I'm in awe of the muscle structure and the foreshortening on that Slaine. I'm particularly impressed with the underside of his arm and the way his fingers are interacting with the handle of the axe. I suspect if I'd drawn those fingers they'd be infinitely more sausage-like. :/

Can anyone recommend a decent book on anatomy and muscle structure? Or even any online resources? Years of doodling Dredd's oh-so sunny visage have left me ill-equipped to do anything other than mugshots. I should probably expand my repetoire a bit.

I used this one for quite a while (Wayne Reynolds swore by it, and he's pretty bloody good  :) )

The atlas of foreshortening is useful for, um, foreshortening;

The Virtual Pose series is pretty useful, not least because it comes with a disc full of QT templates that let you spin the pose round at your whim.

Thanks Nightbook glad you liked it! As for books id recommend Drawing the clothed figure by Barbara Bradley - sounds strange i know but holds a wealth of knowledge on figure drawing. For dynamic poses and foreshortening id recommend Force by Michael Mattesi. I look in these books all the time and always learn something new. If you want a book on muscles I think the best thing to do is get a muscle mag and anatomy diagram. Its what i do and you do get funny looks from the newsagent, but if its what you want to draw i think its the best way.

So, I've got this new drawing board, right?

Figured I'd have a go at doing something 'a bit different', so I've put this together over a few evenings:

For the benefit of anyone looking at it and going 'Uh? What's that?', it's Kenshiro, the lead from the anime show 'Fist Of The North Star'. I've been watching it recently, as I acquired the whole thing on DVD - and IT IS GLORIOUS!

It's also EXTREMELY violent.

Hey Rorschach, thanks dude. I should point out though that these images didn't take 10 minutes, but the original pencil drawings did. I do workl quickly but don't time myself on the inks/tones.

Markchilly that cityscape is mind-meltingly good, and a cracking Kenshiro HDE  :)

I'm looking forward to seeing this. When's it available?

CrazyFoxMachine

As of next week I think - depending on printers and that. Keep your eyes on Professor Elemental.com - http://www.professorelemental.com/fr_home.cfm still beavering away on the final page - there'll be no sleep for me tonight again I think!

Now CFM, you know very well sleep is for suckers  ;)

Cheers, Foxy!

Somebody elsewhere mentioned they thought it could do with a little extra rendering, and I'll admit I think there's some truth to that. I may tweak this some more when I get five minutes.

Also: hands. They are much harder to draw than you would think. At least, they are if you're me.  :-\

Since moving to Japan VanDom, writer of Vanguard http://www.facebook.com/vandomonium has fallen in love with the place. So much so that in the next  issue he wanted a set of postcard matching Vanguard's characters with some deeply loved landmarks of Japan.

Here's Duncan with Hichako proving his faithfulness. Though his methods may differ quite a bit. This is by myself. And thanks to Dom I learnt a lot over the weekend.
