Film & TV / Re: Doctor Who (13th Doctor)

Is there any possibility that the new Doctor is in fact the Tardis itself, which is traditionally shown to have a female personality and she has simply transferred herself into the doctor's new regeneration?  Just a wild guess of mine!

I have just unsubscribed from collection having still received nothing after they messed up my address.  I'm not hanging about for the first package when new volumes are coming into the shops.

Are others still having problems and do problems get sorted at all?

Prog / Re: Prog 2053 - Leap of Wraith!

After hearing all the negativity I was surprised to find myself enjoy the strip more than I expected; I think the presence of the aliens gave MC-1 a sense of a cosmopolitan-galactic city which I haven't felt in recent times.

But the plot was just a bit 'meh' as they are these days overall, and I reckon that is what has annoyed the Squaxx, the standard of Dredd stories has really slipped and now the standard of the art looks like it could be in freefall too and that would be the last straw for a lot of readers.

As a fan of Slaine I already feel taken for granted the way the plot is stretched to catwalk levels of unhealthy thinness, but Absalom and Indigo Prime show that the more mature and sophisticated strips work best nowadays, after all we are a more mature and sophisticated audience these days!!! :)

Prog / Re: Prog 2051 - Twenty-Second Century Icon

Ok,my turn as a returnee since prog 2000, but the bug has bitten so what can you do?

JUDGE DREDD- But it feels more like Im reading Constable Dredd or Dredd of Dock Green these days! He just doesn't have that superior human presence I use to love about him, the force of nature that defended HIS city. And this story is just another version of the Sons Of Booth, realtering a droids programme for propaganda purposes.

SLAINE-either Pat Mills is out of Awen or he keeps his best ideas for the French market! But Simon Davis is firing on all cylinders, every panel is lush and beautiful, but when you put them all together they feel a bit flat and slow. I would love to see Davis get a huge challange as he can paint BIG, like a  journey in the Underworld or the Egyptian gods! And Ukko, where are you when your prog needs you???

INDIGO PRIME-I don't know anything about this at all but this is some of the most brilliant comic art I have ever seen! Burroughs room is full of perfect detail and the character's are so well realized, so much work gone into this. Sorry that John Smith has gone amidst controversy but hopefully Kek-W can keep it on the rails, I am hooked. I appreciate too a more adult story in the mix as well as some can be a little too juvenile.

GREY AREA-not for me but I can see why others like it.

SINISTERDEXTER-I can't understand why this exists at all, at all.

That's my tuppence worth this week, all the best.

If we are going by the spines, then shouldn't we be losing the bottom half of the lowest panels on each page!!! :D

Hi Folks, I am wondering if anyone else is in this position............
I subscribed to the test run and the 4 free GNs were sent to me.
Early this month I got an e-mail from Hachette telling me the series was being officially launched and I needn't subscribe but they would get in touch with me by e-mail to get my payment details.
I still haven't received that e-mail. Is anyone else waiting for that still?
Anyway, looking forward to getting some Thrill-power but am having sleepless nights over whether to go premium or not! who says life gets easier as you get older; decisions, decisions.

I assume the figurines will be the Doctor Who or Marvel sized, as per usual. Bloody expensive if they are, and no Slaine!!!! maybe there is more to come if the collection is extended.
Either way I'm a 50 year old who feels like a kid at Christmas again! Don't have any old progs or GN's, so look forward to getting back to the old thrill-power.

Ok, I'm going to say the unsayable, from the highly qualified position of having just returned to the GGC at the 40th anniversary.
Sorry to all who will be offended by this but here goes.......
The prog needs a new editor.(Runs for cover)
Matt has been there for 16 years and the signs are showing; the art, writing, attitude, social conscience and humour of the prog are all flat, they feel burnt out.
He's a good man, is well liked, but he needs a rest from the comic conveyor belt for a wee while just to recharge his batteries.
Nothing is too bad, but it is all a bit empty.
If I was King Tharg I'd give Garth Ennis (or some such standard of illumini) a call and offer him a chance to edit the prog for a couple of years with Matt as assistant editor.
But another thought is this......
Would the 10 year old me in 1977 have bought a comic entitled '1960AD'?
Of course not.
