Still better than the Vincent Price version Last Man On Earth, if only for sheer 70's funkiness. There was going to be a Ridley Scott / Schwarzenegger version for the 90's, the storyboards were in SFX at one point...

Well I think we're now ever gonna get Arnie's I am Legend, mores the pity coz the script was pretty good.

I'm quite a fan of Verhoeven's work... I'm sure half the time he's just deliberatly taking the piss, ie with Starship Troopers and Basic Instinct but esp Hollow Man and the delerious Showgirls

I also agree that Starship Troopers is not supposed to be taken seriously. It's just Beverly Hills 90210 in space. Sci-fi-lite.

Thats what I like about it.

A stranger site by far is to be seen in the Jay and Silent Bob comic 'Chasing Dogma'. They stumble across the now grown up star of Doogie Howser who is making a porno version of that show called 'Doogie Nights'...

I cannot believe people took ST seriously !! i think i started to for the first few minutes , thinking "god this is shit" then i started laughing at how shit it was, then i realised it was meant to be & laughed even harder & felt a fool.. er... it was meant to be wasn't it ?

Capt.Zeep

Yeah I thought ST was ahuge pisstake really, a kind of retro 50s take on the future.  I read the book years ago so I can't really remember how it went.  I think at the time i thought  "space...war...YEAH!"
(War's not coolthough, kids)

Regardless of whether ST was supposed to be taken seriously or not. Shit is shit. End of story.

Not sure if this is right or not but wasn't the original V.C.s based on the novel Starship Troopers?

It was indeed yer man Haldeman who wrote The Forever War and well worth a read it is too. Won just about every SF writing award going. Unlike modern sci-fi it has the advantage of not needing cranage to lift it either. Think it comes in at about 200 odd pages so you can get through it in a weekend.
