I sometimes wonder if my ipod is truly random when it shuffles things.  This morning it gave me one Ben Folds Five song, some random funk, 'No Aphrodisiac' by the Whitlams and about five different tracks from the Godzilla movie soundtracks.

Tom Waits is an absolute musical genius. An absolute favourite of mine, only Sonic Youth and Deerhoof get close. Personally I prefer his Island Records and afterwards stuff, to his Asylum Years stuff. While both phases of his musical career are utterly distinct (aside from Neil Young has there ever been such a clearly defined and sustained change in musical tone?) both are fantastic and entirely defined by the man's craft.

Tom Waits is a genius, not so pure and not so simple.

Absolutely agree Colin...... :D

Love his earlier stuff, Blue Valentine, Franks' Wild Years, Heart of Saturday Night etc....and like you not so keen on his Asylum years stuff...
Completely original, thought provoking, lyrically astonishing and really just wonderful !!...

I love Tom Waits, most of my favourite Waits albums seem to have animals in the titles, Rain Dogs, Mule Variations, Swordfishtrombones.....

Tonight I shall be listening to New Model Army, live, in Portsmouth.  :D
Dumb all over, a little ugly on the side.

The game is a fun - if generic - first person shooter, but the retro-synth soundtrack for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDVKI1mMIQ
I spotted Terminator, Escape From New York, and Predator among others in there.  Fantastic stuff.

I hate it when I go through a musical drought but not the case lately. Went into town today and bought a bunch of CDs which I've been listening to online in the last few weeks.

Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I strayed across this online. Fantastic album.
Ten by Pearl Jam. Never had my own copy of this.
Electric Ladyland by Hendrix (of course). I have this somewhere on audio cassette (with the proper cover I – should add) but don't have anything to play it on. I got into it again as I bought it for someone's birthday recently as I was stuck for ideas.

Probably the best album I've heard in a long time is:
Cheap Thrills by Janis Joplin & Big Brother and the Holding Company
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXf3zXLd9gA
(With Robert Crumb cover.)
I went all over the place trying to find it today but will have to resort to iTunes or Amazon.

I held out with vinyl for quite a while before I caved in and started buying CDs. Now I am clinging onto CDs as I like having a physical format for my music. But it's clear the CD is a dying format.

What I will be listening to later is the new Primal Scream album More Light.
