Creative Common / ARTIST REQUIRED

Many band do a concept album, like Hawkwinds "Chronicle of the Black Sword" based on Elric and Sabbats "Dreamwaever" based on "They Way of Way Wyrd"

I now have the chance to create a comic based on the lyrics of Martin Walkyier of Sabbat/Skyclad fame. The man himself will endorse any work and write a nice intro, so anyone fancy a challenge?

According to Total film the music used when people use SloMo in the film is actually a Justin Bieber track slowed down by a ridiculous amount! Dredd,Bieber!!

Film & TV / New Fantastic Four
20 February, 2014, 10:13:11 PM
Now I'm not a big fan of Marvel....stopped reading in the late 80's. But I have a soft spot for the movies as they tend to take me back to that time...(I have both of the Ghost Rider flicks!)

All that said I really can't see any good in the new idea of the Fantastic Four for one simple reason....the casting of Ben Grimm the Thing. First go around it was Chiklis and I could live with that....the attitude was there even if he was a bit small!
But now we have the idea of Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm..the Thing...Billy Elliott as the Thing....I know it's a comic and an belief is to be suspended...but Billy Elliott!

I await the rebuffs.

Games / DUKE NUKEM - Old School
08 November, 2013, 05:38:09 PM
The original Duke and 3 expansions available to download from Steam for a mere £1.74. It might be old and a little dated but it's still a better game than that recent version.

New on STEAM for £12, the early access of the computer version of Games Workshops "classic" board game.

It's bright, colourful an like Chainsaw warrior does away with all the fiddly tokens and set up. However it's for 1-4 players but doesn't seem to have a "hotseat" setup, relying on a LAN setup. The other downside is that it does nothing to remove the frustration of the original board game that saw it consigned to the back of my game cupboard.

All in all I'd say it's about a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. If the game goes anymore than about 90 mins you're likely to get bored. i say that as my first game lasted 90 mins and I was starting to flag and i am now going to play something exciting...like Civy :D

News / A new 2000AD RPG
11 October, 2013, 11:42:44 PM
Just been on Cubicle 7's website and stumbled across the following "Nick Robinson is Line Developer for a new RPG based on a prestigious 2000AD property."

Since there have been 3 Dredd RPG's and 2 for Slaine, I really hope they are going to avoid those.

What's the chances of a Nikolai Dante RPG? I'd even take a Sinister Dexter game over yet another Dredd.

The old classic Games Workshop solo board game has just been released on the PC! A mere four quid, mine is downloading as i type.
It doesn't look flashy, just a nice rendition of the board game and at a fraction of the price that people are asking for the original on ebay (also there's no faffing with little counters etc).

Games / SPACE HULK
05 October, 2013, 01:32:38 AM
If you're a fan of GW's Warhammer 40K then you'll have this. For everyone else there's this.

From the get go I have always liked 40K games..Final Liberation, Space Crusade, 4ok Space Marine etc etc, and this doesn't disappoint.
For those unfamiliar with the 40k universe, you are in command of a terminator squad of marines ordered to secure a derelict ship...a space hulk, which has been over run by genestealers..(basically Aliens). The Genestealers have ferocious hand to hand abilities and can move through the ship a lot faster than you power armoured terminators. You on the other hand have troops armed with firearms, flame throwers and assault cannons.

Your weapons breakdown with alarming regularity and so you need to spend action points wisely, allowing you to set up overwatch (basically anything that comes in line of sight gets shot at) and leave points to clear jams.

It's a very atmospheric game and the screen in screen feedback from whatever terminator you are controlling is a nice touch.
I have read several reviews that claim the play time of the game is very short....they claim 12 hours, but that's seems to me if you do ever mission first time out, with no mistakes.

Overall...it's a good turn based game but with limitations and playability, I have just played 3 missions back to back and I,m done....but i will be back tomorrow!

Books & Comics / cubicle 7/ Rebellion
02 June, 2013, 12:06:00 AM
I posted before about how good the Laundry Files by Charles Stross are, a cross between Bond/dilbert and Cthulhu.  The books where put into RPG form by Cubicle 7 ( who also do a Dr Who rpg among others) and I have just read that Cubicle 7 are now part of Rebellions stable. Is it possible I may get to see The Laundry Files grace the pages of 2000ad  as the Stainless Steel Rat did?

I won't hold my breath as it's probably a pipe dream....still.

General / "In the public eye"
01 May, 2013, 11:26:29 PM
I have always liked the idea that any figure in the public eye is judged more harshly than the average citizen in Dredd. The idea being that anyone who is even remotely a "role model" can thenfore be a role model for justice.

For years the punishment for "celebs" has always been reduced due to their claim of the "charidy" work. In these days of Saville etc, does that arguement still stand up? Or should we embrace the ideas of Justice Department and look at longer(was going to say stiffer, but given the recent crimes .....) sentences for celebs who break the law?

Off Topic / Saying the wrong thing!
09 March, 2013, 01:21:54 AM
Wife just asked how her hair was?

Said it was fine  and jokingly made mention of a bowl.....she's now gone off in a half hearted huff.

To paraphrase Sam Jackson "If my answers upset you do not ask the questions"

Now...i bet i am not the only person here to have fallen into this trap! Least i hope not!

General / HOTDOG RUN
21 December, 2012, 08:24:18 PM
In what year of training do cadets take the Hotdog Run?
I want to say year ten but not sure that's right. I could trawl through the case files etc for the stories involving the subject but i know i can get a quicker and easier answer from the hive mind.

Thanks in advance.

Games / Elder Scrolls on-line
23 November, 2012, 10:44:42 PM
This sounds really great and will be on my PC as soon as its released.http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/

Given the size of Elder Scrolls games this is overdue and if we are very very lucky may lead to the long awaited Fallout on-line (but given all the legal woes of Fallout I won't hold my breath).

Film & TV / THE RIVER
19 October, 2012, 11:15:33 PM
Has this managed to keep anyones interest? I struggled with the first episode and gave up 20 minutes into the second. So many things i found annoying about the show....the bloody handheld camera style, the unlikeable cast and the <beeping> of any swearing...eith swear or don't for fuck sake!

Yet another series hyped as Steven Spielberg presents, a phrase I have now taken to mean it's going to be shite.

After watching G vs E ...again, thought i would ask you all to submit you  think has made a Faustian deal?
These are people that seem to have fuck all talent but have risen to stardom through what can only be Satanic influence.

Jack Black, Jordan(or whatever her real name is...i've heard her speak, she is in no way capable of writing a book), any politician etc etc.

Lets denounce these charlatans!!

Games / The Secret World
12 August, 2012, 12:36:57 AM
A new MMO set in the modern day.

Players belong to one of 3 factions : The Dragon, The Templars or The Illumati. Each has its own agenda, but this being an MMO all things lead to the same places.

Nice touches are that the first are is Kingsmouth...read Innsmouth , filled with zombies and deep ones. The music is atmospheric and suitably creepy.

Where this game deviates from the normal cookie cutter idea of skill trees and levels is that there are no levels!
Characters must decide on 2 weapons: sword/shotgun, pistol, chaos magic and so on to make unique attacks. Each weapon is capable of setting different states, wounded, impaired etc and do more damage when these are in place. This is no WOW rip off but a game that requires a bit of thought as a pattern of attacks against one group of enemies may not work on another.

A simple crating system allows players to make their own weapons, so powerful in some cases that they need to "grow" into them.

all in all the best MMO in a very long time.....(i say that now)
