Do subscribers get this as part of their subscription or is it like a 'Winter/Summer' special that needs to be bought individually?
Thanks for any answers.
It has to be bought individually.
Thanks. I shall buy both this very moment.
AW no way. that means I need to travel into Glasgow to find a decent shop that sells them both !!
Forbidden Planet again !
I thought you said a decent shop? ::)
Another question. Will digital buyers have to choose their cover, or will they get both like they did with Prog 2000?

You can order them online from the 2000AD shop, which is what I did.

Me too. Ordered both covers a couple of days ago.
Picked this up a few mins ago. Looks great, the cover is gorgeous. Ezquerra strikes again!
I thought this thread was for the usual weekly prog rather than the special, which is why I started a review thread for the special (http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?topic=44183) (there's another special thread named 40th anniversary prog too!)
Could someone please link me to where on the 2000AD shop I can order the hardcopy please? I can only seem to find the digital version.
Ta!
Should be the same page, just click 'print' rather than 'digital' https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/SPE1701B
Not a stupid question as I came on here to find out the answer too,
Thanks for posting the link Molch-R
Ya,y order 25200. Nice round number!

Hmm. My pre-order hasn't arrived. Any news on when these are being posted?
nor has mine :( tempted to pop into WHSmiths on the way home

Nor mine, but still quite early days. I did pop in W H Smith's a short while ago, but it wasn't there. Not that I can really justify buying it again (although I might have fallen to temptation. If that other cracking B cover had been there*), but I was curious. I find WHS is a bit hit and miss with the prog from store to store.
*and I'm not one to double dip for just a change of cover, usually.
If it hasn't arrived by Saturday morning/afternoon, then I should start worrying & phone up for an answer!!!
Just got a shipping notification on my order for this. I'm assuming demand has been pretty high and it's taking longer than expected to get all the orders out of the door.
Yep, just got my delivery email too!
Mine's on the way....with the regular prog, the special and an SFX. That's taken care of this weekend's reading. :)
My thoroughly rural local shop, which is run by the village committee and only opens 8am-12am, secured a copy of the David Aja Variant without my even having to ask for it. Bearing in mind the only copy of 2000AD it ever gets in is the one reserved for me, and the result is that I sit here openly mocking all of you who have yet to receive it. :P haha*
(*Said with tongue thoroughly in cheek, of course. ;) )

I hadn't seen this answered yet. Digital has both covers.
Postie has just delivered both of my copies.

When did you get your 'dispatched' email?
I got mine yesterday and hoping that the special is delivered tomorrow along with the Prog.
ordered mine from the 2000ad shop yesterday and got a dispatch email within a few hours!
Had dispatch email earlier in the week but still no sign of them. :(
Got the "dispatched" emails on Weds. Plus two (1 per cover) inviting me to buy them.

Cheers. Means I might get them tomorrow. Monday at the latest if not.
Mine came today and the Carlos cover is indeed mighty - much better in the flesh - a bold thing of substance which feels like 40 years gone by.
The Dante story is sublime and one wonders if this is just a one off, or we might see some more flash back tales in the future as we continue to wonder what happened next...
No please let's not have a continuation of Nikolai Dante. The story has been told. I am curently doing a reread and for me it is a complete tale. It had a beginning, a middle and an end. It doesn't need any more tacked on.
2000AD doesn't have a good history of reviving stuff that is done (Strontium Dog excepted).
Exhibit A: Mark Millar's Robo Hunter
Exhbit B: Rogue Trooper
(And don't anyone ever suggest more Zenith. As much as I love it, it's done. Finished. Complete.)
Still no special :(
Exhibit C: Harlem Heroes
Well mine finally arrived this morning. Interesting to note that the date on the postmark was 23rd February, a good few days after the dispatch email. Like the interesting die cut effect on the bag of the Ezquerra cover. Sort of a crash hatch effect that went through a few pages. Definitely the right choice ordering this from the web store. :o

While a (big) part of me would like more, I think you're probably right.
I was intrigued by the idea mentioned by the droids of other stories in the same universe, though.
I don't want any more Nikolai Dante - it was great, but it's over - but I would really like Robbie Morrison to write something new for the prog. Bar this Dante flashback, we haven't seen anything by him for, what, about four years?

Out of interest when was that mentioned? At Robbie Morrison's panel at the 40th?'
Anyway that sounds like a much better way to go - so long as it is the Dante equivalent of Jaegir and not the 86ers.
On the online shop it says the 40th special is no longer available to order. Are there more being printed or have I missed out?

Might be best to hit Smiths if the shops run out.
If you fail utterly, I got both covers so would happily send you one of them
Just PM me if you can't get it elsewhere.

I looked at FP first (this was on Monday) and it said both sold out - the 2000ad webshop still had them.
Don't know why I didn't try that first as I'm not a fan of the behemoth that FP has become

Its interesting that Dante got a flashback tale for the 40th Birthday issue, I know Morrison is busy writing Dr Who, but I reckon even he couldn't resist writing for one of his most beloved creations once more.
Dante's world is indeed a wide one where many a story could be told, however if we were to have such a spin off, I'd always be wondering where Nikolai would fit in or be lurking.
Dante's ending for me was like the Italian Job, suspended in time for imaginations to run riot. He was always told that he would go spectacually by the pre-cog girl, whether that was a ruse or not, that's the way we have his stories finale...
No one mentioned Bad Company on the subject of reconditioning old soilders ... and they are coming back again!
Oh god no - let them rest in peace - every reboot diminishes the original massif

I read it in the interview with Simon Frasier and Robbie Morrison in the primer document attached to the recent thrill mail type email.
Just to be clear, I don't think it's a definite plan. When asked if there were any plans for more, Mr Morrison said it was more likely that we would see a story set in that universe, perhaps with familiar characters, but not necessarily featuring Dante himself.

Mine came this morning. In a plastic envelope too, which is brilliant considering the weather!
I'm going to stop bothering you lovely people with tales of how mine have not arrived yet after 14 days from purchase.
It's getting too sad.
Maybe tomorrow should have just bought from the newsie but wanted to support the web shop... and this is how they treat me :(
If it's 14 days since you received your dispatch e-mail, I'd ask for a replacement as it sounds like it's got lost. 2 weeks is long enough for even the Royal Fail! Although when I've done this with progs in the past, half the time they show up a few days after the replacement arrives (or on one occasion, about three months after!).

My dispatch email was only last week. I'm still expecting them to turn up soon but it's a tad annoying when I ordered them on the 13th but they were not sent until 10 days later.
Had I known I would have picked them up from WH Smiths when I saw them in there last week.
Never mind. Delayed gratification is sometimes the best ;)
same here. Still waiting. I'll cave in and get it from Smiths at this rate

Well worth the wait.
Has anyone seen a copy of the 40th Anniversary Special in a bricks and mortar shop in Dublin? I've been trawling around the usual haunts, but no sign! Could they have all sold out?

Have you tried Big Bang Comics in Dundrum?
Email; info@thebigbang.ie
You could also try either of the "Sub-City Comics" branches on Dame Street or Mary Street in Dublin. Richard and Rob, who run the stores, are both very helpful and friendly guys. I've had a standing order with them for the Prog for years and never had a problem. The link to the website is below. Cheers!

Should also say - you won't be getting the Carlos cover! ;)
Couldn't find the Carlos variant for love nor money in my area, so ordered it from FP, and it arrived just now. So if you ordered from them it should be landing for you soon as well.

That's cool, I prefer the Aja cover anyway (ducks for cover.) After scouring the shops of Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield we've come up blank. I'll drop you a pm...
FP in Cardiff had a large stack of Carlos covers this morning. I've picked up another copy if anyone is still struggling to find it.
Likewise our newsagent still has copies. Yours for the £3.99 and whatever the postage costs. Let me know.

About nine or ten copies in Mega-City Comics, Camden, mostly the Aja cover.
I've just got round to reading this & I must say it was a nice read - not mind blowing, but steady.
The Dredd story was interesting as I thought it was some of Critchlows best Dredd work yet, but I did have to wonder how it would have looked if the original artist lined up, Steve Dillion would have drawn it.
I also enjoyed the Stronty Dog despite a few reservations about the two (!) new authors - but again it was a nice little story & carried on the love/hate relationship between Johnny & Red. It got me thinking to where she is in the current run of stronty dog stories? Thoughts?
