Title: Free Comic Book Day 2019
Post by: sheridan on 21 December, 2018, 12:02:29 AM
2000AD won't be doing a Free Comic Book Day comic next year (as I remember the official rules seemed to be an attempt to stop quality comics being published this year and last year).

All is not lost, however, as we'll be getting a 99p or 99c comic instead, featuring the villains of 2000AD!

Bleeding Cool (https://www.bleedingcool.com/2018/12/20/2000ad-will-cheat-free-comic-book-day-2019-with-villains-takeover-99-cent-special/) had a rather misleading title, but also has a cover preview and a list of contents.

* Judge Death: The Judge Who Laughs by Rob Williams and Henrik Sahlstrom
* Lord Weird Slough Feg: Lord of the Hunt by Pat Mills and Kyle Hotz
* Brass and Bland: The Professionals by Karl Stock and Kael Ngu
* Stix: Sleeping Dogs Lie by Matt Smith and Chris Weston
* Terror Tale: Last of the Hellphibians by Henry Flint

(is that the first time Karl Stock has written a story for the Galaxy's Greatest, rather than an article?)

While there's no 2000AD FCBD this year, there will be Treasury of British Comics presents Funny Pages, making use of recent acquisitions by Rebellion, such as Sweeney Toddler.

A Stix tale, eh?  Interesting development.

I do wonder what FCBD's beef is with 2000ad. Still we all gain as this mean no need to rush to the shop and hopefully I can order this since its chargable. I wonder how shows will handle it?

Looks great too!

Best theory I've heard is that Rebellion shows up the larger companies who are content to reprint portions of their ongoing titles which you then have to buy to get the end of the story (or a few pages from an upcoming comic).  There are some very honourable exceptions, but some of the stuff I've picked up on FCBD has been pitiful.

Karl may not have written any strip before for TMO, but he's written a few for FQP, including three Judge Dredd strips for Zarjaz (Z18, Z20 & Z26) Nice to see him getting a chance to flex his mental muscles again and a Matt Smith helmed Stix tale sounds suitably Zarjaz!

Fingers crossed I can make it next year, missed the last years event and, shockingly, have yet to read the FCBD prog! It's been a crazy old year so must get around to that...

It's hard to see an anti-Rebellion conspiracy at work here when there's a Treasury of British Comics FCBD issue this year.

Quite. And the cheap 2000AD comic is a smart move. I hope those are readily available.

I refer you to my earlier comment about Rebellion showing up other publishers by usually presenting all-new content versus their selections of reprint and promo pages from forthcoming comics.  The Treasure FCBD comic you mention is advertised as reprint material.

Useful links for fans of Rebellion:

2019 specials bundle (including Villains special): https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/B0011
^ All six of the new specials, for 20 quid, including postage

2000 AD Villains special: https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/SPE1902
^ 99p + £1.67 postage = £2.66

Funny Pages via A Place In Space: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362641131666
^ Only five left at the time of writing. 99p + 95p postage. APIS also has a slew of other FCBD stuff available for the same price. Postage drops sharply to 25p per item once you grab more than one.

FWIW, I've bought FCBD from APIS for a few years now. The packaging they use is probably best described as bulletproof. To date, the service has been unfailingly excellent.

....the same guy now has another copy up for a tenner. I don't know why, but this bugs the hell out of me. Like, out of all proportion!  >:(

Diamond shipped this week --ie a week late-- to Stevie's  LCS.

So if you are outside the UK & missed a copy it might be worth making a return visit to your LCS.
