As is often the way, I enjoyed this prog of second episodes even more than last week's openers.  Everything has settled in nicely, although I could definitely have managed another episode of that wonderful Dredd.

#metoo. The second eps of 4/5ths of the stories are better than the 1st.

I wonder if taking The Long Walk is now more the equvalent of retiring to the country. Gerhart out amongst in the Townships is something I want to see – Tharg, resurrect that Badlander idea from the Judge Dredd fortnightly?

If you look carefully at the two SJS Judges leading away a prisoner on the first page of the Dredd story you'll see they are called Diffring and Nesbitt..

I'm assuming they are named after Anton Diffring (Rent-a-Nazi to the British film industry in the 50s, 60s and 70s) and Derren Nesbitt who both appeared in the action film Where Eagles Dare.

A question about Kenton Sternhammer... is his lack of nose a mutation he got from his mother or is it the result of some sort of violent incident?

I think it's a mutation. As it's my understanding only mutants can be SD agents. In fact, I've always assumed Wolf was never an actual Strontium Dog due being a non mutant human. I don't recall him ever having a badge. He was just Johnny's partner.

THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK

The thrill power renaissance continues apace. Best set of strips since Hope/Kingdom/Kingmaker/The Order just over a year ago.

Cover: Lovely, subtle but striking use of colour and brush texture. Nice emphasis on the chain and the strip light reflections are fantastic. Shame about the slightly unsympathetic typfaces/setting.

Dredd: This is great stuff, really getting into - oh. It's over. Ah well, here's to a swift continuation. Perhaps a bit continuity-heavy for a jumping-on story would be my only complaint, despite the efforts to fill us in on Gerhart's history.

Jaegir: Top thrill. Exposition nicely framed within action. Love the way Simon Coleby draws expressions showing through the Nort suit fabric stretched across the characters' faces.

SinDex: Boom, tish!

Anderson: Hmm. Echoing others' thoughts (pun intended) that it's going a long way back continuity-wise. What with the reappearance of Lamia recently it's like Psi judges are returning from the dead. Also yes, the narrative is a little clumsy in places. And I see David Roach is getting a bit sixth form porn fantasy again with the Anderson astral projection panels. Still, it's a good read.

Strontium Dog: Ah, John Wagner is a joy to read when he's on this form. The attempted hijack, and the "I thought you would be larger" routine on the last page... he's simply one of the funniest writers in comics.

Another excellent Prog, with the Megazine as well I'm likeing everything so far this month.

Dredd exceptional and loving the retro-Strontium Dog.

My eyes are full of thrills.

Cracking progs... sad to see the Dredd close so quickly but  I suppose that's the price for the meticulous art. Sin Dex was reliable as ever. And funny. Anderson has me intrigued but unusually where there is also an excellent Wagner/Ezquerra Stront, it's Jaegir that is top thrill. Brilliant stuff.
Be excellent to each other. And party on!

DrJomster

Very nice prog. Top quality all round and a great cover.

Great couple of progs since the last jump-on.  I liked the previous line-up, though there could have been more of a mix of longer-run and short-run stories.

Every page of every story is top-quality work. I loved every panel, but my favourite part was the cameo by Judge Slocum, still pickled after all these years!

Aye, I think you do have to be a mutie - hence the fuss about the Ikans during the Life and Death storyline, being off-worlders instead and evidence if how the modern Doghouse has let standards slip.

The prog gives itself a shake and comes back to life  :)

Don't know what the (Jack?) Ruby Easter egg in Dredd means, is it a clever parallel ref? With glorious detailed Weston art like this it's nice to linger over...

Jaegir & Strontium Dog are the other highlights for me.

Since nothing's perfect, I didn't get along with Anderson, these pstories don't do much for me and the cover looks extremely rushed (sorry). Anderson floating around out-of-body style is hard to take even psemi-pseriously.

Yes, I noticed that but couldn't remember if Slocum was SJS at the time?  Is there any additional significance to his preservation in an SJS court?

Tjm86

no.  just a historical reference to geek out us oldies.

Steve Green

Other than that, it would fit in with the self-flagellating atmosphere of the SJS.

Slocum was a member of the SJS under control of Cal.

Considering Cal was a madman who nearly wiped out the whole city, it serves as a reminder of their failure there.
