No idea why people are moaning about the cover. Is it striking? Yes. Is it well-drawn? Yes. What the fuck else do you want from a cover?!

I don't like it because I'm really not that impressed with what it's all about & find it quite contrived. I am allowed my opinion I take it, if I don't insert a swear word of my own for effect?

Anyone is at liberty to like or dislike anything they damn well please, and I apologise for the (unintended) implication that they aren't, or that they shouldn't express their opinion as they choose.

But.

There's a world of difference between "I dislike this cover because I don't care for the strip it represents" or "I dislike this cover because I find the basic concept behind it daft" and "This cover is awful".

I was arguing that by some fairly objective criteria —is it striking?* Is it well-drawn?— it passes the requirements of a successful cover. That doesn't preclude people disliking it, and nor should it, but it doesn't make it a terrible cover.

Cheers

Jim

*Single element, well composed, easy to discern at distance.**

** No, I'm not suggesting that this is the only way in which a cover can be striking.

More a matter of partial ambivalence than real dislike. The art is nicely done and the colours are attractive. It just isnt my thing really. Lots like it and fair play to them. Z

Not that keen on the cover myself. It is well drawn and striking, just not that keen...difficult to say why.

Won't miss the 3riller and Survival Geeks isn't really to my taste but it's well drawn and has energy and pace.

There's enough there in Dredd, the Order and Savage to keep me happy though. It may sound strange, but the artwork in Dredd is almost too good though (what nonsense is this..) in that each panel is such a wonderful thing in itself that I find it somewhat hampers the flow of the story. Not really a criticism, more of an observation.

The Order barrels along brilliantly and I'm enjoying the Hammersteins in Savage.

Really pleased to see the tribute to Brett Ewins in the editorial.

My problem with Savage is that he is ridiculous.
He is, after all, merely an emotionally stunted lorry driver with no real military or espionage experience. Him being the person the government turn to to as some kind of expert in security is just ludicrous.

Just wot that geezer Richmond said. Z

I don't have a drinking problem.  I drink, I get drunk, I fall over.  No problem!

...prior to the Volgan invasion. I'd say he's gained more than a bit after eleven solid years of guerilla warfare.

Can comment on the cover as my prog soaked through when it arrived like some hedgeporn  :o

Anyone awaiting Tharg's comments on a submission should read Damage Report  :D

Dredd's Stallone style one liners grate an otherwise enjoyable tale.

Geekfest is enjoyable as is  3hriller. The other two do nothing for me.

3 out 5, fine with me.
DDT did a job on me

Whot Butch and Jimbo said, Savage has a significantly more interesting story arc as a result of this than many give him credit for.

You would tease me with this when my prog hasn't showed up... haha.

I think I just like buying the prog in a shop. No damage issues etc. Feel for others because I know due to distance a lot of squaxx depend on subscription and the dredded postal service. Z

I thought the cover was a bit of a strange one, too. Arresting, though.

Dredd is still hitting the right buttons for me. Loved the bit where Anderson scoops Fire back out of Joe's brain (terrific frame too). But, like most 80's action flicks at the 90 minute mark, I'm ready for the credits to roll.

Survival Geeks is still terrific, very funny (not so much the geek humour, but the tone of the strip overall), wonderful art, lots of mystery, and a team clearly having fun with what they're doing.

The 3hriller didn't do much for me in the end. A novel idea, and imaginatively drawn, but I took next to nothing away from it.

The Order was no better or worse than last week. Feels like it's got a bit bogged down, to be honest, but still looking forward to the conclusion.

As for Savage, it really got my attention this time around. Mixed narrators, murder, betrayal. Very good indeed.
