Not a bother - I suppose I couldn't have offered Sebastian O and Kid-Eternity as extras so you've done alright.  Actually they're two comics I've never read either - any use?

Ah, crap.  Wish I'd known - I would have sent you my copies for nowt except post and packaging.  Would have to dig them out first.  If anyone else wants them, just PM me

PS I'm not quite sure where they are and can't remember what condition  they're in so hopefully I won't disappoint whoever wants them

Cheers for the heads-up, Simon.  Lovely artwork it is too

On a Garth Ennis note, I found Crossed to be one of the most disturbing and sickening things I've ever read. It was chilling. And whilst I can't say I love it - because it was so fucked up - it was amazing. It made me totally rethink my dislike for all things Ennis.

Dave

Me too.  I used to be at a total loss as to how he was so popular, and indeed why DC commissioned him in the first place (after his pretty dire run on Dredd).  But he's come good in the end, fair play to him; and despite Crossed featuring some of the most awful, sickening scenes I've ever seen in any medium, it's a very mature and well-written piece of work.

I was only re-reading that the other day.  You're probably right - do actual surfboards have billycords too? It sounds like an Ozification of 'umbilical' anyway

Complete reversal of my take on all things JS :)
Revere recently had me skipping a Thrill, and I always read Thrills (and finish books, etc.)

Whereas for me, Revere (along with Firekind, Killing Time and other JS stuff) was one of the key factors in me sticking with 2000ad through a very mediocre period.  Different strokes for different folks, I suppose!

As a believer that John Smith is one of the best comic writers in the industry, I had for years been dying to read New Statesmen.  Finally I got them on ebay last year.

Sorry, not my thing.  I just thought best buddies Morrison and Moore did the real-world superheroes better.  I tried hard to get into it, but just couldn't.

I liked Troubled Souls though; it's not perfect but it's ok.  And the sequel, despite its huge change in direction,  was enjoyably Viz-like fun.  And I preferred them to Preacher, as well as Garth's take on Alcohol Lovers Monthly - sorry, I mean Hellblazer

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the Hitler one was really good.  Hard to believe the writer of such an unusual, hard-edged strip would soon be doing mainstream Superman comics (not that there's anything wrong with them either).

Brilliant video in the link by Bernie Sanders as to why apothetic non-voters are actually helping the government they are supposedly objecting to.

Good stuff.  As I've always said, at least you can stop the worst of the pricks from running your country.  And I'd say Russell Brand's stance has done the Tories' cause no harm whatsoever.

I keep checking this thread hoping that these amazing game-changing photos will be printed, but no.

I don't, I must admit. They never are.  That said, yesterday I met my friend's mother and uncle, here in Lithuania where I'm on holiday right now (and getting cheap dental work).  They visited their widowed sister on a whim, who assured them that her 3-year-old daughter had said that morning, 'Daddy told me my uncle and auntie will come and see us tonight' (in Lithuanian, presumably).  Apparently she mentions conversations with her Dad (who died last year) quite frequently, but this is the first time she's made a future prediction; and they don't visit that often.

Make of that what you will.  I don't know.  What i do know is that I don't believe any professional medium is genuine.

Thanks a million for all your interesting and informative comments so far. They've honestly given me a lot to think about - I'm beginning to realise I may not be an alcoholic; I'll happily get through a day without a drink; but I am a binge drinker.
However I probably do have at least the potential to develop a more serious drinking problem; and it's something I'll have to keep in check. I'll certainly be trying a few booze-free nights out - I think it's being single and without children that puts me in social, alcohol-friendly situations so often; and maybe it would be a good test for me not to  give in to temptation.
Mind you, I've said that before, and not managed.  Must try harder!

Film & TV / Re: Game Of Thrones Season 5 Episode 8

Is that the last episode of the present series, then?  Hope not; it all seemed a bit short.  What a belter of a season though, and an absolute rip-snorter of a last episode.

Of course, the
zombie battle
was outstanding, but also for me was the
alliance between Tyrion and Daenerys
.  The meeting of the face of King's Landing, which by now seems local and familiar, and that of the distant and exotic Free Cities, gave me a similar feeling to when I was travelling to Asia a few years ago.  Hope it works out between them - Tyrion is an incredible character; and Peter Dinklage an amazing actor.

The bit that actually disturbs me the most is all the dead pandas at the start.

I've said it before, but what I absolutely love about Slaughterbowl is that it is blatantly obvious from the outset that Stanley is a serial killer - there is literally no other explanation for the evidence the authorities uncover - but we just assume he's innocent because he's a meek, seemingly pitiable little man who is the main character of the story. As readers we're so used to the 'wrongly accused' trope, that we disregard all logic and common sense to cheer him on.

Oh yeah, the bit where six of the eight pandas left in the world are slaughtered for fun... Jesus.  (Though to be fair, now I think of it, if they can clone dinosaurs, pandas shouldn't be a problem.)  I think when I first read it it was that bit that got me most too - now it was the 'children nailed to a ceiling' part and Stanley crying over the same butchered little son.  I probably just know more people with kids now.  Oh yeah, and Stanley (presumably) getting raped in the showers wasn't pretty either.

And I really, really thought he was innocent too - I never for one moment saw the twist coming, despite the recap caption box droid's best efforts to give it away. ('CONVICTED SERIAL KILLER Stanley Modest has entered the Slaughter Bowl!' - every week without fail.)  Never liked those recap boxes anyway, but that was very careless.  I just thought it was a mistake or something.
