"I now feel strongly that we need to keep people of East Asian origin off British telly."

I don't wish to derail this thread with petty concerns about wording, but whatever happened to the term 'Oriental' to describe people from the Far East?  When did the use of 'Oriental' become unfashionable, impolite or politically incorrect?  Worst of all, why are we copying the Americans by using the word 'Asian', when in the UK, Asian refers to people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc? This confuses the hell out of me, and if my Japanese wife is cool with being described as Oriental, I don't see how it can be offensive to anyone else.   East Asian or Asian-American are such clumsy, unwieldy terms.

Yikes, I forgot The Titan reprints - got boxes full of those in the loft, not to mention The Complete Judge Dredd monthly reprints ( '92 - 97?) and the 80's Eagle American monthlies and, and......

Anyway, thanks Geoff, maybe my wife's right, but...I don't care.

Late to the party, I know, but just bought the Necropolis book.  Stunning! I remember how exciting it was to read this in weekly instalments back in 1990, and now its great to see it all collected in an attractive hardback edition. Necropolis is amongst my most re-read Dredd epics, but flipping heck, I just realized I have the whole story 4 times.(The original Progs, the Megazine reprints, The Complete Case Files 14, and now the Mega Collection version). My wife says this is obsessive behaviour (and other comments too, like 'money to burn') so I'll have to donate that particular Case Files to a local charity shop.  Anyone else suffering from multiple version overdose?

Just seen this at the local flea-pit and.. what a pile of pretentious, indulgent... hah!.. just kidding, I loved it!
A few initial impressions;
Certainly not for everyone - a surreal, bizarre, bonkers adaptation of JGB's novel which many may find all show and no substance (and in part it makes little sense) but I stopped trying to rationalise and instead enjoyed the heady, decadent '70's vibe, and the lovely/grotesque images and music.
Smoking, (practically every character sparks-up constantly - like an episode of UFO) bonking and ABBA in abundance! (not to mention the very brief glimpse of a comic a lot of us use to read before 2000AD came along, and at times in the flick, I'm reminded of a certain Peach Trees city block).
Hiddlestone was particularly impressive, but why does every Reece Shearsmith role sound exactly like Ollie Plimsolls?
Colourful, violent, disturbing and dream-like, not one for dog-lovers.

I'd like to give a more in-depth/sensible response to this film, but alas, Friday night is drinking night so, maybe tomorrow.

(On reflection though, I still prefer 'Paradise Towers')

Oh dear - though it was nice to see the Doc back on his home world (and the shiny spires of Gallifrey realized so wonderfully) plus the brief return of the original (and coolest) console room, on the whole this episode was diabolically bad.
This should have been a finale focussing on the triumphant return of the Timelords' missing planet. Instead it turned into another soapy slush-fest;demonstrating again that NuWho is less concerned with monsters, alien invasion or time travel weirdness and more preoccupied (obsessed) with the Doctor's relationship with his companions. Oh and why can't anyone stay dead?

Please get rid of that F***ing guitar!! >:( >:(

QuoteCheeses Barbara Bain is a terrible actress.

Don't you love Bain's soft focus shots while she whispers about stabilizing patients or something.
Also landau is not much better...shout and attack!!!!!!

Wait to you get to the second series.  It makes S1 seem like Shakespeare in comparison.

( William Shakespeare, not Marlon..)

Good lord, I actually enjoyed an episode of NuWho!! :o
It wasn't filled with the most original concepts (even the Radio Times described it as 'quite derivative'), but there was nothing in it to particularly annoy me either.  Lotsa atmosphere, cool design, restrained music (for once). and Capaldi's great with the right material - certainly the best actor to play the part since the 2005 revival.
(By the way, I loved the dragon painting/mural on the canteen wall - did you see the little figures in the pic dressed in Star Trek style gold, blue and red?)

Slight nitpicks:
I'm not too keen on Capaldi's sunglasses and hoody combo - looking forward to the velvet jacket and waistcoat look he'll be sporting in later eps.

Clara's smugness still irritates. (though less so this year)

Terrible over-acting from the fella playing Pritchard.

Mostly though, I have no real complaints, I generally liked it ... more of this kind of stuff, please.

Let's hope they don't blow it with next week's resolution.

I think the astronomer John Archibald Wheeler came up with the term Black Hole in 1967, and the first one was discovered in '71.

Black Sun is a great episode though (back in the 90's I had a truncated video version of this story, spliced with another episode, and pitched as a Space 1999 movie release - alas, I didn't know any better).
I'm liking all the SP1999 adoration on display here, and am having a few like-minded (sad :-[) friends around this weekend to watch selections from the new remastered Season 2 set, plus a Blake's 7 & Pertwee-era Doctor Who boozy night.
God, I love the 70's! :D

any extra story in oz?

looks awesome. cant wait to read it :)

Good question.
My old Titan reprint of Oz includes the follow-up tale 'Hitman'. Can someone tell me if this is included in the Mega Collection Oz?
(Yes, I am greedy....)

There's a brief glimpse of what looks like the back cover of a Xmas prog in the film Xtro (bizarre 80's sci fi/horror flick). About 47 mins in, if anyone wants to check this out.
