is tipping Dredd to be one of the movies of 2012. Any kind of publicity is good I suppose.

COMMANDO FORCES

Better to be in the most read paper in the country than some old rag like the Guardian that's read by a few dozen bods, if you want reach a larger audience  :D

They're all tapping into the strength of Charlie Brooker type presentation in nouveau-media journalism. AZ and his late night pop review is exactly the same; man at coffee table aves mug and laptop seminally ranting about his chosen archetype.

Maybe he just wants in.

I think to have DREDD a fairly small/medium budgeted Film mentioned along side the larger 'Summer Blockbuster' type of Movies in the biggest selling Newspaper in the Country can at the very least raise awareness. Got to be a good thing surely?

The Guardian is a smaller Paper but none the less it has a pretty strong Media identity and frankly if DREDD was mentioned in it I think I'd be even happier. The Guardian has a very strong Art and Culture section so having DREDD considered by it would be great.

Judge Dredd 's greatest dilemma I always felt was this: In a World gone to Hell if the choice was between Anarchy and Fascism which would you choose? Does Security trump freedom or the other away around and that surely must be he story of our time something that everyone, no matter what their Personal belief system can discuss.

We want as many people as possible talking about the forthcoming DREDD Flick so hopefully the Guardian Media Journalists, who probably like something a little bit different from the usual Film fare will see in DREDD something worth publicizing.

I'm expecting at least a few cover features in the Sunday supplements this year - what with the 35th anniversary and the Dredd movie coming out.

Anyone remember the one from the 30th anniversary? Think it was in the Independent or Observer.

Dredd
AFTER the much criticised – but not nearly as bad as people said – 1995 version, 2000 AD's comic book anti-hero Judge Dredd gets a reboot. Sly Stallone is out and Karl Urban is stepping into his boots.

A few recent rumours about problems on set hopefully don't mean that the quality of what has been promised as a much darker movie than its predecessor has been affected.

And this time, the helmet stays on.

To be fair, Brooker didn't invent this, or even make it popular.  During his time as a Sun hack in the mid-90s, Gary Bushell pretty much made this schtick his own on late-night ITV1, ranting to a camcorder in his living room about everything from his love of 70s heavy metal music to why the Highlander tv show wasn't as good as it used to be.  He was actually okay at it, too, until you realised that ITV were editing out all the racism and homophobia and that Bushell was and remains a cunt.

The sight of Bushell sucking up to a bunch of fox hunters was what put him near the top of my 'first against the wall when the revolution comes' list.

What is interesting about Bushell is that he has very similar dimensions to Ian Hislop, who remains the holier than thou prat he's always been and worsening as he gets older. They're like twins on either side of good and bad, zealot, idealistic journalism.

"Hey Berzerker ... sorry, confused. Are you complaining due to my less-than-positive views on the original Judge Dredd?

I can't wait to see the new version as I've been a 2000AD fan since my early teens, provided of course, that it is a decent piece of film-making."

I love genre movies, hence this column.
