General / How many Judges are there?
07 May, 2012, 07:19:55 PM
This is pretty much off the top of my head, but I've been wondering about it for a while. Feel free to pick holes in all of my guesswork.

Lets start with the basics.
MC1 has a population of 400 million.

It's divided up into sectors (I can't remember how many) each of which contains a sector house.
Each sector house is fairly well equipped and we have to assume some sort of tek and med facilities.
Each sector house also has some SJS facilities, but I'm not sure if they are staffed permanently.

Let's say for a round figure, a sector house has 100 judges. If we have approx 40 million cits in one sector, that gives us 100 sectors and so 10,000 Judges in sector houses.

BUT we also have other specialised judges:
Psi
Tek
Med
PSU
SJS
Wally Squad
Accounts
Judge Tutors at the academy
"Desk Judges"
(Are isoblock guards judges?)

We have to assume that all of these "specialist" Judges are pretty numerous. Are there more of them than street Judges? For arguments sake, let's say the numbers are equal, so another  10,000 Judges.

I'm assuming med & meat wagon drivers are cits or at least non-Judge level Justice Dept employees.

We also "know" that quite a lot of street Judges are killed off in the line of duty. I we said a weekly? "wastage" of 1%, that means 100 dead street Judges. BUT we don't know how many new cadets are being fed into the system, maybe 10/week? So only a 90 Judge wastage.

So out of 20,000 Judges, there is roughly a 90 Judge loss every week (this number is obviously too high!)
This then begs the question, with all the current Day of Chaos deaths, how many Judges are left? and roughly how long would it take for them to recover to a pre-chaos level?

So, I've only just caught up on the whole "Ezquezera - Big C" stuff and was wondering, do many of Tharg's other robotic minions use some of the assorted cornucopia (woo! big word!) of social networking sites?  And do I feel worthy enough to try and become the "friend" of these mighty giants on things such as "Facebook"?

Off Topic / Monkeys. In hats.
20 September, 2010, 01:57:58 PM
I don't really want to open a can of worms here.... BUT on Friday I was in a cocktail bar (don't ask!) but they had a drink called a "brazz monkey" served in a lovely stylised cup of a monkey wearing a straw boater and smoking a cigar.  I did attempt to "borrow indefinately" one of said mugs, but got stopped in my drunken state before I could get away with the deed :(

Long Live the Be-Hatted Monkeys!

Oh, and I may have become slightly obsessed about the mug the more drunk I became, things are a bit hazy :S  See what you have done to me board!!!

Hive mind,

Are there any TPBs out there you would recommend to catch up on the last 2 years of thrill-power?  And has there been anything that has stood out particularly that I should try and pick up?

Thanks you mighty hive mind.

General / Hive Mind Summary Required

Dear Almighty Hive Mind,

Can anyone fill me in about what's happening with muties in the Big Meg?  Last time I was here was around about "Origins" when Dredd had found the mutie town with all his "stepbrothers".

I hope I am worthy enough for you to dignify me with your wisdom.

Ok, I have about 5 boxes of 1980-now 2000ADs and associated specials, monthlies, annuals.  I need to offload them sooner rather than later and unless anyone in/around Edinburgh wants them they're probably going to the charity shop tommorrow.

If you're interested give me a shout.

Classifieds / Trying to flog some stuff
06 May, 2006, 03:30:12 AM
Long time no see peoples!

I'm still out here somewhere but rarely have time to participate much, although I do check in every-so-often to see what happening.  My parents are up and moving sticks sometime soonish so I've got shitloads of back-progs to try and get rid of roughly I have progs 500 -820 to get rid off, and probably some 2000AD Monthlys/Megs as well.  Rather than start off flogging them bit by bit on EBay I'm offering you all first pick.  Not exactly free-to-good-home but a small donation plus postage would be much appreciated.  If you're interested/looking for anythign particular give me a shout.

Cheers y'all,

General / 2000AD presentation
30 January, 2006, 10:53:18 PM
'ello kids!

Hope you're all fine and dandy.  I seek the might wisdom of the hive mind.  In about 2 weeks I've got a rather bizzare interview where I've got to do a 5min presentation.  I though (foolishly?) to do it on the mighty tooth and now I need to work out how much to include, what to include and how geeky to make it.  Bearing in mind it's only 5 mins long, does anyone have any tips?  So far my ideas run to "what is tooth?", famous charachters (Dredd, Johnny Alpha, Dante) and possibly a brief thing of "visit www.2000adonline.com for all your comic-y needs"

Off Topic / A very off-topic question regarding shares
05 September, 2005, 12:08:27 AM
OK, as I lay in bed last night I was struck by an interesting question: What determines the number of shares a company can sell?
i.e. do they have only 1000 shares? 5000 this year but get another 2000 next year?

I could only come up with one possible explanation.  When a company floats on the stock market it has a set value, this value is therefore the total value of shares that can be sold.  They decide what the selling price of a share is based on their total value and thus work out a "total" number of shares.  Does this sound even vaugely sensible?  Are there any economists out there to clarify? Will I have to forever live in doubt?

Books & Comics / Modesty Blaise - Bad Suki
29 July, 2005, 09:49:07 PM
Pleasantly surprised on a recent visit to the library when I found this gem hiding amongst the other GNs.

Loving the new covers, very unassuming yet striking enough to make you pick up.  All the art in this selection is by Jim Holday so intro is some american dude saying how much he loves him but we also have a couple of nice Holday nudes to marvel at.  Following that a litte bit on O'Donnell's alter-ego of Madeline Bent.

Bad Suki - start looking a bit dated now being all based on hippy free love before moving on to breaking up a minor drug ring.

The Galley Slaves - Modesty & Willie & a Roman Galley.  Leading to the recovery of stolen US sub

The Red Gryphon - Tresure hunting in Venice.

Overall - Lovely little collection. but overall seems to focus more on the earliest stories, hopefully this time Titan will reprint some of the more recent 80's and 90's strips.
