chunkier Squaxx pal.

Just had a massive and ill-advised Thrill Power freebase session last night (I'm disorientated but still functional) and caught up with the last 3 weeks worth of progs.

I'm REALLY enjoying it at the moment and it's great to see all new stories that I enjoy as much as the old favourites.

Judge Dredd is fantastic. Always nice to see Dredd leap through a window and kick some perp-arse. The art from TT is, of course, beautiful.

Hope: For the Future is right up my street and I can't recall a more perfect match of script, tone and art in the recent prog. This will make a lovely collected edition.

Kingmaker has Leigh Gallagher on art duties so automatically gets a pass, but the story and concept are superb too.

The Order remains, for me, a series of nicely painted pictures depicting a story that I'm not particularly invested in. It seems popular with other Squaxx though.

Kingdom always gives good thrill and there's a genuine sense of peril for Gene and his mates in this new story. Awesome stuff.

Four stone-cold classics and one damp squib.

If we're going down the fan-service route I would suggest that The Force Awakens is the bigger culprit. Han, Leia, a new sort of Deathstar, a young desert dweller being called by the Force, a cutesy droid, a new type of Empire!

You're absolutely right, but it also had great new characters, charm, wit and a sense of fun and adventure. All of these things were absent from Rogue One.

I have to say though, I did enjoy seeing Vader methodically murdering the rebels, and I didn't hate the film. I just found it pretty boring and a big missed opportunity.

So people actually liked the Vader scenes?

The groanworthy pun? The fact that he was desperately shoe-horned in, and served zero purpose in the story other than to upstage the bland actual villain of the movie? The way his hyperkinetic, over the top fight/massacre scene was jarringly in contrast to the lumbering space gangster figure we meet in the original movie?

Shoe-horned in?  I can't see how they could present the film without him - the film which follows directly afterwards starts in the middle of him chasing Princess Leia's corvette!

Only if you need the dots joined between this film and that in the most literal, on the nose way imaginable. Imo it is the (comically overly literal) ending of RotS all over again, except this time people are eating it up rather than ridiculing it.

Darth Vader has nothing to do with the events of this movie*, was reportedly not in John Knoll's original pitch for this movie, as evidenced in the original Star Wars doesn't give two shits about the Death Star and has very little to do with it specifically, and is only in this movie at all so Disney can get bums on seats and shift merch.

*Seriously. Try to describe his role and function in the plot of Rogue One and what would be lost, other than blatant fan service, if he wasn't in it.

Quotehundred times better than the force awakens...

I feel completely the opposite way - in fact, Rogue One felt so utterly flat and characterless to me that it's made me appreciate TFA a little more in retrospect for at least managing to have somewhat likable, memorable characters.

As usual, I find myself agreeing with Radiator. The most alarming aspect for me is that this empty, shallow fan service seems to be what "fans" want from a Star Wars film.

The Force Awakens was flawed, yes, but the interaction between the very memorable characters (the new ones, not the conspicuous oldies) had me repeatedly grinning to myself. Finn and Poe's TIE Fighter escape from the Star Destroyer had me internally punching the air because I already liked these people.

Rogue One's various, expressionless, brown-clothed cyphers left no impression whatsoever and I consequently couldn't have given less of a fuck about what happened to them.

But hey, AT-ATs!!!!!11!!!!! YAAAAH BRUH!!!1!!!1!!!

The Cam and wet Dredd ones look like they were knocked up at a laser printing shop and the Flint one has that embarrassing, gratuitous Japanese writing on it that seems to be favoured these days by the Superdry loving masses.

Add the price factor and I am out.

Get up and at 'em Pete.

I met you once at ThoughtBubble and you were hilarious and sarcastic. Absolutely love your art and hope you're feeling fighting fit soon.

I tried reading the first book of this series and ended up ditching it half way through, bored.

Too many cliches, too few ideas. It might translate better as live action and I'm tempted to give it a shot now it's on Netflix.
