Fun prog. Highlights for me were the giant puppy in Dredd and the sudden, jarring reference to "nude parts" in Grey Area.

Greysuit seems to be a conscious effort at having a really old-school thrill that wouldn't have been out of place in a prog from the '80s. Good fun. I wonder if Pat's poking fun at the reception given to his "Savage sings PJ Harvey" run from earlier in by having characters belt out various cheesy pop songs?

Grey Area is fookin' awesome.

So excited about this! Love the reprints that I've managed to find for both Scream and Misty, and super-psyched to see top creators tackling scary comics for the under-12s. My children will have just turned 8 when this goes on sale - must see if this keeps them awake at night.

It would be awesome if this comic caught the imagination of kids today, but I'm genuinely puzzled as to how you reach them in 2017. In 1984 I'd scan the shelves of my local newsagents or a kid would come to school showing off the vampire fangs he'd got free with Scream, but how do kids come across comics now, especially when there's so much other stuff competing for their attention?

It's possible you're misremembering an advert for a different comic - scary beasties reading things over

Bolland's FP advertisement possibly?

Ah, I thought I might be misremembering the advert or even imagining it. Given the preponderance of similar images it's probably the former. I'm starting to think it might have been the TV ad that left such a big impression on me, but a YouTube search has revealed nothing.

That Beaver Book of Horror cover image is amazing! I used to read things like that and the Fontana Book of Horror and Armada Book of Ghost Stories, so it's possible the image came from something like that.

Thanks for paying attention to my blathering anyway. Really looking forward to this Scream/Misty special.

This looks pretty damn awesome. I have memories of buying a couple of issues of Scream. Misty was kind of before my time, but I remember reading a lot of spooky stories in later girls' comics (swiped from my sister's room) like Bunty and Mandy.

The cover looks acey. It reminds me of an image I saw at the time of Scream but that I can't remember seeing since. I'm thinking it would have been a print advert for the new comic that I might have seen in one of the IPC humour comics I used to read around then. Can anyone else recall it or am I imagining it? I recall an image of a kid reading a copy of the comic, and a load of ghouls and ghosts crowding in behind him to read his comic. I remember the image really firing up my imagination as a kid, with the scariness of the monsters and the jarring, funny idea of them being fascinated by a horror comic.

It'd really make my day if this imagined image actually exists. It's doubly make my day if someone could post it here  :)

Any other digital subscribers getting a failed download and a message saying "the downloaded data is corrupt"?

I'm pretty excited to be told my latest 2000 AD is corrupt, actually. Looking forward to seeing all the Caligula-style debauchery once I actually get to download it.

They said no network is on board yet.

Personally I'm hoping for Netflix.

Hope it's not Sky, as I don't have that and satellite dishes are frowned on where I live. But hey, Sky should be available via the Internet by the time this is out.

I heard there's an Internet streaming thingy called Now TV or something that allows you to watch Sky stuff for a monthly fee without entering into a contract. That's how I'm planning to watch the forthcoming Twin Peaks episodes.

Yes but neither my set top box or telly support it.  :(

Sky did announce proper Sky via tinternet for two years hence a couple of months ago.

I got the impression from this article that it's already available as a streamed viewing service:

Admittedly, I haven't looked into it in any kind of detail so I'm likely to be wrong. And if I'm wrong I don't get to see Twin Peaks  :|

...Or Dredd if it's shown on Sky  :'(

A TV series that takes a wider look at Mega-city One is just about the best news there could have been. Firstly, it had the potential to be freakin' awesome, and secondly, having something like this would stop the gloaters from saying stuff like, "it's already been tried twice and both times it failed LOLOLOL".

If only I could go back in time and show the news to this infuriatingly supercilious git I was arguing with on the Guardian message board a couple of years back...

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie.

Particularly recommended if you ever got into any of Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

"tongue film"? I think I've inherited SBT's autocorrect settings.

Sounds like a very useful dental hygiene product - or even some kind of prophylactic.

Another thing I just noticed that may link the Dark Judges story to the movie Dredd(s):

Isn't the cover line "FEAR ME" a cheeky nod to what Stallone said the "diminutive" Danny Cannon once shouted to everyone on the set of the first Dredd movie?

(As quoted in "TPO", which I'm currently enjoying very much).

Why is Fairfax giving Elvis Presley a ride on the cover and what happened to Jess?

Great prog!

Really enjoying Kingmaker and Kingdom. Enjoying all the Kings.

I usually dislike Sinister Dexter but this one's giving me a few chuckles. I really like the way it looks with Steve Yeowell on art. Usually the two main characters look to cheesy and '90s to me but they look great here. I think Yeowell's style fits the humour of the strip really well. Has he worked on SinDex before?

Loved the ending to Dredd. There was a dark humour to it but at the same time it was completely in character for Dredd and his world. The character design for the baddie was awesome. I liked how he looked all flabby but still had this strong sense of menace to him.

The Order still confuses me and makes my head spin but looking back I always reflect that it was a good time. It's the comics equivalent of having six or seven pints and a karaoke session with the people from IT on a Friday after work.

Off-colour jokes aside, this is the strongest collection of strips I've seen in the prog for a while. I love it when there's this kind of diversity among the strips in terms of tone and setting.

The Dredd story is ridiculously well paced and it looks great. I love the way the art alternates between cartoonish, funny scenes and the usual hard-boiled Dredd scenes. The story-telling is so economical it's almost Scrooge-like. The couple of panels showing immediately before Dredd smashes through the window, the moment of action itself and the aftermath was pure, golden 2000 AD.

Everything else is great, too. The Order makes my head spin when I read it, but there's something about it I really like so that's no biggie.

Bukake?

Yep, pretty sure that's a scene from Miserable Law Enforcer Facials Vol. 2.
