I've scanned a few pages from a book and compiled them into a .pdf but I'm having lot's of trouble converting the file to extract the text. I'm wondering if you knew anything about this? I'm on a mac at the moment by the way.
Cheers in advance, nev.

If you want to extract text from an image of a page then some kind of optical character recognition is required. They usually come as part of a scanners software package but there are plenty of free software around.

It can even be done online:

Or I've misunderstood the question.
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

Cheers looks like an OCR is what I need. My in built scanning software is basic to say the least (HP Scan 3 or something) although the file I have is too big for what you sent. I'll have a look along those lines.
