Help! / I'll Name That Tune In...
09 August, 2007, 07:49:56 PM
I'm hoping someone here will recognise this tiny bit of music. I know it from somewhere, but I can't bloody place it. It's taken from a Led Zeppelin soundcheck in 1973 (just before they start jamming Shaking All Over) and is only 8 seconds long, but I think it'd be enough for anyone to realise what it is if they know it. If you recognise this or at least have an idea, *please* can you let me know, as it's starting to do my nut in.

Cheers. :)

Events / British comics exhibition in Hartlepool
22 June, 2007, 06:46:04 PM
Albeit a quite small exhibition, old British comics are getting a bit of publicity here in the North East. The stuff on show is from former Beano and Dandy artist Keith Robson's own collection and also some of his original artwork.

It's opens at the Museum of Hartlepool tomorrow and runs till 2nd September and is free entry.

With Termight Replicas getting better and better with each new piece they release and their veering away from solely 2000ad merchandise, what comic-related replicas would you love them to make, if they could? I realise that due to ownership and copyright hell, most will probably be impossible, but it'd be nice to build up a wish list nonetheless. :)

I'll start the ball rolling with:

Well it's got to be a massive improvement on the last one (although that may not exactly be difficult).

Off Topic / Metal genres explained
17 March, 2007, 08:17:42 PM
For those confused about the different types of metal on the music scene and how they all differ, this explains all...

Thrash Metal
The protagonist arrives, fights the dragon, saves the princess and fucks her.

Heavy Metal
The protagonist arrives on a Harley, kills the dragon, drinks a few beers and fucks the princess.

Speed Metal
Suddenly there, short solo, dragon is confused, someone's screaming weird stuff, princess realises she's been deflowered, dragon and princess are still looking for the one who did this.

Folk Metal
The protagonist arrives with some friends playing accordions, violins, flutes and many more weird instruments. The dragon falls asleep (because of all the dancing), then they all leave... without the princess.

Viking Metal
The protagonist arrives in a ship, kills the dragon with his mighty axe, skins the dragon and eats it, rapes the princess to death, steals her belongings and burns the castle down before leaving.

Grindcore
The protagonist arrives, screams something completely indecipherable for about 30 seconds and then leaves.

Film & TV / My Name is Modesty
24 February, 2007, 08:30:12 PM
For those interested, this made-to-keep-the-rights version from 2003 is on BBC2 at 12.55 tonight. Although I'm a massive fan of the Modesty Blaise comics and novels, I'll be watching this out of morbid curiosity than anything else.

Links / Meez!
05 January, 2007, 03:06:47 PM
There seems to be a glut of design-a-cartoon-you sites popping up online, but this one's rather good. There are 'premium' items that you have to actually pay for to save to your account, but you can get around this with some simple screen-capturing.

Here are ones of me and Malchi (albeit with slight Photoshop cheatery). ;)

Games / Diabolik!
14 December, 2006, 10:01:38 PM
The creation of the Giussani sisters has been made into a stealth/adventure game that, at the moment, is slated for  release next March.

From this trailer, it look's like it'll definitely be going on my shopping list. :)

Off Topic / Tech help needed. Crashing PC.
19 November, 2006, 02:12:44 PM
Rather than trawling through hundreds of forums via Google, I thought I'd ask here first. :)

My PC's crashing like a bastard to a blank screen (monitor shows "No input signal" like it does when it's off) but with all of the drive lights flashing every time I insert any disc into either of my DVD drives. The only way I can get it to reboot is by switching it off then back on at the PSU, and even then it sometimes just does the same thing or turn off altogether, prompting me to switch it off and on again until it manages to actually boot up. The computer's also sparodically resetting/turning off when I'm not even anywhere near it.

My educated guesswork makes me think that it's a hardware problem with either the PSU or motherboard, but I'm really clutching at straws here. Anyone with more knowhow than me make any suggestions?

All help(#) will be greatly appreciated. :)

Cheers.

Just read this on our local news website. What a bunch of fucking cunts. I think it wouldn't hurt for us to keep a bit of an eye out for any suspicious collections of stuff suddenly being on the market.

Off Topic / Great things about the 1980s
07 June, 2006, 04:37:36 AM
The 80s get a lot of stick for being crap for various reasons, but so far, it's my favourite decade that I've lived in. A *lot* of great things were around in the 80s and I thought I'd start a thread where, if they wanted to, people could post links, pics, admissions of embarrassing fashions worn etc... or everone could ignore it and I'll just cry for a few days. ;)

I'll start off with this link to a *fantastic* live version of a song I've always liked, performed on the much missed Old Grey Whistle Test.

Website and Forum / New Wallpapers
30 May, 2006, 06:55:57 PM
I've just sent Wake some wallpapers that I've cobbled together that should hopefully be up on the site soon. I'll be adding to the Dredd ones as the Casefiles books come out and may well add other characters in the same style later on. Hope you like.

Cheers.
