In the long line of running of the prog/meg there will always be a gem (in the eye of the beholder) that has not been published that a lot of us would like to be collected. What is you "gem" that you will dish out your hard-earned cash to get your greedy paws on? What is your top 3 please collect list?
- Metalzoic (yes, we know some copyright nonsense)
- Carver Hale
- Armoured Gideon (collection 2)
- Kola Kommandos
- Junker
- Bix Barton
- Brigand Doom
- Rogue (Friday)
- Kelly's Eye
- Maniac 5
- Medivac 318
- Sancho Panzer
- The Scarlet Apocrypha
- Strontium Dogs (remember the S)
- What about....................
Metalzoic
Medivac 318
The Scarlet Apocrypha
I think most if not all of those are involved in rights issues, not just Metalzoic, but putting that aside
Medivac 318

Medivac definitely is. In fact, if memory serves, Hilary Robinson got the rights back to this (and I think, Chronos Carnival).

Interesting and this might explain the lack of a collection for both these stories
the mind of wolfie smith
some of john ridgway's art from junker deserves to be seen as part of one of these new fangled best of books.
non prog, but related, and probably a forlorn hope at this point, but i would love the second half of the wildcat saga to see the light of day.

the mind of wolfie smith
Would love that as well since I have never read it
Definitely Armoured Gideon
I too have never read The Mind of Wolfie Smith, so another vote for that.
Tempted to lump my third vote in for Bix Barton, but every time I remember the joys of the like of the Haunted Full English I then remember the terrible terrible lows of that Carry On story. Shadows got a lot of love in the top thrill votes too. But what I'd really like is for something like a collected Johnny Red
Armoured Gideon maybe with Dead Meat, Dinosty ( I know another rights issue), Brigand Doom
Atavar
An early classic of Abnett/ Elson alien weirdness. Only the first two (of three) series made it into reprint, which is a massive shame.

I could have sworn this got a digital collection, but can't see it. Such a shame as its a great series. Good call.
Shadows
Metalzoic
The Scarlet Apocrypha
Armoured Gideon
Shadows would be a close 4th.
For those after the Strontium Dogs stuff stories, Hachette are doing 3 volumes in the Ultimate Collection and it looks like that'll collect nearly all of it along with a bunch of Durham Red stories.
Didn't Atavar get a reprint in thr floppies? But since we are talking about proper bookshelf editions, I would have to cry out for:
The Complete Sinister Dexter
Complete Vector 13
Mek Files volumes 4 onwards.
With special mention made for a hardback Shako, with special white furry slipcase that features a rubber bear paw tearing through the front and the logo stained in red ink on the fur.
SBT
Armoured Gideon
Scarlet Apocrypha
Atavar

Wot like this? all four volumes! Possibly five
That doesn't collect the full run afaik, just stops after a bit.

Me, me, me want, want, want. Come on Rebellion you did Charley's War now do Johnny Red.
Well, Metalzoic has been collected, in as much as the original was a graphic novel. That said, I'd love to see it collected again, although I will note I much prefer to the UK black and white version to the original coloured comic. Of the rest of that list, Armoured Gideon feels like it's going to be the one that got away.
Looking at Barney, I can't really think of anything else I'd want to buy in collected form that doesn't already exist. The only exception would be strips where the trades just stopped, or titles I'd much rather have in HC. But then it seems 2000 AD fans as a whole don't like HC that much, otherwise we'd have loads more of the things.
i'd also like some annotated editions of some of the stories that are clearly good - but which i'm too stupid to understand much of the time. i'm guessing the order, kek-w's indigo prime and some john smith would be top of the list here.
1. Wolfie Smith (especially the Tornado stuff wot I have never read)
2. Armoured Gideon Books 2 and beyond
3. Complete Night Zero (so far Beyond Zero has not been reprinted in any format, I think?)
The Scarlet Apocrypha seems very popular - but it WAS collected, by Rebellion no less, in the third of their original Durham Red TPBs (the Empty Suns) - which is very much where it belongs, would be a bit odd as a standalone I think. That book seems to be out of print, though.

The Hachette volumes are great for a bit of context. Every one has an intro by Matt Smith, then an interview with the creators at the back. They're a goldmine of info - I've learnt all kinds of fascinating things about why certain decisions were made in certain strips.

I would also love this. I nearly stuck it on my list but I wasn't sure what had been reprinted in the floppy. I was pretty sure Beyond Zero had made it into one?
Night Zero Megazine 338, Beyond Zero 340. Below Zero never reprinted afaik.
Wolfie Smith would be good.
* Daily Star Dredds - I think there are some of these which never got collected. I guess the hardcover sales weren't great - perhaps the Meg could reprint the last ones.
Outside of 2000ad...
Unless I've missed the reprint, there's a whole bunch of stuff Alan Moore did for Doctor Who weekly/monthly which hasn't been seen for 40 years.
Sancho Panzer
Best of Vector 13
Middenface: Wan Man un His Dug
Metalzoic
Complete Sinister Dexter
Complete Armoured Gideon
Really want to read Shadows too. There's quite a few strips I've either only partly read or not read at all that I'd love to see in the Meg floppies. Mostly stuff that isn't that highly thought of but that I still want to read at least once - Dynosty, Junker (yep!), Kola Kommandos, Zippy Couriers, Medivac, Dead Meat. Not the most popular thrills obviously, I just want to have read them once to tick them off my list, but not enough to buy the back progs I'm missing!
Would be good to see Sancho Panzer and Brigand Doom turn up in the floppy too. And a nice collection of all John Smith's one-off stories please!
You have until Monday to decide what must be collected. It looks like a 3 way battle for top spot

Careful what you wish for!
- Rogue (Friday): Heard it's not great but still want to read it.
- The Scarlet Apocrypha: Never read it but want to!
- Strontium Dogs: "Strontium Anything"...take my money!

If you can find a copy, get that Hachette volume. That's the best of it. And as I discovered on re-reading, it's... not good.
Thanks for the tip! I enjoy the original Rogue Trooper and War Machine so much that can't see how it could have gone so badly. Futue war and augmented clones...what could go wrong?
