CBR has posted this article (http://www.cbr.com/exclusive-2000ad-reveals-carlos-ezquerras-40th-anniversary-cover/) about the 40th anniversary prog. Great to see Señor Ezquerra given the honours for such an important event. Up to his usual standard as well.
Being a little nitpicky but the article credits Starlord as a 'spinoff' which is not really 100% accurate. More of a 'failed competitor' really.
Never mind all that...! New Nikolai Dante by Morrison & Fraser!
There is nothing that is not awesome in that.
The cover. :D
The line up. :D

Well I can see certain corners of the 2000ad internet fandom smugly saying 'I told you so' with their normal 'guile'. I'm a bit excited by this and I'm intrigued to see where they go with it. Hope they don't tamper with the ending, but we'll see.
Never mind Nikolai Dante! I've been waiting flippin' ages to find out if both halves of Zombo are alright!
(What's the bet this'll be a one-off, out of continuity story, and I still won't find out?)
Bloomin' heck just seen more Zombo too. WAYHEY!!!!
More Jock, Dave Gibbons and Bryan Talbot too!
Yum, yum!!!! :)
I'm delighted at a new Dante strip, but I'm also thrilled that the Durham Red strip is being written/co-written by a woman. :) Does Lauren Beukes have any previous credits? I don't recognise her name.

Beukes is a writer with a good few novels and short stories under her belt, but I don't think she's written any comics. If memory serves, she did provide the intro for the recent Rebellion Halo Jones collection though, and she was on an episode of the Thrillcast so I assume that those appearances perhaps helped with setting up writing for Durham Red.
She's got a Vertigo series out at the moment, Survivors Club, and also appears in the Future Shock documentary.

Ah, cool - I've not been keeping up with US comics so I didn't realise she had a series on the go. Will be interested to see what this Durham Red is like.
If it's anything like her Japanese Rapunzel story in Fairest it'll be... interesting, if nothing else. Never thought I'd be saying this, but I really like it when Tharg puts new writers on these 'stalled' characters - Beeby's Anderson was a real highlight of this year's Prog for me. Durham Red could certainly use a fresher take than the Young Durham stuff from a while back.
Well I've seen the Future Shock documentary, so I'm obviously more familiar with her than I thought.
Thanks guys. :)
Excited to see a new take on Durham Red, a character who hasnt had the best of it even from her first appearance for my money - a female (co)writer might be just the thing she needs and if Lauren Beukes is the person I think she is from the podcasts, she seemed to have a very good handle on 2000AD, so bring it on
Saw the announcement yesterday and my eyes nearly ruptured at the news of new Nikolai Dante. Even if it's just a one-off, it'll have a hard time NOT being the best thing I read next year.
In any other occation the news of new Zombo would be the highlight for me, but gosh darn it, Zombo is a top 10 thrill where as Dante is a top 3!
I think it is heartening that we have Zombo, Dante and a new writing team on an older strip to balance the "classics" there - hopefull a new new series to fill in for the one offs in that line up afterwards
Nikolai, with Johnny and Halo. Maybe this work-in-progress piece will be the cover??

I'm assuming Dante will be a flashback. I kind of hope so.
Is Slaine the beginning of a new arc or a one off? Can't get enough of Simon Davis art.

Yes, I saw that.
But was thinking maybe the 40th anniversary prog will comes in multiple covers.
Thinking about it; Most likely the work in progress piece is one of the interior pages, and simply features a fun cameo from Mr Alpha, and Ms Jones.
I thought the 40th anniversary prog was a one-off in addition to the regular prog so perhaps it will test the water for a proper return of some characters in due course.
Very exciting.
Most excited for a Wagner / Doherty Dredd, though. Any idea of the plot?
Oh, and Zombo was one of the first graphic novels I purchased after I got back into reading comics, so i'll be looking forward to seeing what Ewing and the brilliant Henry Flint have cooked up.
Is it worth it to get caught up on Nikolai Dante? Maybe as good a reason to start getting caught up and purchase the collections?
Here's hoping that Peter is fully recovered for the release of the 40th and for the party. Im sure the forum wants to send him all our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Had no idea Peter was unwell.
Thoughts and prayers to him for a speedy recovery.
Was pleased to be able to meet him at the two last Thought Bubbles, so wishing Peter a swift and complete recovery.
His mother has posted on facebook that he is unconcious in intensive care in Sheffield after an operation for a torn aorta. His daughter Hope Doherty is collecting messages from fans on facebook and taking them to her father.
Words fail. This is ....
I'm just going to echo Rately. Thoughts and prayers with him and his family at this time.
Dillon with a ruptured appendix of all things and now this.
Aye, saw John Smith's statement on Pete's health the other day. Sent my wishes for good health, having met Mr. Doherty at the last two Thought Bubbles, even owning a wonderful watercolor Dredd head from him, he's an utterly wonderful chap!
All good wishes to Pete Doherty.
Loved watching him develop from Young Death and Justice 1 - both stories elevated by his art, to a truly world class artist (the early episodes of Judgment Day were stunning drawing me into the story despite its shortcomings).
Looking forward to the next Mega Collection - hoping for both Roadkill and Old Wounds.
Not surprised in the least that people speak so well of him, somehow that warmth seems to permeate his work.
2016 really needs a kicking. Here's hoping Peter Doherty fully recovers.
:o
Fuck. Hope he's conscious soon and recovers quickly - only just saw him at Thought Bubble :O He's an incredible talent and kind and supportive as anything. :'(
Hoping for a swift and full recovery for Peter, as well as a great artist he was a wonderful host of the panel at NICE this year, and a pleasure to listen to.

Aw how awful, poor Peter! Not only a great and unique storyteller who emerged at a time when such were in short supply, but a masterful colourist too. Every best wish and all my hopes for a full and rapid recovery.
Get well soon Peter Doherty.
Crap! all the best Peter.
As far as that Dante teaser, did he ever wear a sword when he had his blades ? If not it would have to be pre crest or post crest.

No dress uniform is complete without a sword even if it's not going to be used!
And here he is on the cover of the first collection:

Hope Mr Doherty recovers soon.
Funnily enough I was re-reading Young Death again the other day and thinking about what a great job he did with that story. He's one of the finest artists to have worked on the prog, in my opinion.
I can only echo what other posters have said. Best wishes to Pete and here's hoping he'll be better soon.
Thoughts are with Peter Doherty. Hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.
Best wishes to Peter!
Speedy recovery Pete!
Dante had a sword before he got the bio blades. And had one in times of ceremony until the death of crest when he went back to using a sword
...for those worried about Pete his daughter has said that he's now conscious again!
Here's hoping the road to recovery is a short one for him!
Well now thats good!
Molch-R has started a specific thread for get-well messages, which will be printed and sent to Peter. If you'd like to add something, please do:

Sure I've read it's a separate thing, like the summer special - so not included in the sub.
Have they confirmed if subscribers need to order a copy?

Two covers (so far).
They can be ordered here:

Forbidden Planet are also stocking them.

That's what struck me as well! I followed the link, thinking that "That website doesn't seem to work very well." would mean that the 'online' bit is missing from 2000adonline in the url (but followed the link anyway).
Confirmed via Twitter that this separate from Subs, so needs to be ordered separately. I went for Ezquerra too. Love Aja, but Ezquerra feels right.
Carlos is The Man, but that Aja cover is just amazing.
I went for both!
That way, everyone's happy! :)
Loving the Aja cover! More would be nice.
yeah, went with Aja great image and loving that B&W art
Went for the Aja cover as well. Love the look of it.
Is that a sure, sure thing that subscribers need to order it? Usually it is the case for one off stories separate from the ongoing stuff but according to the description on the webstore it will be indeed the beginning of ongoing new stories arc.
That's an odd thing or perhaps I have missed something :-*.
As subscribers do we have received a mail from Rebellion to tells us that we will not have part one of the new stories unless we buy this 40th anniversary special prog? I barely have time these days to check FB, Tweeter or even the thrill mail, and I have checked randomly the store today.
I can't see anything on the shop which implies they're part one.
All the promo I've seen has said there's a common red/ruby theme and they're standalone.
It has definitely been said they're not part of the subscription. They're a separate purchase like the sci-fi specials.
Thanks for the quick response. But here is the link I am referring https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/SPE1701A (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/SPE1701A) .

"Variant 1 of 2" just means there are two front cover pictures, and you're looking at the first one. But all the stories are single episodes.

Not yet, but the Twitter Droids informed me yesterday that it should arrive by Wednesday.
I've been looking forward to the Anniversary prog all day... but it's 'Not Available' on the iPad App. As in, it's there, tantalizingly, but won't let me buy it.
What gives?
My print copy hasn't been dispatched yet either.
Had an email this morning from the Shop saying my 40th Anniversary Progs have been dispatched today, so I expect they'll be arriving by the weekend?
Yeah mine has been dispatched today as well. Will have to grab the alternate cover on my way to work. Can't wait to get this read.

Mainly a "digital" collector nowadays, but i might just pop into the newsagents and grab one as well.
Can't wait to get home and have a read, whether digital or physical.
Dispatch email as well. Both copies winging their way. At least with this we got the choice, not like the prog 2000 scalpers debacle for subscribers.
I got an email telling me that the A cover was available for order today... although it's been available for preorder with the B cover for a good while now. I've already ordered it a couple of weeks back. (I'm just a bit puzzled that they're telling me that the cover I actually ordered is available for order, rather than both, making me wonder if this is a two part process.)
Nothing about dispatch, but as I ordered it after a lot of people I expect mine to be sent later. It's no problem.

Ah, so you ordered both James? I just ordered A and just got the notification for that one. So they're telling us the ones we preordered are available then. As I already sent my card details, I won't order it again. Could get a bit expensive.
Actually, I wonder if they're doing it this way to give us the opportunity to order the digital versions as well, if we want them, as I don't think they were available for pre-order.
I don't really double dip for format, and usually stick with digital, but as this is a bumper seminal issue, I decided to go the traditional paper route for this, but I know there are plenty who like both for convenience.
I thought this thread was for the usual weekly prog rather than the special, which is why I started a review thread for the special (http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=44183) (there's another special thread named 40th anniversary prog too!)
Tips for poor digital subscribers. The special is still marked as not available on the iPad app, or at least it is on mine, but if you buy it from the website it can be downloaded in app.
