Yeah, they're definately for those with disposable income,or those with a rabid collector gene! But it's successfully sparked some interest with the 3a crowd-thanks in no small part to Ming, who has relentlessly plugged tooth with his scans and summaries, plus links to where to buy trades.

3a do produce cheaper (1/12) versions of their stuff, so that may appear if the demand is there. They have done releases of stuff fans have asked for and i'd love a set of VCs or Nu Earth troops...

Another morsel from 3A...

'Color pics of Mongrol next week if all goes according to plan!'

That's a nice way of saying it. Another way would be 'people with more money than sense'.
Raised in the wild by sarcastic wolves.

Previously known as L*e B*tes. Sshhh, going undercover...

Pfft! I've probably got more sense than money and it hasn't stopped me!

Oh. I see what you mean.

Well prices for Mongrol and anything that follow are unknown at this point.  $200+ is possible for Mongrol based on what's gone before but we'll see.  He's just over 12" tall and pretty rotund with feck-off huge Power Paws, so he's hardly a small toy.  The detail and paint we've seen from 3A before means that this will be unlike ANYTHING you've seen before.

Specialist product for a specialist market?  Sure, but remember Ashley Wood sought out the license for making 2000AD toys due to his love for the stories and characters and the lack of any toys that do this stuff justice.  Although some kind of cheap, mass-market thing would be nice on some level, the quality would take a big hit and mass-production of tat is not what 3A does.  I know this pisses some people off, but you can't please everyone.

As for prices for 'human' figures later on (Dredd, Rogue, Alpha, etc.) they should come in cheaper (depends on your viewpoint for 'cheap' but it's all relative I guess).  $80 (US) is pretty standard (all prices include worldwide shipping, remember) so that's an expected ball-park for now.

Bottom line: some really great toys of classic characters that might bring the 2000AD world to some for the first time, and help raise the profile of 2000AD in new areas - that can't be a bad thing, right?

Me, I'm patiently waiting for some colour pics of Mongrol.

:)

Yeah. The price seems a lot but in comparison to figures of the same size I've seen elsewhere,(Anything from £120-£250) that's not too bad.

Out of my range though.

You get what you pay for in this instance.

They're not mass produced 5" action figures, like the Doctor Who toys for example, they're large scale(Tharg was 12" plus, Mongrol will most likely be larger) and they are of a very high quality and produced in limited quantities.

The price actually compares very favourably to other figures and sculptures that you'll find in Forbidden Planet.

They're not aimed at the mainstream but serious collectors and as such I feel they're worth supporting, considering the dearth of 2000ad collectables available from other sources.

So bring on Mongrol, the other ABC Warriors, Rogue Trooper and the Judges to come and a big pat on the back to Ashley Wood and team for producing them.

Coincidentally I just had a quick look at and item on FP International Dweezil (before I even read your post) and as way of comparison check out the price of this chap:
Clicky clicky.

And he's essentially a human figure! A very good likeness to the actor though and loads of interchangeable bits and bobs but even so 199.99 (reduced from £229.99!) is a lot (to me, anyway)!

At the same height I think we can argue Mongrol will have a whole lot more mass.

This lass is a good deal cheaper.
But at 129.99 for a human figure, certainly comparable, as you say.

Wow! In comparison the 3A Toys are far more reasonably priced.

I think they are very reasonably priced for what they are. Unfortunately they are still well out of my price range. Would have to be Dredd, Alpha or Nemesis for me to justify it to myself.

Mikey

All in good time James, all in good time!

If there are any particular characters anyone would like to see, make it known on the 3A forum - AFAIR figs have been produced due to fan demand in the past, so you never know. That's a bit down the road though I reckon, as there's already a few in the pipe line that I'm sure will satisfy demand.

As far as price for Mongrol goes, I imagine he might be a bit more expensive than a regular 3A 1/6 robot because he's a completely new thing, but they've released some monster sized ones before now. They do reduce costs as much as possible and I have every faith it'll be value for money - it'll certainly be of very high quality.

SMUSH!

Commando Forces pointed out a problem others may have met looking at the3A forums (i.e. they're apparently in maintenance mode)...  They just moved away from crappy Hyperboards.  New home is here for anyone wanting to keep an eye on developments:

I'll be posting all news here though (or Mikey will).

I'll get a Dredd, Alpha and maybe a Nemesis or Death at $80 (around £50), but please... no limited edition run... let all who want one get one.
