Events / Heroes signing Glenn Fabry and Karen Holloway
28 September, 2019, 07:53:39 PM
Seems to be a bit low key but there was a signing by Glenn Fabry and Karen Holloway, who collaborated on the recent future shock 'Congested Anima' and the cover in which it appeared, prog 2149. They were both at Heroes comic shop in Newport on the Isle of Wight today. Being a Squaxx for over 30 years i went along and spent a great 15 minutes chatting and asking questions as there was very little queues, Glenn and Karen signed the prog, told me how they met to produce the artwork, Glenn was only too happy to sign my copies of the Preacher covers book and tell me some anecdotes about the work inside. Really nice to have the chance to see Glenn doing some sketching on some blank cover DC editions (he was halfway through a Harley Quinn when i arrived). Top marks to both of them for their time to do the signing!
Great to have some art droids on the island too, hope they repeat it and thanks to Rob and all at Heroes for their amazing store!

Cheers all, the Wagners Walk missing episode really threw me and when i checked the front of the floppy and saw it skipped some issues of Tornado, i was none the wiser!
I have to say these reprints are far superior to prog stuff released only a few years ago, any 'new' stuff like this gets my vote for future editions.

An excellent cover by Cliff Robinson and an interesting Dredd.

Alienist is building slowly, great artwork.

Hope is continuing to attract my attention, i am drawn to the main character alot and the setting is still a great departure from normal tooth territory.

I had to read Greysuit three times to follow this weeks instalment, a mess of an episode from two major 2000ad talents due to the fact two guys who look very similar are disguised in the same way. And didnt Zil get his head chopped off with a circular saw blade in Bolivaria? This strip is losing me big time.

3thriller opens big, great last panel. Is that a reject robot from Nemesis? Looking forward to episode two.

After trawling through the website of the collection and 30 pages of forum chat, is there no definite list of any of the volumes beyond the first 5? I'dlike to know what im actually going to be subscribing to before i part with 800 quid...!

They don't release a full list, unfortunately. Just as they come out. Though we know we're getting the full Nikolai Dante, which is 8/9 of the books. We can also assume we'll get all of Nemesis and Slaine. Beyond that; anybody's guess really. Only Tharg knows.

Cheers all

Having subbed for at least 4 years after the fanastic stateside comics in central london closed, ive always had the prog on a saturday while living in london. I moved to the isle of wight in july last year and the great service continues with a saturday delivery 95% of the time. Have to say its a better service than Amazon who cant seem to get prime deliveries to me next day anymore since i moved!
Great prog this week though i do have a niggle, namely Sinister Dexter. The reboot/rebirth/retcon is doing nothing for me, the strip is just a little tired after what, 23years?(!) yep, first published in 1995! Blimey youd have thought their shooting at goons, diving through hails of gunfire without a scratch and dull personalties would be wearing thin by now. Especially when Kingdom and Lawless is so good by comparison, kill em off and concentrate on the new stuff, because Mr Abnett, its what youre doing so damn well!

Another proud and surprised owner of a 40 years T shirt here too, was wondering what the hell the package was when i got in from work to be very pleased when i opened it up and find Dredd glaring at me from underneath a clear plastic bag. Cheers Sub droids, not knowing when these get sent out makes it a fun unexpected pressie in the post!

The printing on the penultimate page of Hunted, secong page of the future shock and the last page of Savage are really smudged in my copy, anyone else got a dud?
Apart from this, the Dredd is a good ending to whats been a fun old school Dredd, tasty Justice Dept approved foodstuff A anyone?
Flesh lost me ages ago, stopped caring when i couldnt recognise one character from another (bizarre that should happen with photo realistic artwork!) and the pace was just so sloooooow.
Hunted has been great fun to read but ultimately its fleshing out a story that we know how it ends so normally would be disregarded so its due to the strength of both writer and artist that its been so entertaing. I also guess for newer readers Hunted would be interesting to make them revisit old progs.
Future shock was mildly amusing, good work!
Savage- at least no song lyrics in this weeks prog! The straw dogs went down pretty easy from being introduced a few progs back as unkillable super robots, now Savage can take on a damaged one with his bare hands. Whereas the reboot introduced some real good stories about the nature of countries under occupation etc, its been running for a lot longer than i thought it would.
Cover is very eye catching but it took ages for me to realise Dredd is bursting through a really futuristic door....
