That's true, but movie adaptations only seem to create sales 'blips', in which numbers spike during the time of the film's release, but then overall sales seem to slip back to roughly their previous position after a relatively short time.

the film hasn't been released yet.

Watchmen is a consistent best seller every year, and anyway it's a finite story you only have to buy once. You can't compare it to monthly comics or even 2000ad in terms of sales increases.

Didn't Bob Harras supposedly get sacked at Marvel for failing to capitalise on the success of the X-Men film? I'm sure I read something along those lines at the time.

not to the levels it is now and all because of expectation for the film.

Because it's a book that you can buy in Waterstones, and every time a new photograph of the film comes out the internet goes mental.
I doubt many Dark Knight fans are going to their local comic shop and placing a regular monthly order for Batman and Detective Comics.

Quote from: "Godpleton"Waking Life is an utter abomination, and watching makes me embarrassed that I was a philosophy student.
I coerced my then girlfriend into going to see that with me. It took the entertaining bullshit of Slacker and a really cool visual style and boiled them up into a big pot of tedious shit. I didn't know where to look when it'd finished.

Quote from: "Godpleton"Am I right in claiming that the current boom in comic adaptations has had very little effect on comic sales?
Not necessarily, they can't seem to print enough copies of Watchmen and it seems to be outselling it's 80's "heyday" print numbers.
Watchmen is a specific story that you can go and buy a book of and be sure that (irrespective of the adaptation) it'll have something in common with the film. Most comic films seem to take a particular "classic" view of the character or storyline which bears little relation to the array of titles the character currently appears in.

Also, why should liking it in one medium necessarily make you want to see it in another? For example, I loved the Iron Man film and I like comics, but I have no intention of ever buying an Iron Man comic, just as I'm never going to read the book There Will Be Blood was based on and I never understand why people have such a desire to see 2000AD stories they like turned into films or tv series.

Transmit that meme as Richard Dawkins, god of all biological determinists once said or wrote. Here's an idea I think is good -what do you think type of thing. (Some irony was intended in that first line.Spot the irony and win-nothing what so ever.)

"Never, bloody anything, ever." Vivian from The Young Ones-now that's a philosophy!

Rightly or wrongly, Comic book movies would appear to legitimise the source material and I'm all for one that can legitimise my beloved character Judge Dredd or 2000ad as a whole.
The more movies based on 2000ad the better, as long as it spreads the word and increases readership.

I have a vague theory that the work of John Wagner - Dredd specifically - will one day gain the wider appreciation and recognition it deserves - and a decent movie adaptation would be a step in that direction.

Soz to butt in, but i thought i heard talk of a directors cut of the original movie, and that several endings were shot?

There are some other threads discussing this very subject, but I'm afaid I wouldn't know where to look. As I've read it, there was around 30 minutes of running time removed from the 1995 Dredd movie, whether it still exists is a different matter.
With the news of a new Dredd movie on the way, now would seem a good time to think about issuing a special edition of the first Dredd movie.

Would anyone buy it? Could anyone sit through more of it? You're dead right though, now, or very soon, is the time for those money grabbing bar-stewards to try their usual tricks - I reckon it'll be in a tin box - they usually do that when they know they're ripping you off.
