Can someone please tell me if Corbyn is an anti-semite or not?

That's not the allegation French electronica producer Mirwais made.

In his opinion, the current leader of the UK Labour party hasn't done enough to tackle anti-Semitism among some supporters of the UK Labour party during his time in charge.

There's no way of objectively proving such an opinion is right or wrong. Even if one party can prove they've taken action, the other party can still insist they should have done more.

It's a Rorschach blot - if you already hate Corbyn, you'll think the Rabbi's Burn is valid, if you think he's great, you won't. It's not going to change anyone's mind ^*


* The public have already voted on Corbyn once, so his relative popularity is baked-in. From the vantage point of a tiny village in rural Scotland, the anti-Semitism debate might as well be about jawas, which holds for most of the country. If you're being brutally pragmatic about it, Jezza can afford to lose the votes of every single person who considers themselves Jewish in the UK without worrying about it affecting the outcome of the forthcoming election.

The story behind Blue Ruin is really sweet too. Apparently the director and lead actor grew up together making films, and following a string of failures Blue Ruin was their one last roll of the dice to make careers in filmmaking, and it paid off.

Election ... Every character in it is either a sociopath, a creep or an idiot.

Chris Klein's character is a sweet dope, which, realistically, is as much as most of us can aspire to. Everyone likes to delude themselves that they're the brilliant hero of their own story, but we'd be better off concentrating on just not becoming nasty creeps.

I really like Election and Blue Ruin's one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Just reread the last few pages... dear Grud! As for the wonky figures - 43 million vote is 35% of voters - so 130 million voters?  In a city of 400-500 million?

That story was set shortly after Necropolis.

The population was down to 400 million after The Apocalypse War. I'm not sure anyone bothered to tell us how much it had recovered by the time of Necropolis, but the Dark Judges' time in charge is bound to have eaten into any baby boom significantly.

Assuming voter registration in MC1 is proportionally similar to that of present-day UK*, an electorate of 130 million would give a total population of around 200 million. I mean, it's all bollocks, but that's what I've got.


* I suppose there's reason to assume registration might be even more apathetic even than today

These pages are fantastic. If Rogue Trooper wasn't being ably served by the great Steve Dillon at this time - and headed down a narrative cul de sac that would lead to the character's demise - Sharp could have been an interesting choice of Rogue artist.

Without wanting to be shitty about it, these pages are much better  - or at least more consistently good - than the early Dredd pages Sharp delivered. Sharp soon began producing absolutely fantastic work, but it's a good illustration of the extra experience needed to learn how to produce good work at speed and of the importance of good editorial to both assess talent and develop it to mutual advantage.

The late Jim Baikie was an old friend of Moore^*, which why Skizz joined DR & Quinch on the small list of Alan Moore creations that malingered beyond his escape from Kings Reach Tower.


* DR & Quich's Agony Page suggests having once occupied the same vagina as Moore is another qualifying factor, so maybe Leah Moore could write Halo Jones Book 4?

Great discussion! Gareth's observation that Revere's plots - like all John Smith's plots - are really simple is very astute. It's the way he tells 'em.

Given that many 2000ad readers find the average Dredd story a bit confusing, it's no surprise Revere often crops in discussions of the nineties malaise, but lumping this in with mediocrities like Dead Meat or Babe Race makes no sense.

The idea that Harrison based Revere on himself had occurred to me but I'd never considered the possibility of the Astrologer as Smith's fictional avatar. Thought-provoking stuff - thanks.
