Thought I'd start a new thread for this as I just found quite an obscure Moebius "Young Blueberry" comic for €9 in Madeira's only comic shop!
Also I once got a bundle of random 2000ads for cheap on eBay that contained rare prog 1208. Much wow.
Those are literally the only two jammy events that have happened to me ever. But has anyone else got charity shop/obscure jammy finds stories?
Spain, San Sebastian, Bilbao and Eibar, girlfriend at the time stayed there and she indulged me in going around all the toy shops in the region looking for vintage toys we, collectibles. This was ten- fifteen years ago. The first shop we went in was huge and smelled of old, damp-ish cardboard, after a little wander around I discovered the source of the smell was that stuff that hadn't sold in the 80's was still taking up shelf space, subsequently I came home with Gen 2 Transformers, ESB Star Wars figures, holy frail bootleg 'Airgam - Super Fantastics' figures, Skeletor sword, all sorts of stuff. It was the same in all the shops I visited. All at 80's prices.
That bastard Cosh will be along shortly to explain how he ripped off an Oxfam shop of a full run of Scream.
No Im not mad jelly :-\
I bought an album from a charity shop because it had Brian May on it, it turned out to be a really rare pre Queen album.
Another time went into a charity shop and they had all the Iron Maiden albums like new for £1 each. And another where they had lots of Burzum and Death Cds for £2 each.
I thought we were going to get to show off our PJ's here. Drat.

Copy of Wheel in Space Target novelisation. 50p in a library sale - £35 on ebay.
The Works is always good for GN's.
On Saturday I picked up
Starwars The Old Republic vol 2
Starwars The Force Unleashed 2
The Rat Pack (Battle)
Less than £10.

A bee-you-tee-full Henry Flint Nemesis The Warlock sketch on EBay for a tenner last year.
Nothing will ever beat; an original Kenner early 80's Boba Fett figure in my local corner shop for 50p in 1995.
Foolishly, I opened it. :'(

From a branch The Works that was closing I got The Art of Osamu Tezuka (http://www.abramsbooks.com/Books/The_Art_of_Osamu_Tezuka-9780810982499.html) for €4. Crazy!
Many years ago I got the slip-cased BWS Storyteller with 1-9 included for I think £5 in a comics shop that was closing. I'd love to see him take a crack at Sláine.
Many moons ago on the outskirts of Port Stanley, near the runway where the Pucaras were shown blown up, a group of us were pissing about, as you do!
Anyway, one of the lads picks something up and shouts out that he's just found 10 pence, we ignored him. He then says it again and then again. We all tell him in fruity language that he's not telling the truth. This goes on until he shows us a handful of coins and sand. We obviously start digging and using our Search techniques, we find about £160. Luckily there were four of us digging, so we shared it out equally.
We took it back to our accommodation, Coastel 3, which you may have heard of every now and again. It's a massive floating complex that can house a lot of people. It pops up on the news when they mention putting prisoners into it but it's inhumane, or something like that ;)
Anyway, we took the rusty money back to our rooms, bought some Coke, filled the sink and cleaned it up. It helped pay for many weeks of drink and snacks.
We all decided that someone must've robbed a fruit machine and realised that they wouldn't get that much change off the islands, so burried it for a future visit. Once we decided this must be what happened we took a small metallic tin back to the area and burried it with a note that said something like, cheers easy!

In a Sorrento restaurant, the owner was trying to flog us lemonchello (as they do).
They also sold Glenlivet. 10 year old whisky for £8 was fine, but they also had 30 year old at the same price. I bought four of them, for £32 (and free lemonchello). My saving was about £400.

Visited the Prince August Factory shop in Macroom, Co. Cork in about 1999. They had just lost the LotR miniatures licence as the first Jackson movie was coming out and the big boys were snapping up the merchandising rights - the place was in a bit of a mess as they handled the changeover to chess sets and statues (as opposed to gaming minis), but there were some nice metal minis to be had on the cheap - and a large table of cardboard Part Boxes. These contained leftover loose stuff that they had, elven arms holding bows, half-orcs (geddit), oars for Smeagol's boat, Isengard shields, the Horn of Gondor, that sort of thing, all at 5p a throw. The not-yet-missus and I were happily picking through this reporting our findings of cats and tankards, when we began to notice dragon parts. Soem feverish searching later we had assembled sufficient parts for three complete (different) dragons. Maybe 8 or 10 parts each, so a grand total of £1.50 the lot (including Smeagol, Deagol and boat). Combined Buy-it-Now price on eBay currently: STG£90.00. :D
Here's one of my 50p dragons (not my photo):
(http://pmcdn.priceminister.com/photo/Mb358-Prince-August---Coffret-Scatha-The-Worm---Mithril-Collection---Les-Dragons-Des-Terres-Du-Milieu-Figurine-834745139_ML.jpg)
In the mid nineties a second hand bookshop in Great Yarmouth had a huge collection of 2000ad Titan albums come in. They were selling them all for about £1.50 each. The collection included most of the Dredd ones up to the late 20s (I think), Robo Hunter, lots of Nemesis and all of Zenith.
Unfortunately I didn't have any money to buy them. I went back a week or so later and picked up some good stuff but the cream of the crop had gone.
I got the entire Lone Wolf and Cub collection from eBay for £50 about a decade ago, the original Dark Horse reprints. They are mint.
I had bought the first three for £12 each from FP, as I had intended to collect them anyway. So in one fell swoop I saved myself upwards of £200.

That bastard Cosh will be along shortly to explain how he ripped off an Oxfam shop of a full run of Scream.
Did somebody say charity shop finds? Two or three years ago, my local Oxfam book and record had a fairly typical UK comic collection dumped on them: Prog 300 - date and a bunch of other stuff. These guys know there way around a pile of prog rock LPs but didn't have much of a clue what to with this. I was still trying to fill a few gaps in my collection at the time so I was happy to spend an hour or so rummaging through musty boxes.
In the end, I came away with a full run of Scream (including the specials), Prog 1208 and half a dozen other assorted Megs and Progs. I can't remember the exact price but, after applying the 3 for 2 offer and making a mess of counting how many issues I had, the guy definitely gave me change from a fiver!
I feel I should point out that, to pay my good fortune forward, I sent half the Megs to Grant and gave prog 1208 to Satanist. All for no charge. The Screams did fetch well over 100 quid on eBay though...

Which you then kindly donated to charity!
I bought my Screams for 50p each from Paradise Alley in London in the early 1990s. When I sold them on ebay somebody bid them all up to £20 each!!! Surely that has to be the highest price ever for set of Screams. I still 2 of the specials.
HeroQuest, Advanced HeroQuest and 3 add ons from local charity shop for the princely sum of £20! Bargain considering getting the same stuff off Ebay could run to well over £100 easily.
At the weekend my boy clocked a smashing Ninjago set on sale in Asda for £7 which he has since built, its £30 in Lego shop.
Hes well chuffed.
I found a Titan Zenith in a Moffat oxfam shop for 50p which i paid, the guilt overtook me and i gave it to Perstonpandamonium to auction off, it raised about 40 quid so my guilt was soothed...

This very lunchtime I was in the huge secondhand bookshop in Gundeli when I chanced upon the '82 and '83 Sci-Fi Specials for the princely sum of one Frank (about 70p.) Both are in damned fine condition for their age. I fear this stroke of luck may set me on the pointless path of collecting any others which I don't have.
They were sitting on top of a pile of Dr Who annuals and Weeklys of a similar vintage. A quick flick turned up what looked like a Dave Gibbons illustrated Tom Baker story. Would that be right?

Barring a very small number of fill-ins (including the incredibly wonderful Junkyard Demon (http://tuggingyourcoat.com/2011/11/13/vworp-vworp/) by McMahon), Gibbons drew the lead strip in Dr Who Weekly/Monthly for the whole of Tom Baker's tenure, and into the Peter Davison years.
So, yeah, basically that sounds about right.

The Wagner/Grant/Gibbons stuff was a really big deal when I were a lad -- the Weekly was a close competitor to the prog. The stories had a very genuine feel of being what the TV series could be if budget was no limit.
Fantastic comics. I've re-read a bunch recently and I think they stand up remarkably well.

I'ved ahd a few 50p finds translating into £100 ebay profit, but always felt dirty afterwards... The Barbarian Heroquest expansion, the 1970 Dr Who annual (something about it having a pink spine or such meant it went for a lot more than we thought it would!)... I have a hardback Arkham house "The Horror in the Museum" that I got for 50p that I imagine might go for more - but carboots have been kind of ruined by sad middle aged profiteers with no real interest in teh stuff they get - used to be a gentleman's pursuit donchaknow?

Interesting. I had piles of the old Dr Who novelisations but have no memory of ever seeing a comic. I might try a collection then, rather than hoping to piece together a whole story from the odd issues lying in that shop.
Also, nice jam, Jimjam.

... on the other hand, I have no such qualms. Some eBay research required.
I recently visited my Nan's and went throught her attic looking at all the boxes I stuck up there over 20 years ago. It surprised me the amount of good stuff there was! e.g.
Diceman issue 2
JD Megazine 1-20ish
Manga Mania 1-10
Toxic 1-10
Loads of 2000ad annuals, specials and yearbooks
Strip 1-?
Some bBritish Alien collection issues 1-3 (collecting DH stuff?)
Marshall Law comic of some description eps 1-?
And my favourite piece Lobo's Back 1-4 stored in the original cardboard mini standee.
There was lots more but that was all I can remember at present. There will be some happy reading there!

Picked up Usagi Yojimbo Vol1 and Grant Morrison's The Filth in a charity shop. £8 for the pair. The person at the counter eyed me suspiciously and asked if I'd read The Filth before, I said no, but I've enjoyed a lot of his work in the past. They nodded sagely and replied "Good because that book is VERY Grant Morrison." Looking forward to getting stuck in.
Been looking for a HB copy of Aliens by Alan Dean Foster for some time (to go my HB copies of Alien, and Alien3), but pretty much everywhere that was selling decent copies was asking for around £50/60+, if not more, so I had kinda put getting a copy very much on the back burner.
To cut a long story short, a copy I was watching on eBay, suddenly got re-listed at a lower price of £4.68, and came with free postage. A saving of around £50 from its previous price.
And It plonked through my letterbox today, and its pretty much near mint.
A mistake listing by the book sellers?

A few months back, a friend who runs a curiosity shop in the local town centre asked me if I'd be interested in an item of Disney memorabilia for my wife (she's a Disney loon)
It was an old airplane with Mickey Mouse as the pilot, and he had purchased it in a house clearance sale - he knew it was worth a little bit and offered it to us for £300. Didn't have the money so declined....however I did send some details to someone with regards to valuing it and he came back and said that it could be worth a bit more than that and that he should get it valued properly. So I passed on the information to my mate.
Found out the other day that he did get it valued....at ~£1,000. He bought it for £50. He bought me a few pints to say thanks.
Jammy bastid.

I have a couple of WOWs,
due to be in asia, mainly.......
the expat schools sometimes have car boot/table top sales, at one I secured a full set of Annuals, Dredd and 2000ad for wheel barrow of money in local currency which translated into about 10 sterling.
also found a judge dredd 12 inch action man style figure, the stallone version for about 8 sterling, though i acknowledge it was over priced :)
On a long drive I stopped off at a petrol station beside which is an antiques shop. I found a pile of original Eagle comics in nice condition for 2 euro each.

Well chuffed with a Swamp Thing action figure I won on the Ebay, and received in the post today. The photo's on the page didn't do the item justice and I bought it on a whim for about £8 including postage. And it's absolutely gorgeous. Stands nearly 10" tall, is stunningly detailed, and is coated in this moulded rubbery substance that covers the whole figure including all the joints. It's absolutely amazing. Never seen one before, and don't know any details about it, so don't know how much of a jammy find it is. Just may be my best ever eBay purchase.

AUD. Quite possibly half that much in

Lost it for nearly a full fort night when I found that it wasn't in it's cradle. Large & heavy in my hands, it's worth is more than the money I played for it and the symbolism of having the mechanism that opens the secret back door to their mountain kingdom & it's vast treasure.
I found that it had just fallen on the floor between the narrow space of this computer desk (Where I'm sitting right now!) and the set of draws that I keep the left speaker and woofer on.
