It's the last one before Christmas and with stories fresh from Thought Bubble in our heads, what better way to end the year than a gathering for tales, drinking, food and fun.
SAT 12th Nov 2016 in that there London
If you've never been to one then why not start now and have an enjoyable time. We all meet up at Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue between 12:00 - 13:00 and then wander down Neal Street (opposite the shop) and into The Crown and Anchor, which is on the left and is a corner building.
I know many people can't get to conventions and therefore never see members of the 2000 AD community, be it from here or facebook. This is a social event when you can meet a few of us, putting names to faces and just relax, have a pint, chat about anything and feel welcomed by everyone.
I hope we see a few new faces from the many new arrivals to the forum!
We'll be there!
Thanks John.
Looking like I can make this one.
I'll be there, and I'm sure Judge Thread shall make an appearance. :)
You never know who, or what will make an appearance in the pub :D
Is this not the same day as the Lakes Con?
That's mid-October
Sort of off-topic - but is there anything planned for the Prog 2000 signings, other than attendance at the London comic shops in question?
Not really, unless you want a date added.
I might finally get along to this...would be interested to meet you guys.
You should come along. We always have an enjoyable time and it's a great way to put avatars to faces, without going to a Con.
I've only just discovered this section of the Forum - never knew you all met up in the flesh periodically. Reckon I can come to this meet on 12th November. What are the rules for introducing yourself? Wear a conspicuous Thargian T-Shirt and look awkward til someone says hi?

Yep, that's about it. If you don't identify anybody at the comic shop, just go to the pub and make a beeline for the geekiest people you can see :-)
We could be upstairs if you don't see anybody immediately.
Might be able to finally make one. We'll see
Yeah! The more the merrier and as said AlexF, we are easy to find. We're the coolest and most handsome/beautiful people you will see that day
Just found out I can't make this one or I'd introduce you, Alex. Check out the photos on the not quite southern contingent meet up thread, or the Facebook group and you'll spot some faces to look out for

Too bad Eamonn - guess we won't see you 'til February then?

Fingers crossed
Smashing. I've had the release form signed by my wife so I'm good to go. Sorry to miss you this time, Eamonn!
Excellent, we will see you there and we'll see you at Thought Bubble or the 40th Eamonn.
Just bumping this, as it's this weekend.
Come along for a pint or two, have a chat, as there's much to talk about including the 40th, Thought Bubble and the Strontium Dog Fan Film. If you are on facebook just search for the group and keep up with future events on there if you like, although we do post them up here all the time.
All are welcome and it's always great to see new faces and chat
Looking forward to it - last gathering before the fortieth, or will there be something in between?
Weird typing this, asking you a question, while listening to ECBT2000AD (hope your cough gets better - mine also).
I'm okay now. It was really weird but those Halls killed it for me in the end.
By the way, I shall be bringing two of the Strontium Dog Fan Film goody bags (Carolyn and Sam's) to give away on the day ;)
May be popping in at some point during the day, if we swing over to that side of London

I know a cast member who couldn't make it to Thought Bubble who wants one. ;)
Hmm. Terrifyingly, I'm going to be in London this weekend. Unfortunately, we're staying in Carnaby Street so there's no way I could get all the way across town to this.
'All the way across town'? It's like a 15 minute walk from Carnaby St to Neal St, no? Barely two stops on the tube!
Although you'd have to brave the back streets of Soho and walk right past Gosh Comics, resisting the temptation to browse in there for a few hours.

I couldn't work out if I,Cosh was being ironic there - you couldn't wish for a much closer place.

If it's any consolation John had a cold during the panel, so that could technically be Dredd merchandise you've got there.
Signings at FB:
13:00 - 14:00 Peter Milligan and John McCrea
13:00 - 14:00 Noel Clarke
13:00 - 14:00 Emma Newman

The Milligan and McCrea signing is in Birmingham.
See you all later in jolly old London. :)
Setting off in 40 mins and I'll give one of the SD goody bags to Albion due to his sterling deaths and the spare will be in the free raffle ;)

Awesome. Thanks John. :D
Excellent turn out yesterday and a big thank you to all who came, especially Magnetica who came to his first gathering
After a quick look round Forbidden Planet, where Guy made a killing buying Disco Dredd and his Lawmaster, we moved to the pub and went straight upstairs, as it was chokka downstairs and soon after it was the same upstairs, especially as the contingent started to arrive.
A great afternoon and evening of chat, with sketches being drawn, comics being looked at, laughs been had and drinks being drunk. Oh yeah, Simon won the Strontium Dog goody bag.
All I can say is thank you everyone for coming along, as it's everyone that makes these gatherings so relaxed and enjoyable.
Roll on the next one, as we've booked the 40th as the show for it ;)
Thanks John. It was great to meet all of you yesterday and have some Tooth chat.
That was another enjoyable Southers gathering on Saturday. Was great to see so many Southers stalwarts and to meet newcomers AlexF and Magnetica.
Here are a few pics taken towards the end of the evening in The Crown & Anchor, which doubles up as the Southern Contingent Nerve Centre.

Albion's fine artwork for Simon's Mekon Challenge.
Those were to the end of the gathering, as we'd moved away from the tables and retired to the fireplace and comfy seats.
Damn, I didn't realise AlexF popped in. That's what happens when you're deep in conversation. I do apologise Alex, hope to chat with you at the next one.
Great pics by the way SuperSurfer
Damn, is it due to the camera angle or lighting or am I finally thinning on top?
Oh vanity, thy name be Dunk!
Great afternoon otherwise though. :)
Sorry I had to run off so early - I was very impressed at the turnout, and it was lovely to meet some actual comic fans in the flesh! Will aim to get to the next one for longer.
I did ponder as I was walking to the pub that rule 1 of the internet is 'never agree to meet people in real life who you only know from online'. Happily I discovered an addendum to that rule: 'unless they're 2000AD readers'.

Hold onto your follicles, Dunk you're doing fine in that department.
It looks to me as if it's the light.
Apologies, I should have been more careful about giving a fellow squaxx of roughly the same age as me a complex over such matters.
Who says comics are for kids?

Don't. I spent 10 minutes the other day going backwards and forwards under a shop's CCTV trying to work out how far way I was from the full Friar Tuck.
As usual another excellent gathering organised by Commando Forces.
Can I also thank Albion and SuperSurfer for taking the 'Mekon challenge'. Both passed with flying colours and I am now the proud owner off more amazing versions of his old green bonce.
Good to hear you all had a nice time. Not only wasn't I able to stop by for a pint, but I also failed in my other 2000AD related quest to recreate my favourite Bill Savage adventure aboard a genuine DUKW (http://www.londonducktours.co.uk/).
I did attempt to draw a Chopper tag on one of the exhibits at the Tate Modern (http://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-modern/display/materials-and-objects/rudolf-stingel).

As it happens, we stumbled across this place completely by accident. What an absolutely wonderful shop! I did feel a bit bad as some American people were there doing a signing for Shade the Changing Girl to very little interest.

I had looked on the Gosh website for any events happening on Saturday just gone and found it pretty useless. It doesn't surprise me that people missed that there was something happening on Saturday (the posts are sorted by when they were announced, not by what day the event is actually happening). Shame, as I wouldn't have minded a look at the new Shade (used to get the early 1990s version).
