I was pissed off when I missed it and I would have been there online like yourself "CF" to get one if I didn't have to turn up for work, which I'm sure was the case for most hardcore Twoth fans in their 30's & 40's -the core audience with the income and interest for this stuff- so it looks like the whole 3A concept is set up for this kind of shennanigan to happen which is a shame cos it's top notch and what we've always wanted, so why sully it by appeasing the "limited edition" collector mentality bullshit?

ming

I don't think Ash or 3A intend to appease the limited collector bullshit mentality, and if anything steps are being taken to make life harder for the flippers; not releasing run numbers, packaging to prevent splitting-up and eBay resales of multi-pack figures...  In the end though, where there's a demand, this crap will happen - capitalism, as you say.

For now though, we've seen just an initial release of a Tharg for the hardcore faithful, and it's way too early to start bitching or moaning about the way future releases may or may not go down.  I'm hoping that the possible lower interest in the 2000AD line, plus the the lack of multiple variants for at least some figures, might translate into much more open-ended sales... Give it some time and have faith, folks.

Moral of the story: It's not a good idea for such limited supplies or "editions" of these models in the first place. Desired quantities can easily be judged and fulfilled through pre-orders. We don't all have the time to sit on a computer waiting to pounce during the opening of a very short window of oppurtunity on very limited stocks.

WELL SAID!
My thoughts exactly.
...because I hate you.

Those sellers are tossers pure and simple IMO - I'm sure there were a few boarders who could have picked one up but were pipped at the post by these Thrill suckers.

I was lucky enough to bag one as I was working in the office that day. I think this release was literally just for the craic as there had been considerable interest shown already and definately added a buzz to the whole thing.

From what I understand pretty much all the 3A releases are limited to an extent. From the quality produced, I really don't think this limited Tharg was totally cynical but as I said helped create a buzz. There a specialist company so surely that all helps?

If I had missed Tharg I would have been annoyed, but there's a bigger run of 'regular' coming up, which I can't justify buying. That'll be the same for the rest of the line - variants are out for me pretty much, so I hope the first releases are the ones I want! If not, maybe we can have a toothy trade shop...

I wouldn't describe them as tossers at all, it's another way of making money off people who too easily are willing to part with large amounts of it, you can't really chide them for doing it. This type of market has been created because of limited runs. Buying a limited edition of Tharg is the same as buying an ounce of gold or some other commodity at a low price and selling when there's a higher demand, no difference. You can't say who's allowed to buy your products and who's not.

If there had been pre-orders for these figures it would have made more sense. Limited runs are there to create demand, simple as that. It's a business after all but as they say, there'll be more to come so why worry? I have confidence in 3A and there'll be plenty to go 'round.

Twoth fans, generallly, are a sensible bunch who don't suffer fools, a mistake made many times in the past by producers.

There will be a Dredd, probably more than one (regular street, Apocalypse War Dredd, etc.).

Folks, forget about the limited first Tharg drop, please!  The next releases will tell us all we need to know, and the fact Ash was surprised at demand for the first Tharg will probably translate to much easier to get figures next time (hopefully figures that stay on Bambaland for purchase for several days).

Remember - Ash is a fan making these for fans (3A or 2000AD) and wants people to be able to get them.  Sure, there will be some variants that might be hard to get, but it's his gig and really, he can do what he likes - this is not a big company out to make mega-bucks.  If he wants to make people sweat now and again over chasing a figure, it's no big deal and probably won't happen for general release figures (Mongrol, Rogue, etc.)

Limited variants - chase 'em if you need 'em, otherwise just relax.

That's the best advice I can give, actually - RELAX.

;)

COMMANDO FORCES

Relax, don't you know I have a cellar to keep topped up  ;)

The Enigmatic Dr X

My Tharg is coming right out his box and gazing, all mean and moody, down at me.
Lock up your spoons!

COMMANDO FORCES

Does that mean you have yours already. I hope mine arrives before fathers day, otherwise it'll be just a card for me  ::)

The Enigmatic Dr X

Nope. Not get it. But, when I do - he's coming out!

Edit: If I did have him, there would have been a photo or two.
Lock up your spoons!

Slight possibility of a Limited Logo Tharg bargain..?  At least it's not buy-it-now for all your money plus a kidney.

I feel a bit bad posting eBay links here, but at least this has a low starting price so someone might get it cheap.

I would! Sticking them up on Ebay before anyone's actually got them is low IMO. Fair enough point they're making a few dabs, but I'd view it differently if the orders had been recieved and then they wanted to push theirs on. I'm just there for the love dude!
