Games / Re: Last game played...

Finished Astral Chain on Switch last night. Really like it's "demon on a chain" gameplay mechanic. Impressed by how well it controls. Alot of times it really felt like "anime: the game". Only flaw I can think of would be the end boss not being very epic. Otherwise probably my favorite game by Platinum games actually! :)

The Three-Body Problem : The Dark Forest : Death's End by Liu Cixin reminded me of both 2001 as well as the foundation books, and towards the almost a little bit of Phil K Dick. Basically about the world under attack from aliens, and the chinese comes to the rescue. The fight goes on for 1000 of years. Enjoyed all three of them very much. Especially the science stuff. Lot of it very very interesting concepts, and some dark ones as well. And mistakes are made to say the least. My favorite bit was probably the idea of a dark forest theory in the second book, and especially the ending. Brilliant twist!

Made me think of the Crow sequels more than anything else, tbh.

That was exactly my first thought. The grim dark Batman has got very old and doesn't really have much to say in my mind. We don't need Adam West Batman here but there's more potential to the character than I'm seeing used at the moment.

I can confess, this song did come to mind when seeing it first https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVu-7obqXng

But I'll give them a pass, since the aim is to make a detective story. And it seems Reeves is planning a trilogy. I think he'll change it up a bit as he goes.

For some less serious and fun stuff, I'm positive the upcoming Flash movie will deliver   https://www.nme.com/news/film/ben-affleck-and-michael-keaton-to-both-return-as-batman-in-the-flash-2733687

I'm pretty sure Matt Reeves will do good by Batman.

His aim is to make a more personal detective story. Really liked that aspect of the panel

Stand out for me in the trailer was Jeffrey Wright. His Gordon oozes Batman: Year one Gordon.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou not seen this one for a while. Which is weird as its one of my all time favs and this viewing did nothing to shake that. Charming, warm, witty, sharp and intriguing. Its a wonderful film and I adore it.

Thanks for mentioning Life Aquatic.Classic. And I've only watched it once... Going to try to fix that ASAP!

TENET quite cool, but it left me a bit empty. I understood the story, but I got quite lost at times during it. Couldv been the lack of subs on the 35mm print I watched. Didnt think the ending didnt pack the same punch as for example Inception either. Also lacked effective scenes to ground the ideas its throwing around. Felt like the backwards thing shows up snd everyone accepts without much fuzz. But all and all, liked it. Loopy story with some good action. but it feels like I need to watch it again. Interstellar needed a second viewing as well for me  :)

Watched Inception and Interstellar, since Tenet is just around the corner. Think both held really well. Inception felt smooth and well phased, definitely one of the best action movies I've seen. Interstellar grows with every viewing for me. One thing I noticed this time around is how the ending sort of feels like
an afterlife, heaven or something for both Coop and Murph. Coop surviving a black hole and getting to meet his daughter. Murph saving mankind and on her death bed getting to meet her dad.
I really enjoyed both movies. Hope Tenet will deliver as well :)

Interesting read.

One thing I noticed, Revolution with computer colours. Wonder if it's from the upcoming Essential America, with the new colours by  John Higgins?

Unforgiven Funny I'd never watched this one before, given the number of westerns and all sorts of noir films I've seen. Which is how I view it, sort of a western noir. I really enjoyed how gritty it was. Just wish it was a bit more dirty. For example when Munny comes into the saloon from the rain, and doesn't look too wet. Regardless, the scene is really dirty in tone. As are many others as well. For example when the "heroes" are to shoot the "heavy" one of the them starts to hesitate, and when the shooting is done the guy they're gunning for (who gets it while being unarmed and trying to crawl to saftey) is bleeding out from a gut shot. Not something I've seen too often in westerns. And I think Unforgiven is one of the best ones I've seen.

Yep, a lot of ins and outs when it comes to Dave Sim. As is with a lot of writers. But in his case I choose to separate him from his work to the fullest (especially since he groomed an underage girl), as well as Jaka's story from the rest of Cerebus. Which I think her story lends itself very well to. Read it as a Alice in Wonderland-sque little tale (Couldn't help it but to think of Thatcher as the queen of hearts) about a woman with a very beautiful and powerful presence and her desire to dance: how those things affects those around her.

But from what I understand Sim built her up soley to ruin her for the reader in the later volumes, and I don't care much for that. Especially not since it seems very forced, at a dire expence of her character and for some ill-fated nonsense. I also think her and Cerebus relationship is made more than clear in Jaka's story, when he asks for forgivness and asks her to come with him.

Regarding Cerebus as a whole, I can see why people dig it, and I don't have a problem with that at all. I could see a good chunk sticking to #1-150/200, and others the whole lot since he actually finished what he started. Perhaps even the idea that Cerebus would "Die alone unmourned and unloved".

Cerebus: Jaka's Story I quite liked this book. A weirdly engrossing and surpisingly mature story about a woman Jaka, who's a waitress and dancer a pub. One day she get's a social visit by an old friend, a very angry sword carrying aardvark named Cerebus. While this is happening Jaka's husband is gossiping details of her early life to writer "Oscar" (who's basically Oscar Wilde) who's penning a story (inside the story) out of it. Felt like equal parts Don Rosa's Scrooge McDuck and Ingmar Bergman. Hard to explain, but hard not to recommend.

I've read some reviews and such on the rest of the Cerebus series, but Jaka's story feels like sweet spot for me. Especially given how well it reads as stand alone, and how off the rails the later books went.

LEGION More or less binged s1-3. The constant wierdness, song numbers and montages almost got to me towards the end. Wish I had the time to watch it like the first time around, an episode now and then. Bit of an overload. That said. Still fun with some imaginative concepts which still feels fresh. Aubrey Plaza is scary and scary amazing.

I haven't! I should get on those soon too.

Also give his samurai films in colour a go. Ran and Kagemusha are stellar!

There are also a bunch of nice ones beyond Kurosawa. Sword of Doom and Harakiri are very easy to recommend! :)
