Suggestions / Bring back....
19 March, 2002, 06:31:28 AM
Best of 2000AD Monthly. I know the meg reprints stories but I miss the days when I could get a whole major story arc together for a reasonable price. Titan books are good but I find them a little pricey, and don't reprint much very often.

Please..pretty please bring it back - could be part of the anniversary celebrations - ther must be plenty of material that hasn't been reprinted for a long time or in the previous monthly that could make it worthwhile. Go on rebellion - give it a go.

Prog / latest Prog
14 March, 2002, 02:12:26 AM
Cover - muddy, dull, boring, didn't make me want to read inside.. and its Atavar :(

Judge Dredd - really liked this yet another sequel to some old stories. Is Wagner clearing out what he thinks is unfinished business, or being lazy - use old ideas repeat until others hate them - however it works for me... continues next week

Attavar - a bit more explanation but after two issues I know about as much as I did about Shakara

Sinister Dexter - strange art here. The duo were in the background for this one. A slight change from the normal Sinister Dexter story of get contact, go kill, say Funt a lot, kill, end.

Dante - like this a lot at the moment. Lots of development. Ocean's Eleven anyone?

Terror tales - predictable filler. I see it has a vote so far of around 5 but really didn't like this. Art was nice though but just didn't like the story. Come on peeps - vote lower!

Overall an average prog with a very good Dredd - I guess others will disagree with me but I like these morons. They make me feel clever!

General / New case in court
10 March, 2002, 10:51:15 PM
The last case seems to have worn itself out to a close. Judge PVS with repect I would like to submit a new case for the enjoyment of the court.
Many of us refer to "classic" 2000AD. But what stories are deserving of such a title? We now have a list of the stories that no-one will defend. What a bout a list of stories most of us like but is there anyone out ther who didn't like them? Is anyone prepared to say "I didn't like the Apocoalypse War because..." etc?

The first stage of this second case is to nominate the stories you think are "classic" deserving 10/10 on the voting forms. Then to condemn the se stories to not being classics other people need only say they don't like them even better if there is an explanation.

My suggested classics are:-

Necropolis
Mechanismo
Song of the Surfer
Apocalypse War
Bad Company I and II
The Ballad of Halo Jones I, II & III
Strontium Dog - The Ragnarok Job, Rage

What else?

Apparently there is going to be another trailer for Attack of the Clones put up on the official website www.starwars.com on March 15th. This one is going to show more of the battle sequences - not the love angle. Yay!

The following is from Lucasfilm:-
This Sunday, March 10, the public will get their first look at the full trailer for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones as it airs on FOX television in America and also is posted to the Official Star Wars website, starwars.com. The trailer will begin playing theatrically on March 15, exclusively with the animated feature Ice Age, and other films thereafter.

"With this trailer, we start to look at the story and the state of the galaxy in Episode II," says Lucasfilm?s VP of Marketing, Jim Ward. "It sets the stage for what?s about to happen and how the characters are involved. We find out that the Republic is on the brink of war, and the Jedi are overburdened in trying to hold everything together."

The two-and-a-half minute trailer culminates with glimpses of some of the largest action sequences ever found in a Star Wars movie. Entitled "Clone War," this trailer begins to lift the veils of secrecy surrounding the mysterious Clone Wars first mentioned -- but never elaborated upon -- in the original A New Hope in 1977.

"In Episode II, we?re going to see the Jedi in action like we?ve never seen them before," says Ward. "We?re going to see hundreds of Jedi, hundreds of lightsabers, thousands of clones, in a huge battle. The trailer gives just a hint of what?s to come."

The trailer airs on FOX this Sunday between original episodes of "Malcolm in the Middle" (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) and "The X-Files" (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

Any US lurkers can you tell us if it's any good? Rex???

Other Reviews / Big Breakfast - interview
28 February, 2002, 10:04:45 PM
Did anyone else see the interview on the Big Breakfsat with Jamie, Siku and Alan?
Jamie (Hewlett???) looked like he wanted to be anywhere else or dead rather than there, Siku was introduced as the "Judge Dredd artist" - how many has he done????? and Alan ( not sure who he was) was just embarrassing - "we're all droids you know" and so on. An opportunity to have tried to get more people interested in 2000AD and it was just embarasing. Although Siku and Jamie were going to do a mural of the Big Breakfast presenters in Judge Dredd suits. I had to leave for work before this was finished - did anyone see it was it any good. Big Breakfast site has not made any mention of it - shame :(
All in all it seemed to be another wasted opportunity to gain good press and promotion for 2k.
Sorry if this seems harsh but it was shameful.

General / A CHALLENGE TO REBELLION - Free Gifts
11 February, 2002, 06:00:45 AM
It's a long time since there were any free gifts in 2k - do we want them still - last one was Homeworld PC demo - prog 1159 September 1999 - and I don't really think that counts or prog 1111 Sept 1998 - Free Comics International again not 2k related so IMHO does not count. This means the last 2k related free gift was 1068 Judge Dredd Poster Magazine way back in November 1997.

Come on Rebellion give us something for nothing!

General / Pop Idol
11 February, 2002, 05:46:21 AM
Now the mass PR machine that is ITV's Pop idol has temporarily ended - until the release of the new Westlife song - Which 2k character should be a pop idol?

My suggestion - Judge Death
Even Judge Death and the Gribligs

Have heard a rumour that the Dark Judges are playing at Ministry of Sound event - Move over Here'Say!

Suggestions / Story idea
08 February, 2002, 10:40:21 AM
A while back people were suggesting ideas of what they thought might make a great story. Many of the ideas sounded interesting particulalry the ones about near future.

My two pence worth of an idea - to have a story simialr to the BBC's dramamentary about an outbreak of smallpox in the US and around the world. It wouldn't need guns and violence but could be a superb near future story, without lots of whizzes and bangs and just be good gripping storytelling.
What do others think? Anyone else see the programme?

Newt (What the hell am I doing coming back here at 4.45 am!)

alt.comics.2000ad - thread "Bad Company 3" Gone on for ages. Andy Diggle seems to be getting a bit of a mauling from the posters... I see Scojo and PVS have already put there bits in... just as a taster here is one other quote from Andy Diggle (ex-editor) [yes i know I'm taking it out of context and he was being sarcastic]

Are you suggesting that our deliberate Editorial Policy of rejecting
all Good Stories and commissioning only Crap was somehow
self-defeating? Drat!

Boy, do I feel silly now.

Andy

The thread does make interesting reading... very interesting reading... hmmm yes my wise ones, very very interesting, indeed.

Help! / Neil Gaiman
06 February, 2002, 08:37:02 AM
Its a long time since Neil Gaiman had anything printed in 2k. Does anybody know if it was published before or after the first Sandman stuff. Had he already become famous? or is it yet another example of 2k having launched a career?

General / Scojo's fame spreads!
06 February, 2002, 05:16:06 AM
Just seen scojo being mentioned in the thread "Bad Company 3" on the alt.comics.2000ad newsgroup - think it was Jim Campbell who made the post.

Anemic_Newt - still lurking but I have nothing to say - still in shock from the utterly shocking and ghafflebette ending to Bad Company 3 :) !

Prog / Prog 1276 - no major spoilers promise
25 January, 2002, 01:29:07 AM
Just got home from work and there on my mat was a letter from Rebellion. Wondering what was going on - had I been drafted into the academy of Law, I quickly opened the leter containment device to discover a nice shiny complete pack of those postcards I criticised for being overpriced.
Accompanied by a letter personally signed by Tharg - apparently my letter has been printed (Yay!) I don't know when it will see print I'm guessing in the next issue.
I can't remember what I said or even if I signed it Newt or my real name.
However I have such an exciting life I am now very excited.
I have not had a letter printed in 2k since the issue revealing the Dead Man was Dredd on the cover.
What will Tharg say to my incessant ramblings?

Anyway the postcards are now good value for money - FREE!

Even better than that I have Tharg's autograph!!!!!

I think you'll find that the rebel alliance have hidden their plans in...
did you get that?
I sent it using the power of my mind.

What you didn't?

Oh no we're all going to die
