General / Anderson's mother?

Besides as a memory in the Endgram story, any other appearances of Cassandra's mum?

Any ideas about whereabouts and such? She alive, dead?

General / Judge Dredd killing children?
05 July, 2015, 11:47:56 AM
Read Democracy now -the second time since I got it- the other day.

And Dredd killing a kid in the story Direct action. Got me wondering, has this happened before or since?

Outside kids among the half a bill. people in the retaliation strike on Sov cit. 1, and Owen Krysler (and his clone embryo monster).

It just made me curious, especially since Dredd is such a complicated monster.

Music / Anyone in need of some records?
25 June, 2015, 07:49:50 PM
If so, then contribute to this thing. It's for a good cause, and will potentially kill the winner.

Btw. I hope this doesn't come of as advertisement or such. It's just that it's such an awesome list of winnings. The winner will be the epitome of Iggy Pop's lyric: "I'm worth a million in prizes!"

Btw (2) There is some amazing music on that list, so have a look at it --to keep music evil.

Books & Comics / Eddie Cambell's Bacchus?
17 May, 2015, 08:30:02 PM
I rather liked Bacchus Immortality isn't forever and The Gods of Business, having read them digitally on comixology.

Is the rest of the run as good as those two? Does it read like one big story?

Reason I'm wondering is that I'm considering buying the the two omnibuses. And I'd like it to read as good as it is to eye the art :)

Books & Comics / Kamandi Omnibus vol. 2?
11 August, 2014, 10:49:51 PM
Does Kamandi omnibus vol. 2 work well on it's own? Is there a sort of beginning and ending?

Can't find Kamandi omnibus vol. 1 at a reasonable price.

Some may remember me having a similar problem with the 4th World omnibuses, with vol. 2 being very expensive. Good thing vol. 3 and 4 worked well on it's own. I'm hoping Kamandi Omnibus vol. 2 works in a similar way.

Either way. Love Kirby. Got 4th World vol. 3-4 and Omac. Love the stuff.

Anyone else who watched/liked it?

While it, in classic later day 24 fashion, let things happen to fast and to often, I thought it wrapped up the series really nicely.

I especially like the way the season put some holes show's "bubbles". For example Jack saying that he hates "those who think the end justifies the means" (which sounds quite ironic, coming from him.). Only thing missing was Jack acknowledging how tired he is of
moles
:D

While
the death of Audrey
felt a bit tiresome at first, coupled with the end of the show it almost felt meta how
Jack finally got some rest, even if it means dying in a russian prison.
instead of feeling formulaic. Since it happened to many times to the character, I think it almost felt like it had to happen again-of sorts. Kind of what Grant Morrison did with his Oroboro-Batman.

And for the series, I think 24 is quite a mixed bag when it comes to the seasons. First season (closely followed by 7th) is still my fav. while the third "trilogy" (s. 7-9) is my favorite.

S. 5 is VERY awesome but 4 and 6st comes of as lame drama torture porn, something methinks also think s.2 does.

While 7-9 got some torture, at least it shows what it does to people. While
Renee Walker's
arc isn't as (probably nowhere as) good as it should have been, I still think it's cool the show at least tried instead of trying to make it look good. Jack's moral compass took some (for me at least) desired hits along the way also, not always making him right. Season 9 even seems to comment on this with
Ritter saying field ops isn't science
even if Bauer's bad assary is of such legend that it could be in it's universe.

And I also felt that 7-9 got the mystery feel 1st had. Bauer feeling as big on mystery as he was dangerous. No need to spell everything out why, but more on how for example Bauer's Batman-like guilt paves way for action and thrills. And while
Chang Zhi
in s. 9 didn't feel rich like the Drazens in s. 1, I felt that it was handled a lot more exciting than in s. 6, which was cool/good thanks to
a drokkin "nucular" weapon going off in LA, and Jack blowing up in the face of Heller in the end.
. Season 7's
Tony Almeida
probably is closer to soap opera than The wire, but I also think the character and it's arc shined (also somewhat foreshadowing some of Bauer's journey).

But with that written. The show is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. At times feeling like an absurd ticking clock scenario The man on U.N.C.L.E. on crack. I'll probably binge-watch the first season and then seven, eight and nine when the latest/last (hopefully) hit's blu ray. See if it really holds up and isn't just happy tv memories for me.

How about you? Your thoughts?

Been thinking about buying some Jack Kirby lately. OMAC feels like a must buy (with some ideas being worthy 2000ad) and also the fourth world omnibuses.

But with 4h world vol 1 looking a bit bit too funky (too much Jimmy Olsen) and vol 2 impossible to find at a decent price I'm thinking of just buying vol. 3 (that details what started the war and the pact) and vol 4 (that ends it all)

Think that's a good idea?

Also, any other stuff by the king that's recommended? Devil Dinosaur perhaps?

Does Strontium Dog: A traitor to his kind and Blood Moon tie into The life and death of Johnny Alpha more than Blood Moon getting a mention by Middenface in Life & Death?

I get it that Blood moon is a good book and I'm thinking of buying it, but any say about Traitor to his kind? I'm quite put off by it's cover the say the least :(

Can be said that I own SD files 2 and 3. I really like Portrait of a mutant and Rage. Think those make Johnny a really interesting character with the balance between heroism and vengeance. And from what I understand Blood Moon is a bit like those two?

Film & TV / 12 years a slave
18 March, 2014, 06:29:48 AM
Easily this year's best feel bad movie. Made me teary at least 3 times. "Worst" (meant in a good way) thing I'v seen since The road.

Love it that the subject of the film didn't stop at the horrors of slavery, but went beyond and inside the minds of the slaves. Showing what fear can inflict. The stuff that makes 1984 such a great read for me or Bus174 or Act of killing such brilliant documentaries.

That everything about the film is brilliant isn't a shame either.

So in short, I think it's a fantastic film. One I believe and hope will make people stop and think for a moment what humans done to each other, and still do to this day. Be it prostitutes, people in a war zone or them getting cancer in a chem pit while making jeans in hopes to make enough to be able to get more out of life than just survive.

What you guys think?

Hi.

Read it the other night. The DC comics deluxe ver. Fear and loathing, Takes Manhattan and Kingdom of the Blind was awesome. And even if Hateful dead, Super Babylon and Secret Tribunal wasn't the best of the bunch, they still where entertaining. And I really liked the "ending" with Growing boy.

But about those. Super Babylon namely. It had me wondering about the following
Lynn Evans being brought back as a zombie, and then angering/ridiculing Marshal by doing Black Scarab.
Anyone's guess what the point was to that? I figure that
it could have been to somewhat complicate Marshal, making him jealous and destructive since Lynn "moved on" being an angry and naked zombie.
Also, anything "wrong" with comics that made her naked and undead? Something akin to the "painful abuse memories" girl from Secret Tribunal or was it just a push against PC? Felt some of those attacks on PC took away from the book at times, making new "wrongs" when attacking those of the old. A bit of self parody perhaps (and perhaps the best way of looking at some of it?)

Hope there'll be some discussion about the book  :)

General / Binding two tpbs into a book?
15 July, 2013, 04:58:57 PM
Anyone who tried doing this?

I'v spotted some of my Dredd TPBs been giving up, with the spine starting to fall off, and thought maybe have a bookbindery (looks like there's alot of those, even in small communes like mine) put together the following.

Brothers of the blood + Total War
Complete America + Origins
Tour of duty book 1, 2
Day of Chaos book 1, 2

But any idea if it's possible to have each cover cut out and put on the front and the back of the cover (with the back done in a similar manner, but with the back of each book) ?

I'd for example want the Brothers of the blood to cover it and Total war (who's cover would be on the back side of the said cover). Anyone tried doing the same, but for example with a prog or megazine cover?
#33
A bit missleading title perhaps but anyways: My problem is due to the spine of a couple of my DREDD TPBs.

In some of the books the glue looks like it's loosened a bit, and the last 20 or so pages looks more stuck to the back of the book instead of the spine. Also looks like there's a binding holding the pages together.

The pages still feel sturdy, I don't they'll come off any time soon, but still I got to ask if this is something anyone else has come across? Any need for me to worry more pages becomes like that, or that they'll fall of in time?

Any suggestions on what can be done to fix (besides say buy new ones) or prevent this from happening?

Books & Comics / IDW's classic Dredd
07 July, 2013, 09:33:11 PM
A preview for #1 that's out this 10th http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=17198

I love the colouring and I can't wait to see how it works with Carlos' art!

By the way, any insight on how the Dr Who IDW classics works? Those published in same order as the orginal continuity?

Been thinking about this since they stared of with Judge Death followed by Bloc war/Apocalypse war. I figure/hope that robot wars, cursed Earth, day the law died, judge child, un-american grafitti and Death lives also get's coloured.

Also. Any coloured Dr Who that got re-published in the classics or re-coloured? Would love a proper Chopper run ending with Song of the surfer (in it's painted glory of course).

Suggestions / Wilderlands + Death of a legend
21 November, 2012, 10:18:25 AM
What would you think of the following? A book with:

"Conspiracy of Silence"
"Prologue"
"The Tenth Planet"
"Wilderlands" (the 2000AD-progs.)
"The Candidates"
"Farewell to the Chief" (From the Judge Dredd magazine)
"Death of a Legend"

Could be called Death of a legend or Farewell to the chief, due to Hilda's end. Both giving the wilderland story weight and serving as a farewell to her.

Also serving as a conclusion of Mechanismo.

I understand if some think it's not to far away in a CF. But Mechanismo 1-3 was also released when it was near showing up in a CF.

Personaly I'd love to see this happen. Opening with Hilda sending Dredd to Titan and ending with him carrying her "You deserved better.".

Adding another one of Dredd's small steps of becomming a bit more human. A bit like brothers of the blood or Complete America.

And it would work well on it's own too. Dredd as a prisoner is a great read. Good fun and one hell of a ride.

(I accidently posted this in another thread, but couldn't find a button to delete my post. I meant for it to be posted as a thread. Sorry if this is seen as spamming the board, it wasn't my intention)

Books & Comics / The Chief Judge's Man, any good?
08 October, 2012, 11:33:45 AM
Hi.

I'v been thinking of buying Brothers of the blood(I wasn't for a while, but I'v heard too much good about it) and Satan's Island (amazing title, plus it's said to put Orlok on a trail).

But I'v also been thinking about The Chief Judge's Man. One review said it was very noir'ish. But does it add anything vital to the story itself? And is it good? For example some stuff about Judge Edgar (who I'v only seen in Tour of duty.) ?

Or is there better stories that deals with Edgar? The books I have are listed below, think it'd fit into the collection?

Dredd case files 2,5 and 14 (also 1,4,8 and one or two more, can't remember, at my mum and dad's house)
The complete America
The pit
Total war (should arrive this week)
Origins
Tour of duty: Backslash & Mega city justice
#37
Hi.

What stories are included in the Total war book?

Is it Terror and Total war? Caught in the Act too?

I got case files 2 (Cursed earth, Day the law died) ,5 (Death lives, Bloc mania and Apocalypse war) 14 (Necropolis), the pit, America, Origins, Tour of duty 1-2, and I was thinking Total War could fit into that, especialy with Day of Chaos comming next year (haven't read any of it, but looks great!)

And other suggestion on books that would fit into my collection?

I'v been thinking of the case files with Oz + Surfs up (even if I'm not fan of the teleportation bits and Garth not letting Chopper rest.)

Hi.

Anyone else who read those books?

I love to read them with James' memoirs in hand, facinating/chilling to see where a lot of the characters comes from in his past and psyche.

My favourites are White Jazz and The cold six thousand. I love how the corruption of the characters are really felt in them two, especially Wayne Tedrow, Jr.

A grand ugly story too to say the least. My only grips about it is the last book Blood's a rover. A bit to much of Don Crutchfield running the voodoo down together with one or two many characters constantly teasing the reader with "You'll see what I'm up to in a bit" makes the middle of it a bit to confusing for me. But the ending is really good, and enough soo to be read again I think -from which I hope ultimately will lead to the point that I'll more easily will be able to follow the middle :)

Hi!

I'v read some about Strontium Dog, and checked some preview pages and what not, and I was thinking that this looks like a book with some good fun in it.
But I was thinking of starting with one book. And based on reviews, the third one seems to pack some good story (vikings, helicopters and epic revenge.).

So is that a good start?

I'v read that the first book is a bit like the Dredd files, good one offs but no epics. The second one got some good reviews and looks interesting to, where Johnny becomes a revolutionary leader, but still not up there sci fi-western wise as having vikings and drokkin helicopters on the same page!!
