Comic Book Punks: How a Generation of Brits Reinvented Pop Culture - Hardcover 352 pages, 21st November 2023

"The influence of the comic book has never been greater, from movies to streaming and beyond, but the journey comics took from little-regarded kids' magazines to literary prize-winning books and global franchises turned on a highly unusual group of writers and artists. Few would have expected a small gathering of British comic book fans and creators in the early 'seventies to be a global cultural pivot-point, but this was the start of a disparate movement of punks, dropouts and disaffected youths who reinvented a medium and became the imaginative heart of a global success story.

Based on years of interviews with a generation of leading writers, artists and editors, Karl Stock reveals the true story of the wild times, passion and determination that helped, hindered and saw the reinvention of comics.

Stock brilliantly tells the story of the triumphs and disasters that rewrote the rulebook on what comics could be and who they should be for."

Announcements / Helltrekkers - Released December 2023
22 January, 2023, 06:31:45 AM
Helltrekkers: Webshop Exclusive (Hardback) - Hardback, 6th December 2023

"They were the new frontiersmen-men and women who hated life in Mega-City One so much that they were willing to travel 2000 kilometres across the radiated desert known as the 'Cursed Earth' in order to start a new life. The chances of reaching the new territories are slim - the hostile environment is full of danger, including acid rain downpours, killer viruses, mutants and herds of hungry dinosaurs! To increase their chances of survival, Helltrekkers set off in large convoys. But sometimes fellow travellers can cause just as many problems as the threats from outside!

"Written by John Wagner and Alan Grant, The Helltrekkers is a monumental survival story and one of the earliest Dreddverse spin-off strips."

Interestingly, both Amazon UK and The Book Depository are listing this as the 'webshop exclusive' version.  I'm assuming they'll actually be selling the paperback version, but that otherwise the details will be identical and therefore reliable to flag here.

I love this Haynes manual type cover.  If that's the webshop exclusive cover, I'll be getting this from the webshop!  And Tharg, that might even make a good t-shirt, mug or notebook.

This was posted on Reddit.  I thought someone here might be able to help:

"I started reading 2000ad and Judge Dredd as a kid in around 1990, when a friend at school brought along a couple of progs and an annual from '86 (I think). Immediately fell in love with it. In one of the progs there was a short story where Dredd went into a block where a bunch of mutants had taken over a gymnasium. After taking care of most of them, Dredd comes face to face with the biggest of the mutants, who seems to be impervious to the shots from his lawmaker. So of course, he proceeds to drive to the end of the swimming pool, revs up his lawmaster, and ramps over the diving board, igniting the booster rockets (yes), and impales the mutant with the bike, diving of the bike at the last minute into the pool. The art was epic, and the story was brutal and to the point, classic Dredd. Can anyone please help me find the story / prog? Cheers!"

He's since said his timing is probably wrong but that he strongly remembers Dredd using his bike to spear the big EOLM baddy.

I thought even if it's actually from some non Dredd thing someone might know.
