Books & Comics / Essential Judge Dredd Apocalypse War
13 January, 2021, 02:24:45 PM
For the upcoming release of Essential Judge Dredd Apocalypse War I noticed that the collection is going to be in all colour. Now I never read the original run when it was first published. Was it then already all colour or just this first two pages of each episode?

This is one of those classics thrills which I always wanted to re-read but did not have access to the material. It is great news now that we will have this available in a digital format for the first time (I am also looking forward to the other digital first titles)

What really stood-out for me in Armoured Gideon is the amazing art of Simon Jacob. His art really carries the story which is also a quite an interesting premise.  Armoured Gideon if you do not know is demon-slaying robot with an awesome vocabulary that consists out of one word "Annihilate".

The digital version also contains the following shorts collected for the first time: 'No, No, Nanette' from 2000 AD Prog 722, 'Starhavon's Edge' from the 1990 2000 AD Sci Fi Special and 'Making Movies' from the 1992 2000 AD Sci Fi Special.

So my question is why are you waiting to download it?

03 January, 2021, 10:03:49 AM
It is time to vote for your favourite writer. The work covered is in the prog/meg and all the specials

Who is your favourite writer droid of 2020?

Format is easy. Simply look at the list in the next post - and post your top three in a reply to this thread - just make sure to clearly indicate your order using the format below - with the points awarded for each placing:

(1st, foremost and best) = 5 points
(2nd runner up) = 3 points
(Bronze who cares really) = 1 point

If you don't make it clear I'll award all your mentioned votes 3 points each.

The vote will run for a week and I'll announce the winner early Monday 11th January

If you have any questions just ask and I'll wing it as normal...

This category is for those using heroes these droids make that good strip extra special by adding their specific trade to it. We rarely give these droids any credit, so it is time that we honour these fine folks as well.  These are the lettering and colourist droids; this is their category.

It is now time to cast your vote for your favourite short story that were either published in the prog, megazine or any of the glorious specials during 2020.

So, ground rules relating to which short stories are applicable or not:
-   No Dredd short story is allowed since we will have a time to vote for our favourite lawman
-   Only original stories are allowed no reprints

The below words were stolen from Colin so take it up with him if you do not like these or would prefer some other ones used.

Format is easy. Simply look at the list in the next post - and post your top three in a reply to this thread - just make sure to clearly indicate your order using the format below - with the points awarded for each placing:

General / That Twitter thread… You know the one
21 November, 2020, 07:26:19 PM
Not sure if this is the right spot to put this but here go from Pat's twitter feed:

Q: When's the Joe Pineapple stuff coming out?

A: Good question. Clint's art ETA originally Oct, we're now in November - so let's assume December. Then I have to write the finale eps which Clint has to draw.  Add on six months, maybe. So I'd guestimate next Summer

Other Reviews / Thirteenth Floor Vol. 2
21 October, 2020, 11:42:19 AM
I have just completed the second volume and a quick summary is:
Volume one is the stronger of the titles.  The main factor is the max-spy thread which I ma not to keen on and secondly is that I always liked the fact that nobody had an idea that Max had a 13th floor. I ma still a big fan of Jose Ortiz art and it delivers every panel.

Overall, still this is some great classic British Comics. John Wagner and Alana Grant the masters of time and space. I will always be gratefully for their contribution to my youth.

General / Dredd show-runner or not
05 October, 2020, 02:48:58 PM
This topic has been mentioned, talked about slightly being debated about but: do Dredd need a show-runner?  I personally do not mind the multiple writers contributing towards the strip. I like the different perspectives and different story-lines.

When Wagner was the writer off Dredd there was no need for someone to decide the direction of the strip, Wagner was in control and did his thing.  We all know that Wagner is not going to do Dredd forever. I cannot remember year that the prog did not have a Dredd strip written by Wagner. Whom can fill his boots?
So, the question show-runner or not and whom can take this forward?
