I just Read the last issue of Dredd Megazine 397
(this id due to the fact -  I unsubscribed this month - after being a subscriber since 2012 )
It was just okay , but reminded me , that I am better to save money , and keep subscribing to the 2000ad weekly Comic than bother with the Megazine - as its been pretty dull for a while , with only Lawless being that great - sad , but true .

JUDGE DREDD: THIS CORROSION by Michael Carroll (w) John Higgins (a) Sally Hurst (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)
THE RETURNERS: IRMAZHINA by Si Spencer  (w) Nicolo Assirelli (a) Eva De La Cruz (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)
CHOPPER: WANDERING SOUL by David Baillie (w) Brendan McCarthy (a) Len O'Grady, Brendan McCarthy (c) Ellie De Ville (l)
DEVLIN WAUGH: KISS OF DEATH by Rory McConville (w) Mike Dowling (a) Simon Bowland (l)
TALES FROM THE BLACK MUSEUM: PROPHET OF STOMM by David Baillie (w) Steven Austin (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)
Features: 2000 AD Sci-Special creators, Nicolo Assirelli interview, Michael Fleisher obituary, Halo Jones

Bagged reprint:
LOFTY'S ONE-MAN LUTWAFFE by by John Wagner, Pat Mills (w) Charles Herring, Paolo Ongaro (a)

Tweaked the Title to match the Tagline.

Thought that was another great Meg.

Dredd vs Razorjack continues to be hardcore action of the beautiful calibur. Devlin Waugh has a nicely teasing first part blown apart by the last panel. Chopper continues as you'd expect... or not expect given its McCarthy and man if there is a visually more compelling story out there I look forward to reading it. A solid Tales of the Black Museum also.

But its Returners that continues to be the biggest delight. Man I wasn't particularly expecting this to be as good as it is and another smackin' ending setting its ending up nicely one suspects.

Good text features and Lofty still to go this is a very good comic.

Enjoyed the Meg

Dredd vas Razorjack - action packed from end to beginning and great art from Higgins

My sentiment as well great story

Chopper - the story is now getting some steam with some real psychedelic art from McCarthy

Lofty - never read this but reads like a typical 70s 80s strip. 3 page stories with the one-dimensional characterization of the enemy. Now do not get me wrong I enjoyed this. A lot of the newer writers can learn from these old foxes on how to write a story with a very limit page count.

Just a quickie to say I've read Lofty's One-man Lutwaffe  and it was immense fun. Glad it didn't over stay its welcome as it would have felt stretched if it'd carried on too much more BUT by heck it was fun while it was there.

I'm going with good timing. #PraiseBeToTharg

Actually Devlin was rather good this month. We're edging towards the next collected edition, which can't  be a bad thing.

Can I also give a shout out for the summer special article? Yes? Great!

Plus the Returners has a nice Japanese horror twisted head thing going on.

You can normally tell when the Meg or prog are getting it right as the review threads are short!

That's something I learnt in a book club - it was only when opinion was divided that we really got a good discussion going - if everybody liked the books we just got a table full of people saying "I liked that".

True. The Meg has been routinely excellent for several years now, to the extent that I fear we might be rather taking it for granted. I know that I certainly don't express my appreciation of its quality nearly often enough. Excluding a couple of quality spikes like 'America' and 'Swimming In Blood', I think it's as good as it's ever been. That Matt manages put this out alongside feeding content to the ravenous beast that is 2000AD is quite an accomplishment.

Yes, the meg is one of the most underrated publications. It is well worth your time and money and have such quality stories and each month comes with an added publication.

I think many people see the meg as just a supplement to 2000 AD and not something that stands on its own. They are really missing big time here.

Agree with all of the below. I didn't get back on board with the Meg until I went semi-digital over 3 years ago now and got a Digital sub. For quite sometime before folks seemed to suggest it had been struggling quality wise. Have to say since I subbed at least it's been as good, if not better, than the Prog.

This is furthered by the floppies being really interesting particularly since the purchase of the archive.
