Classic!
Classic!
Tra La La! Tra La La La!
Personally, a lot of the series mentioned are when I was a teenager and was far too interested doing other stuff. But favourites of mine are:
Noggin the Nog (same as Ivor the engine)
The Flashing Blades (Saturday morning TV badly dubbed)
In Scotland we used to have a show called Glen Micheals Cavalcade that used to show lots of cartoons on a sunday afternoon. That was aslo pretty good.
- Yer Slippo
Gotta agree there, these young wippersnappers,
The Flashing Blade, personally I hold that responsible for the PollTax rebellion,
Glen Micheal, Pallidin and Rusty? I remember thinking 'GET OFF and put more cartoons on ya old bar Steward'.
Middenpus
good god i actually remember the first andy pandy & flowerpot men. ahhh & animal magic, ricky ticky tavie the ring tailed lemour at bristal zoo. ahhhh
bag puss, "we will wash it we will ..wotever"
pah, the past is another continent on a small planet on a galaxy far away.
tell you what was good tho' was the wild flowers in the 70's, fields full of them ! I remember wading thru a meadow full of poppies & cowslips & corn flowers, a year later we moved into a nice new barratt house right ontop of where the flowers once grew. pah.
Yeay for Johnny Morris!
"Crumbs Chief". I agree with you guys, but then again I'm biased.
The one prog that immediately springs to mind is Chocky. That was kewl.
THUNDERCATS!
Agree with Ulysseus 31, Star Fleet, Chocky and the majority of whats already been said and I'll raise you a 'Hartbeat' (Tony Hart of course), Morph, The Flumps, Jamie and the Magic Torch, Spiderman, Stig of the Dump and Dramarama...
It is compulsory in discussions of this nature for someone to say this:
Catweazle!
(Ah, jumpers for goalposts....isn't it? etc...)
Ahh, The Flumps.Did anyone else wave goodbye to them at the end of the credits? That was a great programme.I'll raise you The Box of Delights,Marmalade Atkins, and the original Roland Rat Show.
But the best kids TV show was Playschool.
Worzle Gummidge anyone?
"HR stuff and Puff"
Actually it was HR Puff N Stuff
Critter
Hers one piggybacking on James Bond and Get Smart.
Lancelot Link Secret Chimp.
Critter
Link: Monkey Business
Cloppa Castle & Pipkins!!
My lingering memory of Marmalade Atkins was when she was slouched on the sofa reading this.
For the 10% of people that might not know, Marmalade Atkins was played by the sadly missed Charlotte Coleman.
ADE
THE BANNANA SPLIT BUNCH

I thought Chorlton and the Wheelies was a 70's show
does any one remember Childern of the Stones?
I don't quite know if it fits into the right era, but I think Trap Door deserves a mention.
I have a soft spot for Tiswas.
Mainly because I was on it once, and my Dad was in the cage.
The Holy trinity of Camberwick Green, Trumpton and Chigley rate highly as well.
- Steve
"does any one remember Childern of the Stones?"
available on DVD now- and its even better than I hoped- nostalgia sometimes rose-tints the memory
this is class though
My mum, who's a nurse, reckons Johnny Briggs was a top show
Was there show in the UK called 'Dungeon'
Where kids were sent into a artificial system of caves and tunnels where other people were dressed as monsters wating for them inside.
First one out with the tresure was the winner. It was all make beleive.

nice one Johnny i may well look for that one this week dim memorys of it but it left its mark
Remember Johnny Jarvis? I loved it at the time but my memories are vague
The fact that it was on a bit late added to it's appeal and at school there was a select few that were allowed to watch it
Another one I'd like to see again on DVD
Where ye goin' now?
Was there show in the UK called 'Dungeon'What you describe sounds suspiciously like...

I've never had the opportunity to watch this show myself and must have seen preveiw for it on some Variety Life Style program I was watching when I was much younger.
Though, it looks very interesting and I was going to mention that I recall reading about a computer game based on the sam show.
If Hitch-Hikers Gudie to the Galaxy.......

How abot "In to the labyrinth"?
Link: "I DENY YOU THE NIDUS!"
Excellant
< chants >
"rothgo, rothgo, rothgo"
oddly Wiki says Into the Labyrinth and Children of the Stones had stuff in common "The solo voice that sings the haunting theme of Into the Labyrinth is Lynda Richardson, who also sings the main melody line of the Children of the Stones theme. Patrick Dromgoole was the executive producer and Sidney Sager wrote the music for both of these series."
strange they both are shows that spring to my mind
yeah, i remember the eerie "woooaaahhoooo-oo" music from both
quality stuff
This one wasnt a kids programme but i used to sneak out of bed to watch it because i thought it was brilliant

At first I had no idea what shows or show yous were talking about until I looked up 'Children of the Stones'
Anyway, I actually do recall seeing this very episode whilst very young. Strange, I do remember this part where the young boy eating a chocalate bar as he's being driven throught the country side amongst all the stone monoliths.
Does'nt he end up having seisure and passing out or just callapsing when making contact with one of the stones as the story had progresssed.
Don't touch the stones.
Sadly that all I remember but it's a coinincidence that I find it here on you-tube. I'm not sure if there are more of them to watch. It's seems more interesting to watch now as I found it alittle creepy back then.
Link: Children of the Stones.
Whiel, it's not much of kid television show ( I do recall being sent to bed every time this show came on late at night.) and it was more of seventies showwhich died out before the eighties.
I was thinking of the Australain character from the 'The Adventure Game show' that was mentioned earlier and thought he reminded me of a half- baked version of Paul Hogan. Who alot of you, may him know from the 'Crocodile Dundee' films made in America and and Australia. Which is how I think Paul Hogan broke out into the international market and he doesn't even live in Australia anymore.
Link: There should be more of these on You-tube
aul Hogan. Who alot of you, may him know from the 'Crocodile Dundee' films made in America and and Australia.
Useless fact. The Paul Hogan Show (or whatever it was called: basically it was a sketch show starring Paul Hogan) was one of the pillars of Friday night entertainment in the early days of Channel 4 over here.) I remember finding it pretty funny at the age of ten or twelve. I assume this means it was very crude.
For a discussion of childrens TV shows of the eighties, there are an awful lot of 1960s and 1970s shows being mentioned.
The golden era of children's television, you see? By comparison, the 1980s was a barren decade that only produced cartoons that served to sell action figures of He-Men and Ninja Turtles.

It might have sounded less pompous if I hadn't said it twice.
HoU, could you send me an e-mail at paulvonscott@yahoo.co.uk. Cheers. Paul
