I have rediscovered this :

Off an album called Sleeps With The Fishes - Pieter Nooten/Micheal Brook - 1987 4AD records

Although this is actually Brian Eno doing what he does best as Eno is featured on the album. Its too short but it sounds fucking amazing through headphones with the volume turned up.

Hole. I know she's a mentalist and they got really crappy when all the proper members left, but Pretty on the Inside is a truly great record. An amazing mixture of tunes, anger and noise; one of the most underrated albums ever and far better than anything her dreary husband ever produced in my view.
We never really die.

I have never listened to it but Live Through This is very very good.

Yeah 'Live through this' is a great record and live Hole were quite superb.

Yeah, Live Through This is a good one too, I just prefer the scuzziness of Pretty on the Inside.

Colin, many moons have passed over the great water since the night I saw them supporting Mudhoney, but I still remember it being a fabulous gig.

I have just rediscovered 'Original Sin' by Theatre of Hate, thanks to the excellent film drama biography of Boy George, Worried About the Boy, on BBC2 Sunday night. Seeing them rehearsing it in the film made us think we'd heard it recently in a club and maybe on CD. It turns out it was on a goth compilation we took on a long road trip when we did our Christmas visiting, and yeah, I reckon I did hear it on a night out since.

It was bugging me last night that I couldn't even conjure up the tune in my head and all I kept getting was Do You Believe in the Westworld, so I had to ransack the CD racks in two rooms to find what I was looking for (and that was a bit of a feat because the back room was a complete tip already).

STRIKE !!!

Theatre of Hate had passed me by. I enjoyed this. Especially the first minute. The production sound is so indelibly of its time: the drums a crude imititation of the echoing emptiness Martin Hannett gave Joy Division and the sharpness of the guitar quite delicious in anticipation of the crushing inevitability of life and choruses.
We never really die.

If you are enjoying rediscovering Theatre Of hate you should also check out Kirk Brandon's later work with Spear of Destiny. the music is not as harsh as theatre of hate but still has the same edge in the lyrics & his stage perforemance on sonjgs  such as LIberator & Prisoner of Love of the ablbum One Eyes Jack

Today has reinvigourated me.

Drokking since 1972

Peace is a lie, there's only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.

I know this isn't wildly obscure but Pulp's 'His 'n' Hers' has  been gathering dust on my cd rack for years and having just dug it out again it sounds as fresh and brilliant as it ever did
I was going to procrastinate but I think I'll leave it till tomorrow

One of my fave bands of the early 90's, Stone Temple Pilots are back with a new album and giving it some of the old Rock and the Roll!
