Did any current monthly subscribers get the info stating that the Autumn promotion to encourage new subscribers ( Like the current Future Shocks book) is currently a secret but it will eventually be offered to all current subscribers as normal? i.e. all promotions are eventually offered to ongoing subscribers. If so have I missed something as I would love to get my hands on the future shocks book but so far I haven't received any info about how to buy it.

In fact I've subscribed for years and I think the last freebie I got was the Rogue Trooper t-shirt ( available in XXL only).

Help! / Name of Channel Four Show
08 November, 2011, 10:06:33 PM
Can anyone help.

I'm trying to remember the name of a show which used to be on Channel Four(I think) in the late eighties early nineties(I think). It featured people dressed up like giant rodents/gerbils/critters and they wore kind of cod hill-billy clothes. I seem to recall a lizard of some kind being their enemy. I think it was on at tea time. I think it was english but they put on american accents. I seem to think that there was a Mum and Dad plus two kids and a baby. They lived in a tree/underground.

I hated it but now it feels like a bad fever dream as I can't recall anything it properly.

Suggestions / Digital Copies for Subscribers
12 July, 2011, 01:18:22 PM
With the new site design it appears to me that ol Tharg is starting to push the digital comics more.

Do we think we will ever see the time that subscribers will see a pin linked to their own account which will allow them to download a digital copy?

I've been a subscriber for years. I have a room full of comics but I've found myself enjoying reading digital comics on my ipad more and more.

I'm reluctant to buy the same comic twice but I'd love to sample twoth on my ipad.

Geeky topic I know but if you were Lucas how would you have written the prequels? Minor tweaks or major rewrite?

General / Question for Jim re The Inspectre
24 June, 2010, 12:02:16 PM
Hi Jim

Hope this isn't too annoying but I reread The Inspectre after you brought it up the other day and I think it holds up quite well.

I would have been interested to see where it went. I think it could have done with some humour here and there and I think the daft Judge could have almost become a Wulf lighter type character contrasting with The Inspectre's mean and moody demeanour.

The first thing which occurred to me to ask about was Viktor's assassination plot on Kazan. Following this Kazan launched the missiles and the Apocalypse war began.

Was this event occurring as the same time as the Diktariot launched their missiles?

Kazan then presumably went in the speed heal to get the eyes healed and into his "bionic" shades before he was back in his satellite head quarters as seen in his first appearance in the Apocalypse War.

Basically it would be great if you had any info on the Inspectre you could share as I always find strip proposals/ series bibles etc fascinating.

Creative Common / PHOTOSHOP HELP
28 May, 2010, 11:15:11 AM
Just wondered if anyone can recommend a good online resource for photoshop tutorials.

I have a very old copy and I've dabbled with it but I just don't get how to use it.

For example the whole layer thing completely confuses me.

Also I have no idea where to start when it comes to colouring black and white art.

How do you select the correct area without going over the lines.

I just don't understand.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

General / Strontium Dog Question Final Solution
17 May, 2010, 09:51:33 AM
Quick question. If I recall correctly in the Final Solution Charn-El is one of the Sorcerer's of Lyra and the bones of Malak Brood are used.

Is Malak Brood one of the sorcerers or is the Final Solution the first time we see them?

General / James Robinson and 2000ad
20 March, 2010, 09:33:39 PM
I am currently in a big old reread of the fantastic James Robinson comic Starman.

I haven't read it in years and its even better than I remember (a lot better than Cry for Justice too).

Anyway the news site Newsarama have started a feature where you can ask comic creators any questions and they'll try to get a reply.

My question was for James Robinson and it was amongst the first batch to get a reply.

Questions for James Robinson

-During his time on Starman he talked about sharing Jack Knight's interest in vintage collectibles and memorabilia. Is James still a collector?

We asked James Robinson, the writer on Superman: Last Stand of New Krypton, Adventure Comics, Superman and Justice League of America.

Robinson: "I still collect some comics and Alex Toth artwork, but I've managed to get most of my collecting in check over the years. However, I still get the bug from time to time and recently bought some really beautiful paint-by-numbers paintings."

- Also he seemed to avoid the "2000AD" route of starting in comics. Did he ever pitch anything to "2000AD" and if not, which "2000AD" character would he have liked to have written?

Robinson: Yeah, unfortunately I went to the U.S. at about the time I started comic writing. If I'd done 2000AD, I'd have loved to write Rogue Trooper.

I would love to have seen what he did with Rogue as after Dredd he is my favourite 2000ad character and at the time he was starting out Rogue was struggling as Fr1day.

News / Rebellion Cuts Staff Rumour
10 March, 2010, 02:36:25 PM
Care of Edge

"Rebellion is said to have axed 20 staff from its Oxford headquarters, while the company appears resigned to closing its Derby studio.

That's according to a Develop source, although Rebellion has yet to confirm the details of the report.

Rebellion Oxford was most recently responsible for Sega's chart-topping Aliens Vs Predator, which became the UK's fastest-selling game of 2010 following its release in February.

Acquired from SCi in 2006, the company's Derby facility - which was the original Tomb Raider developer, previously known as Core Design -  was the studio behind Rogue Warrior and Shellshock 2.

"Strategically we have decided to review the need for the Derby facilities, and consultation with staff at Derby is ongoing," Rebellion boss Jason Kingsley said in January. Last month he added that the future of the studio was still in doubt as he had been unable to find a buyer.

We've contacted Rebellion for comment regarding this latest report".

I hope its not true but if it is I hope they come through the other side still committed to 2000ad as they have been one of the best things ever to happen to the mag.

Prog / Prog 1672 Blood Sisters
13 February, 2010, 10:35:56 AM
Just got mine and I'm afraid I'm so far behind on my reading that I couldn't comment on moist of the stories but the Judge Dredd story Lust in the Dust has a slight flaw..the woman isn't all that.  You'll see what I mean. Perhaps it would have worked better if we never saw her face.

Help! / IT Problem
15 December, 2009, 10:59:07 PM
Just wondering if anyone who is IT literate could suggest a possible solution to the following PC problem.

On start up XP the screen goes a funny colour and the text is blurred.

If you then turn it off and then back on again it appears to load fine.

The computer then has started to crash when I open an internet page and the screen goes completely black.

Other times when the above process of restarting is repeated various messages regarding Outlook express and Acrobat not working have popped up.

Finally applications have started to run really slowly and I have to close each to look at one at a time.

This seems to be getting progressively worse.

I haven't done anything different to the machine and security essentials haven't detected any virus.

Off Topic / IPOD HELP NOT INVOLVING CHEESE
24 November, 2009, 02:56:48 PM
I almost hesitated posting this here after the last debacle involving Ipods but I'll take all help with a pinch of salt.

I'm trying to free up space on my hard drive and I have about 27GB of songs on my Ipod.

Is there any way to delete the songs from my computer once they're on the Ipod but then make sure they aren't deleted next time I update my Ipod?

Website and Forum / The time on the board
26 October, 2009, 01:08:17 PM
This might be a silly question but as far as I can see the time on the site clock is wrong.

Should I log out and back in again?

As I mentioned in the Prog 1549 thread I felt that the placement of the last couple of panels should be swapped for the sake of the story.

Obviously this is me being VERY petty as the strip is fantastic but there was just something about ending the page on the robot lawyer instead of Dredd that didn't read right to me. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION.

I've crudely amended it using paint.

Tell me if you agree or disagree, obviously only if you've read it and don't mind spoilers.

Oh yes and if anyone from Rebellion is bugged by this please take this post down. I won't be offended.

Off Topic / Thank You!

This is a silly thing to say but it just occurred to me how much I like this forum and how much I like you all.*

I don't really know who you are but most days I pop on the board, read what's on your mind, and the majority of the time am entertained.

I don't want to name any names because I think everyone brings something interesting to the message board. The hive just makes me smile for example I've had some shitty news recently but the whole Thryllseeker Tordelback Slaine pact cheered me up.

I've got to say continuity minutiae and timelines are threads I really enjoy but there's always something to enjoy. I often skim the review thread's cos its all subjective (objective?) But take more care to read when I've either really liked a strip or disliked one as I'm interested in hearing what the board has to say.

Anyway heres to the board. And YOU! Yes YOU!

* Except Richard Cairns. He's someone I still remember as seeming slightly....horrible.

Help! / Marvel UK Incredible Hulk Question
07 August, 2009, 11:16:35 AM
Hi there

Just wondered if anyone remembers the Incredible Hulk comic from Marvel UK from 1982.

I've been searching for it on the Comic Book Database and can't find it.

I can find the first couple of Hulk weekly's etc but it must have relaunched as I have an issue no 1 from 1982.

It featured The Incredible Sulk by Lew Stringer and also loads of those Roar adverts by Steve Dillon.

I believe it also had a poster by Brian Bolland which had previously been used as the first cover for the previous series.

Any help from tjose who recall it and also why it doesn't seem to be mentioned with the other Marvel UK Hulk publications.
