Fallout 4

I should be saving my son but I keep wandering into random buildings and killing everything instead.

I just went back to this after a 6 month break and rather than search for my child I went on holiday to Nuka-World. Its actually quite a meaty sized DLC with lots to do and see. Some very tough enemies mind and a wee cameo from a FA3 character.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Link Prime

Loved Nuka-World, but I don't think I'll ever be able to get that theme song out of my head.

Some really annoying trophies too if I recall, collecting the Nuka-Cade tickets and Nuka-Cola exotic recipes in particular.
Something I had to 100% though.

Picked up a secondhand copy of the new Doom a few weeks ago and it's cracking fun. I'm not much of an authority on shooters but this is a frenetic, gore-packed adrenaline rush.

I'm into the last few levels now and sufficiently tooled up that nothing is causing me  major problem but I think I'll definitely give it another go on Ultra-Violence, which is unusual for me to bother about.

I like to take time out to pore over the achevements I have and haven't unlocked in a game. There's one here for killing a certain number of enemies with the chainsaw which fewer people have unlocked than have finished the game. I had it by the end of the fourth level.
We never really die.

I'm currently replaying Doom on Ultra-Violence.

Stunning game! Gameplay is intense, a worthy successor to the mighty Left 4 Dead 2 (very different games but both have 'edge of the seat' relentless action).

I tried playing on Ultra-nightmare mode (one Death and you restart the entire game) and after two weeks managed to do only the first stage! Hard as Fuck!

Cheers

So enjoying Sniper 4. Love that Italian/med looking campaign island.
The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

Keef Monkey

Yeah Sniper Elite 4 is great, so satisfying to take ages over a level being as stealthy and methodical as possible (but also still fun when that plan goes to pot).

I'm playing Machinarium at the moment, and getting really bummed out by my inability to solve any of the puzzles without using the wee in-game hint guide. It's genuinely making me feel really stupid and putting me on a bit of a downer. My wife loves the game and recommended it, but then she's much, much, much smarter than me.

Keef Monkey

Finished Machinarium, overall I find it really hard to dislike it because it looks so beautiful and has so much dang charm. On the occasion that I did solve a room of puzzles on my own it felt great too, but in general the thing was just too obtuse and too many puzzles spanned multiple areas (you can spend forever trying to figure out what to do without realizing you're missing an item from elsewhere, leading to another pixel-hunting trawl through every area).

I was playing on tablet and I hear it's much more pleasant on PC, where you have a cursor and can sweep it around to see what highlights as an interactive object, where on tablet your only way of telling is to tap on something. The touch controls aren't the most responsive either so I'd often tap something, see that nothing happens then move on, only to find that it just hadn't registered the tap.

A frustrating experience, but a gorgeous one.

I'm playing the shit out of Horizon Zero Dawn and it's brilliant! Despite me being really far into it and levelling up significantly, the battles with the (amazingly cool) robotic beasties are still very frantic and challenging.

It has to be one of the most beautiful games I've played too, very next gen Red Dead Redemtion. It's one of those where sometimes I just stop and gawp at the scenery.

It's very long too, which is nice!

I've installed the 50GB(!) download on to my PS4 but I'm still not expecting to drop any actual money on MEA until the price drops to the sub-£20 mark, mind you. (Unless the trial absolutely blows me away, which I guess is what BioWare is hoping but word of mouth suggests it probably won't. We'll see.)

Inspired by the newest most interesting tabletop RPG I have set my eyes on, the wonderful Red Markets, I have reinstalled Left4Dead2.

Yes as good as I remember it, even if the models aren't quite as sharp as I recalled. Like Red Markets it turns out I am not exhausted of Zombies as long as you do something interesting and fun with it.
