Title: Prog 2128 - The Kid who would become the King of Cool
Post by: broodblik on 24 April, 2019, 01:46:18 AM
Staz Johnson delivers a great cover with Max casting a shadow over whom he will become

Dredd continues to deliver. Mark Sexton art's strong linework gives us a great visual impact on the storyline. The story continues to evolve with again a small cameo by Dredd.

Scarlett Traces covered by yellow, orange and red colouring from D'Israeli. His artwork is again the highlight of the story. The invasion of Earth has begun and this time no virus to safe our bacon.

We get more on how Normal became Normal. This time around the story focus more on Max when he was young.

We have a new talent on TFC duties, and she delivers on the story. The story reads like we have done this before but ends with a nice twist at the end.

Kingmaker the highlight of the prog.  Leigh's art just gets better every week. T
he battle does not last long as Crixus meets his father. We get some more on his family's back story
.

This was a great prog and nice to see some new talent introduced.

Bank holiday must be playing havoc. I still don't have mind – can't remember the last time it didn't arrive before a Wednesday!

Still waiting for mine as well. This must be the first time the cover art has changed on the homepage before I got my prog.

Nosho here as well.  Should have picked up the copy in Smiths on Saturday.  Not sure if it is BH delay or creative posting (our new post is adopting a creative approach to community integration, posting letters randomly and getting residents to go and talk to their neighbours ...)

It's time for a rhyme. Max attacks snacks something something ah never mind. Let's just say that Max Normal story is beautifully done and is the best part of the prog.

My close second is Scarlet Traces, which is a treat in its every panel. I love my prog!

One thing that does strike me about Scarlet Traces - admittedly having only read the last second part of the last chapter (progs 2023-2034) - is that, despite striking images like the one on this week's cover, there seems to be a distinct lack of war-waging Martian tripods

Dear Tharg, next prog can we have Walter The Wobot and Lorna Varn from Death Planet riding Tyranno-Mek out of Ro-Busters through the forest of living trees in chapters 7 and 8 of the Dan Dare lost Worlds saga, while Grobbendonk pelts them with munce?

Hmmm. another progless day .... Things keep up like this, next week's prog is going to be here first.  To say that this is unusual is a bit of an understatement.  Considering the number of us still missing it, it does seem that someone might have buggered up dispatch.

It would be nice if someone from Rebellion could look into this. Do they monitor the forum any more?

Having recently commented on the forum that I generally get my prog fine each Saturday and if not then latest Monday...I, of course, still haven't recieved mine either! :o

I did also comment that Rebellion was very good at sending a replacement on the rare occasion it went astray and they've done so again on this occasion.  Hopefully it'll turn up this Saturday along with 2129...

Must be the holidays. Progress here too. Mine mostly arrives on a Saturday. Vanishingly rare for one to arrive this late – it's probably happened three times in a decade.

Still nothing here either. I haven't asked for a replacement as there are so many of us missing the prog I figure it must be a dispatch issue. On the very few occasions (maybe three times in the last decade) that I've asked, Rebellion have been brilliant at sending a new copy out.

I phoned up Katie Droid , from Subscribers to chase up my missing Prog , she says it should arrive
on Friday , due to 4 days Bank Holiday delays over weekend - I am not hopeful  .

I have a sub to both, but I prefer reading the paper prog first-time around. If it's not arrived by the time 2129 does though, I'll have to read it digitally.

Digital, baby!

And an enjoyable prog it is too. Glad I went back and concentrated on DREDD as it is an intriguing tale with fab art.

Kingmaker and Scarlet Traces also great stuff. Wasn't so keen on the Future Shock but Max normal is the highlight of the prog.

My prog arrived today!

And a pretty good prog it was too. The non-Dredd, Dredd story is interesting but really made by the art from the Sexton droid, absolutely superb.

Scarlett traces and Kingmaker are going great guns.  I'm not normally a fan of Cornwell but his art suits the Max Normal strip and it's an involving tale.

The Future shock wasn't great, but I suppose very few are. The art from Tharg's newbie suffered a bit following on from Cornwell, whose inks are loose and very clearly inked with physical ink.  The art looked 'very digital' in comparison, the rooms and buildings looked like they were made up on a grid. Quite an attractive style though when drawing the curved lines. Oddly shaded noses though...

As they said in Alex, worth waiting for!

So okay having to wait until Friday breaks an old souls heart... then you read the comic and realise you get to read something this good tomorrow as well!!!! - well with any luck and a good wind behind the postie.

That was such fun.

Dredd twists into a nice new direction and this episode leveled up this story.

Scarlet Traces - bloody hellfire (or martian fire) that was a thrilling thrill and no mistake.

Max Normal was a joy again and that final page and that final panel - wow what a way to take the story - just brilliant.

Okay the Future Shock lacked an ending with any punch but it was fun enough idea and in Anna Morozova Tharg has another great artist in his oil queue now it would seem.

Kingmaker Kingthriller more like.... okay that's crap how about Thrillmaker... okay that's crap too BUT this story isn't its BLOODYGREAT.

Let's do it again in the morning huh Tharg baby, lets do it again and let's do it just as good.

Not a bad page in this week's prog, under a beautifully detailed cover. Everything works, everything is interesting, everything looks absolutely gorgeous. Hard to single out any one particular highlight, but I do continue to be surprised by how compelling Max Normal is: another one to add to the rather short lIst of *good* prequelesque spinoff strips (I appreciate that it's actually set in the 'present', but you know what I mean). Future Shock also good, nicely paced and well-defined setting, and Droitwich Life made me snigger. Everything else: also yum.

As Indigo is pointing out it is currently part of a bundle. You will have to wait for the release date to get as an individual item.

Is the rejuve mention in Dredd a reference to the full-body job he has in the Megazine a little while back? Is it the same facility?

Decent prog, Max Normal developing into the great Thrill you'd hope for given such a great character. Guy Adams always entertains and outside of Rok this feels like the best Cornwell art yet. Satisfying stuff.

The other strips look fantastic, stories treading water a bit for me. Exception was the Future Shock, many are overly twisty-turny but this one was the better for being more straightforward.

If you are still missing a prog, I recommend contacting the subs droids - subshelp@2000adonline.com (http://subshelp@2000adonline.com)

I did exactly that last week and the replacement was on the mat within 48 hours. A superb piece of work.

I'm playing catch up, but I have to say this was a very enjoyable prog indeed. I was curious to see what was driving four pages of comments, but now I see it's delivery woes and not stories. Hopefully all was back to normal the following week! When I see next week's comments, I'll know!

Btw - I wouldn't mind seeing a follow up to the future shock, if that's ok.

Good work, droids!
