Delighted to see this out there at last - it's been a huge labour of love for all involved, and I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of it. There are probably enough anecdotes from the making of it to fill another Comic Archive alone, but my favourite was the last-minute intervention of Dez Skinn with a brutal (but fair) proof-read that picked up on the finest of details. Hopefully we managed to squash every mis-used em and en dash he spotted - I'll be seeing the damn things in my sleep for at least another month!

Mary & David - a quick question in relation to this title.
I have the previous Comic Archive issue, 'Beyond 2000' (which is awesome, by the way).
Does 'The Fleetway Files' have additional info in relation to 2000AD itself - or is it more focused on other Fleetway titles? (I couldn't find a 2000AD logo on the cover, so I'm assuming tooth takes more of a back seat this time around?)
Saying that, even if the 2000AD content is minimal - I'll probably still purchase it to find out more about that era! :)
Very little 2000 AD content, it focuses on 2000 ADs stablemates. I don't think you will be disappointed.
ordered - I've bought a few HB titles and never been disappointed - great production values and an obvious deep love and knowledge of the materiel.
I won't bore anyone with a detailed review-just buy it. Money so well spent.

I don't think I'm speaking out of turn here, but re: P&P:
It's expensive to ship from Ireland in general, and has only become more so over the last couple of years. A combination of rising postage costs from RoI and the weight of this particular release bumped the P&P up this time, but as far as I'm aware the P&P charged to buyers is actually *less* than what David is paying per issue shipped though, so there is an attempt to mitigate that for customers.

No worries! I appreciate where you're coming from - I hate getting hammered for extra P&P on things like eBay where it's sometimes used to make up for a lower price etc. Hope you enjoy the book when it arrives!
It goes without saying after all my previous posts praising the quality of Hibernia books, but this has been ordered without hesitation.

Ordered already, but thought I'd chip in and mention it to try and inject a sense of urgency to anyone sitting on the fence like I did with Hibernia's It's Ghastly and then found the bastarding things had sold out. Rebellion may or may not have their own plans for a lot of this material, so you may grab it while you can.

Amstor is spot on with the postage, with size of the book, the price increase on postage and the fall in value of sterling to euro, it has hiked up the postage this round by about 50%, blame it on Brexit :lol:
Well its landed and while it will be a while until I'm able to say I read it there's a good reason for that. Its a monster. A bloody beautiful monster. Heavens knows how long it will take me to read through this, it took me all lunch to just flick through it!
It also looks great, a wide variety of content, but all nicely themed. I have to be honest if I compare the money I've spent on this to the money I could have spent on Comic Scene (if I hadn't picked it up for nowt at FCDB) and there really isn't much comparison. The Fleetway Files just looks the business and well worth the money I spent (not that much, especially when you consider postage. Can't wait to get stuck in.

Glad it's going down well! David was very patient with my faffing with title page designs and layout tweaks, and I hope the design gels well with the content. I did rather enjoy getting the chance to do an Empire of the Sun pastiche with characters from the IPC humour comics... :-)
Barrie comes across as a thoroughly decent, slightly bonkers editor and someone who had a real knack for promotion. Earnest and quirky, very much like the characters and comics he had a hand in. I loved the details about the old Fleetway offices, with their luxurious offices, and the specifics about hand towels...

Reading through a few more of the excellent features, it's difficult to find an IPC/Fleetway executive who doesn't count the success of their Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles cash-in title as a personal triumph.

Glad you enjoyed it! My comp copies arrived this morning - thanks, David! - and I'm really happy with how it's turned out. There's always a bit of trepidation waiting to see what the print copies look like (I live in Scotland, while David and the printers are in Ireland, so I work "blind" to an extent) and whether I've made any mistakes during pre-print.
There is one cock-up that will annoy me for ages, but it's unlikely to ever be noticed by anyone but me (somewhere in the book I've used a font one point larger than I should for a single caption - prize if you can spot it ;) ) and the rest of the book is exactly as I'd hoped it would look in print.
Very happy with the look of it, which I hope complements the wealth of material David has written and pulled together, and happy to see it selling so well and being enjoyed.
On to the next one now!
Well its taken me a while but finally finished this the other day - its been my bus read for the last few weeks, a postion greatly reduced in quantity over the last few years as I travel a lot less and listen to more podcasts.
Still its such a solid engaging read that it would have taken me a while to get through in any circumstance - such wonderful value for money. Its funny around the same time I got this I got Comics Scene 1, which at 48 pages cost less but offers significently less bang for your book. The latters scattergun approach, throwing you from theme to theme in short article to short article - and some poor decisions it has a feature on the various artists of Dan Dare with barely any visuals! Mark it as far inferior to this beast. I know it is a different beast but the comparison held up in my eyes.
The Fleetways Files only lacks a solid introduction giving you a grounding in the history, rather throwing you straight into the good stuff. Minor complaint to say the least cos the good stuff is so good and there's so much of it.
Wonderful read and an amazing elevation of the already fantastic Hibernia brand.

For me it was the wonderful recap of the humour comics - I didn't read many of the action/adventure titles as a kid, but this piece brought back many fond memories of the "funnies"
It was a bit of a thrill talking to Bob Paynter Dan, so glad you liked the 'funnies' piece. My earlies comic recollection is of Cor!! and Shiver and Shake annuals, I've always had a soft spot for them , and some of the seriously off the wall stuff contained in them!
