Title: Ro-Jaws from 3A
Post by: COMMANDO FORCES on 24 February, 2012, 07:44:53 AM
Just read the latest newsletter from 3A about this old rust bucket and it says:

QuoteMarch will see the release of RO-JAWS in 1/6th mode, a truly classic robot and we are most proud to be able to bring him to you!

Obviously (he says) it will cost less than Mongrol, so more people are in with a shout of buying one of these.

AND MORE PEOPLE WILL DEFINITELY CONSIDER IT. I love Ro-Jaws... *rubbing hands together* but does that love run into triple figures?

Nice!   :D

The unbelievably generous gift of a Mongrol from certain of this parish has only one drawback - he's so popular with the family, and such a talking point with visitors (all of whom have to play with and pose him), that I know I'd have no problem convincing them of the urgent need for a foul-mouthed little companion.  I also know that I should use this great power responsibly.

I'm in the slow-motion process of dry-lining, windowing and wiring-up my brother's lean-to of a garage to serve as an office in an effort to crystallize the scraps of work I'm getting into an actual business, and get off this bloody dole, and am now seriously tempted to postpone the purchase of materials and invest in Ro-Jaws instead.  The kitchen table isn't that bad a place to try to run a business from, right?   ;)

Fingers crossed on the price!

Hello again everyone!

Good to see Ro-J is finally getting closer. Price wise it's hard to say as there's been a slight increase recently. I'm guessing it'll be under 3 ($) figures, but who knows.

I offered before with Mongrol, so I'll offer again for Ro-J: I get discount, so if   I can pick up more than one I'd be happy to help anyone out (either dosh up front, or installments. Anyone need PPI?  ;)). However, it would have to ship to my address first, so there'd be the cost of postage from me to you. Might not end up saving much I suppose, but the offer's there.

Also, there's a Black Hole edition Mongrol coming in 1/12, but it's exclusive to the Hong Kong show in April/May...

That's very tempting, Mikey! I just told my wife a bit about Ro-Jaws and she laughed. I may get away with this one.

Argh. More stuff.

Anyway, thanks for the kind offer, Mikey. As with Tordelback, it will depend on the cost but I just got a little freelance work, so...

Tempting!

Mongrol looks very lonely sat up on my desk...

I honestly expected to regret it when I splashed out on him in a sudden giddy moment of utter madness. I've never really been into figures and statues, and while I knew he'd be a pretty special one, I had a nagging doubt in my heart... all dispelled the moment I took him out of the box. He's just utterly great, and the single best impulse buy I've ever, ever made. The only trouble is that now I feel committed to all seven warriors...

I'm up for picking up multiples if possible and passing along my 15% discount... Give me a shout if interested.  Mikey, if you order one at a time, you can enter a different shipping address for each, avoiding reposting...

I'm in the US now, on my phone, but will report back later.

I thought multiple addresses weren't allowed anymore? Is that just after order? I maybe got the wrong end of the stick, will check it out before anything is finalised...so maybe no extra postage then!

Why's his head a different shade to his body though? That looks a bit odd.

Obviously, I'm talking shite here. I think the release date for MONGROL is April 27th, Ro-Jaws should be just a couple of weeks. Where are the pedants when you need 'em?

Just to clarify further... From the latest 3A VOX:

"RE-VENTURE ( April 27th to May 4th ) the second Hong Kong Venture..."

"Black Hole Mongrol 1/12th will see debut at RE-VENTURE, Classic Mongrol will go onsale at the same time on Bambaland. Let the 1/12th SMUSH begin !"

From that, it looks like 1/12 classic Mongrol will be on Bambaland during the RE-VENTURE period (April 27th to May 4th) while the Black Hole version will only be available directly at the Hong Kong show (unless Ash changes his mind on this, which might happen).

Ro-Jaws is still on for early March.

I'll post more news as it emerges...

Mongrol was $250 (shipping included) from Bambaland, and I think CF was right about £165 for UK-based retail.

No news about price or retail availability for Ro-Jaws, but I'm guessing $120-150; Bambaland is the best option.

I'll try and guide folks through the process when more info emerges.

What is the going rate for a child?  Assuming I srcubbed and (most importantly) gagged mine, surely I'd get €100 for the two?  Blond, blue-eyed, feral charming?  Maybe throw in the wife?  There's a few miles on the clock, sure, but she's quite well-trained by now.

That sounds just possibly do-able.  I'm trying to flog some of my choicer SW tat on eBay at the moment, much depends on the market's tolerance for not-quite-mint packaging...

I've love to see the Hammerstein figure with the Ro-Busters head ... it seems funkier, more 1970s 'sci-fi' than the Arnie Schwartzenegger Terminator-face of the Bisley ABC Warriors. And with a TAX disc so he can share Ro-Jaw's misery at being owned by Howard Quartz.

Ash has said previously that 'you can't play Ro-Busters without Ro-Jaws' so I'm really hoping that translates to Hammerstein coming with two heads... My money's on a classic square-hammered McMahon ABCs version, plus an O'Neill-based Ro-Busters head.

A timely reminder, Mikey!

Check the production blog (http://www.threeaonline.com/blog/) for specific info and the countdown timer to the sale (on the right hand side, but not visible on iPhones and the like).  Sign up for the 3A newsletter via the link at the top here: http://www.threeaonline.com/  That will deliver all the sale info via email before the drop.

Set your alarm, and Prepare thy Paypal!

(shouldn't be a big panic sale, but don't assume this will be up for 24h+, just in case).

Dunk - you still need a Black Hole version?  I'll take care of it, just send me your details (shipping address, etc.) via email / pm.

Blackhole version looks fantastic, much better than the Mongrol BH did.

Got to say I would have bought one if it hadn't been 3AA exclusive - and a bit annoyed at 3A's policy - last year if you took out 3AA for 2000AD stuff all you got was a discount on one offering. It clearly wasn't worth it for 2000AD fans only interested in the 2000AD stuff.

Now Ro-Jaws blackhole is 3AA exclusive with no warning about this at the time 3AA was on its limited-duration sale. No fair.

Fair play to 3A and I had zero complaints over Mongrol's delay etc but really I don't see how this move makes any business sense nor based on the market for 2000AD/3A stuff.

Post by: BPP on 21 March, 2012, 08:41:55 PM
well at least they know it will be a real EXCLUSIVE.. probably get orders for about 10 of the buggers given the niche nature of 2000AD with the existing 3AA base.

God he does look really good in the blackhole colours.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot more interest in Black Hole Ro-Jaws this time around... It might pop up for general sale sometime tomorrow (could happen, you never know), so i might be worth keeping an eye on things.  If anything develops, I'll post news here as soon as I'm able.

Same goes for retailer options (none mentioned, so I'm assuming it's not happening).

Is the 1/12th Mongrol 3AA / convention special only too? I mean that would be seriously fxxked. Had planned on getting the 1/12th line for the missus (who LOVES ABC warriors)

1/12 Black Hole Mongrol looks like it might be an exclusive for an upcoming 3A event in Hong Kong, but might just go on sale there first before general release later (who knows?  Not me, yet).

The regular 1/12 Mongrol should be easy to get, though.

I don't understand this. I have-not really followed these threads apart from drooling at the pictures, but I just might be able to afford this 'un. However, I found the website, and certain comments on here,  mighty confusing. Do I have to join something or sign up beforehand or can i just go to that Bambambalnd page at midnight and, y'know, BUY one?

You need to set up a Bambaland account and have paypal Dan. And Black Hole is a secret club version-not for mere mortals! ;-)

tonight (in a few hours) the GREEN (regular) Ro-jaws will go on sale to everybody. Buy via the 'bamaland' store (see threea site)

at the same time the BLACK (aka Blackhole) Ro-jaws will go on sale to 3AA members only. 3AA is an annual 'club' membership sold in January only via 3A.

Last year you could buy both regular (RED) and blackhole (Black) Mongrols without being a 3AA member.

Title: Re: Ro-Jaws from 3A

mongrol was on sale for approx 24hours

some 3A stuff sells out very quick and is definitely not around for 24 hours.

So its a 'you takes your chance' sorta thing.

Ro-Jaws will appear on the Bamba site for the duration he is on sale - not a second more / less.

So thats why the store looks 'empty' atm

Wonder if Ash knew he'd be selling a Ro-Jaws with a big TAX on it the night after the budget.

I was very undecided as to whether I could afford to splash out on Mongrol, so I left it in the hands of fate - went to bed at the normal time, and thought 'if there's any left in the morning, I'll get one.' There was, so I did - but now I'm commited to all 7+ warriors!

Just the seven figures, I tell myself, just the seven. Ro-Jaws too, if he isn't counted as one of the seven. But if there was a 3A Nemesis and Torque, I'd really have to get them too, wouldn't I? It's all very much part of the same 'verse, after all. So that would mean I was comitted to a Purity Brown as well; Candida; Uncle Baal...

It quickly snowballs.

well it's too late now. Came to £71.60 when converted by the way. My only concern is that it under shipping it said "online delivery/no shipping" and the cost was $0.00 - surely it's not free shipping? Or will i have a nasty surprise later?

Probably Joe Pineapples next (expect the classic O'Neill / McMahon version).

As for the 'orders are not transferable to third parties', I read that as meaning you can't request a switch of address to someone else after the order is placed, but that it should be okay to order for someone else in the first place (at least that's what I'll be doing).

As it's possible to get two Black Hole Mongrols per 3AA account, anyone here needing one should speak up - I'm sure any 3AA boardies here will be willing to help out...

Mrs Albion: "I really like that."

Me: "So do I. Not sure about spending £70 on one. There are so many other things I want to get."

Mrs Albion: "I'll give you something towards it for your birthday."

Me: "You shouldn't have said that. I want one even more now!"

This morning I ordered one.  :)

My first 3A purchase and I suspect that it won't be the last either.

sale details said july

Mongrol was ETA for august - arrived...err  november I think?

At the time there was talk from 3A that they would try and have Ro-Jaws ship alot quicker than the delay between sale / shipping on Mongrol. However at the same time 3A's head honcho signs off on every production batch and has a history of scrapping builds / packaging due to dissatisfaction - I think Mongrol was partly delayed because his packaging wasn't acceptable (and it IS lovely packaging).

So, ya know.... whenever is the answer. Hopefully July. Best be chilled about it all.

Yeah, shipping is always an estimate but there was talk of only putting stuff up once they were ready to be assembled, painted etc, so I live in hope as always! One thing that might go in favour of a quicker shipping is that I reckon Ro-Jaws wouldn't have sold the shed loads that other lines seem to...

I'd rather have him done right and get him in hand later than have him shipped earlier with some quality control issues...  Will be interesting to see if any pre-made / part-made figures speed up the shipping, though.  The 'shipping in July' estimate should be taken with a pinch of salt, but could be accurate - just don't panic if there's a delay.

Hammerstein next, presumably - or maybe Rogue will slip out in front?

As it was my Birthday on the 20th*, I thought of it... but decided against. Running low on finances at the moment (I bought a Kobo Touch earlier this month for around the same price).

I might get the 1/12 Mongrol though, depending on price. Despite the fact it should be more in my price range than the other I think the size would suit me and my dinky room better too. The big 'un is a fantastic thing though.

No production numbers are announced these days.  The fact that Ro-Jaws is still up is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned - gives more people chance to pick up Ro-Jaws than the usual 24-hours-or less (how long was Tharg up for?  One hour?).

In the queue... Just behind mine.

I'll ask for an update in a mo (no guarantee I'll get one, but hey).

Just so you know, the 'estimated shipping' dates are just that; estimates.  Specifying a month is usually asking for trouble; there's been a move to which quarter of the year stuff is expected to ship (but again, things overshoot all the time).  Anyway, better late and done right than fast and crappy (and far, far better than not at all).

He is in my hands being touched right now and he's tiny but quite solid. I'm trying to imagine the 1/12 version!

are you talking about ro-jaws?

You do know that under my orders 3A are sending you empty boxes that weigh the same as the ones with the figures in. The best bit about this is that you will NEVER know

Unlike some lunatics who don't even open their parcels, I have opened mine and here he is with his shit and a 50p, so you can tell how big he is. There is only one problem, his mouth doesn't open and close, so there goes my advent calendar idea  :'(

They should both move ok - mine are stuck on both sides. It'll be paint lock or somesuch, you could either force it or leave it for a while and it will usually correct itself.

Fuckin Ro-Jaws! Anna turd!

I found that the shovel hand is a bit loose on mind. Not too fussed, but it doesn't really hold the wait of the turd. And it falls off pretty easily too.

Quick question for those who have one: Are his arms connected by ball joints at the shoulder or are they fixed solid?
Title: Re: Ro-Jaws from 3A
Post by: Steve Green on 11 August, 2012, 05:01:14 PM
They seem to be fixed, but they may just be very stiff - the rest of the arm is a series of ball joints.

Yay! And then there were two!

The picture doesn't really do justice to how good a figure he is. He's great fun, too - maybe even more so than Mongrol, who although a mightyly impressive model isn't really quite so easy to get down and have a play with. And he doesn't need a massive cosmetic overhaul like the Smushmesiter either, although I couldn't resist making a few little additions...

As of today I have a normal Green and a Blackhole Edition Ro-Jaws sitting on my work desk.

They will now engage in a desperate spade and poo flinging fight to the death with the winner staying in the open and the loser getting re-boxed.

The Blackhole Edition has a nicer finish, a streak down his front like he's pissed his pants and reaks of white spirit.

I think we have an apt winner.

Oh my oh my.  One family unboxing later and my youngest is rolling Ro-Jaws about the living room shouting 'Knickers!'.  Beautiful is the wrong word, but Tubal Cain surely knocked the u-bend right off this particular kludgey.

Many thanks to the glorious Ming, who secured this magnificent example of British Leymek design for me, and was far from Merciless as he patiently waited while I sold my arse round the back of a Bilderberg meeting to dredge up the necessary emouluments.  Blimey but Stephen Harper doesn't half sweat buckets for such a tall bloke.  Je ne regrette pas rien.

I swear I'll stop after Hammerstein.

...Aaaand I broke my robot.  :'(

I was putting his pincer hand into its traditional V-position and one of the blades just came away in my hand. The point of the break is so microscopically thin that I can't imagine how even a decent epoxy would hold it, but maybe if I back it with some thin perspex or similar.  Either that or Ro-Jaws will have to graduate to the one-finger salute.

Let this be a warning to fellow Fred 2-L operators: the pincer is very, very delicate.

Cool: My Ro-Jaws has just arrived! It's a nice figure, solidly made. Looks great.

Not-quite-so cool: Had to pay a €20.67 customs charge, plus a €6 post office handling fee. There's a chance this wouldn't have happened if whoever posted it hadn't marked it as a gift instead of a sample of merchandise, thereby raising the suspicious of the customs people. So I can't see myself buying any more 3A figures from that crowd. Grr.

Still, nice enough toy!

Sorry to hear about the Customs Mike. 3A information flow being what it is, you had no way of knowing this but on Bambaland, there's a 'Special Instructions' box where you can request how your package is marked etc. Or you email 3A Customer Service after the sale. It's no guarantee Customs won't scoop it, but as a Droid I imagine if you got it marked as a merch sample you can argue it's work related. It says something that either Ming, Wellsy or meself have to pass this on to people, but if you're tempted by something else at least you know now! The hoops they place are sometimes invisible.

Don't hold your breath for the 1/12 this year, there's been no word on it at all as yet. Things seem to move awfully slow on the 2000ad line then pop up without much warning. News as and when there is any will be spread...

That's because those BH Mongrols are the 1/12 scale versions - there's more of them because they were released a lot more recently.

PANIC OVER! He's finally* here and he's just luvly <sniff>. He still has that new droid smell. Those shoulder joints do pop out easily though, and there's a loose 'bit' rattling round inside him, but this is my first 3A model and the quality is just out of this world - love the tires, the pincers, the hatch, everything.

Had one thought about Ro-jaws's actual design though (in real life, you understand) - every time he braked hard he'd likely go over face forward into the stomm ... or maybe that's part of the design? ... hmmm.

*to be fair, the packaging had several dates with n/a next to them, so I think they've been trying to deliver for a while, bless 'em - the advantage of not having an outside letter box to drop a card through!

Is there even going to be one? 1/12 Ro-Jaws would be teeny! The poo would only be one centimetre across, and the pincer mechanism almost impossibly small! Do they even make screws that tiny? I think he might be one of the few who we never see in 1/12.

They do make tiny toys with tiny screws, Jimbo-the 'Action Portable' ones, if I wasn't on me phone I'd post pics.

As Ro-Jaws isn't awfully articulated he might be relatively easy to do at the smaller scale.
