I can't believe they've gone from Scarlet Traces and Rogue trooper reprints to Family which is a confused and boring mess. All the characters look and speak the same. I don't have any idea what's going on and don't care. This months Dredd was good though and I personally like young Middenface. Black Siddha has taken 6 months to do precisely nothing except contain some daft carry on style "humour". Bring back Lenny Zero.

Dan Abnett's a funny guy. VC's-fantastic. Atavar II-er..what's that about? Sinister Dexter-terrible,terrible bollocks. How many Dan Abnetts are there?

The Dredd story looks like a good @un, but I don't think Burns is the right artist. Serious painted illustrations always make Dredd look like a circus performer. You need a really stylised approach like McMahon, Flint or Jock to do the character justice.

General / in with the newbies

I was just wondering, being a new boy, if there is a large influx of newbie fans on this site? If so, why? Have a lot of people just started reading 2000ad? Maybe it's always like this and I'm making something out of nothing.Bring on the newbies I say.

generally: that's what i meant, kinda. I don't think there's any point tackling Dredds age just because he's meant to be getting on a bit, only if it serves to produce some new and excellent storylines. It's a bit like film characters going to the toilet? It doesn't advance the plot and ideas. except in carry on films, Austin Powers and certain underground German "art" films.

hands up who enjoys 2000ad for its gritty realism....oh, thats nobody then is it? I don't care if Dredd is pushing 70, as long as wagner can come up with decent storylines and ways to keep him on the streets, I'll be happy. Don't forget, it's a comic and wierd things are supposed to happen, that's kind of the point.

Oddboy: I'd recently bought the judge dredd mega history book on a whim after seeing it onsale in my local comic shop and was feeling all nostalgic and patriotic for 2000ad. Then I saw johnny alpha on the cover of prog 1300 and picked it up. It's been as good as I remember it except the story arcs seem to be over too quickly.

i personally started reading again after about 10 years. i picked up prog 1300 and was impressed by the quality of the stories, wagner still writing dredd and carlos still in the mix. I found the "jumping on point" useful at the time cos I could start reading a load of new stories, but I've now subscribed and find it annoying. I just remember when stories went on for 20 weeks or more and the writers could really get into the stories. one advantage is that sinister dexter stories only have to be endured for 6 or 7 episodes.

there must be a joke in "period avengers" but I can't be bothered thinking of it.
