I love Bukowski's work. I reckon its pretty similar to comics as the text is down to earth and largely concerned with story, as opposed to flouncy language. I dunno what the point of this post is, just intrigued as too whether anyone else likes Charles's  writing. Reckon the postman could make for an interesting comic adaptation....  If we can have Shakespeare as a comic then whilst not more interesting and socially relevant authors? Surely more people can relate to the themes within Bukowski's work then a dead text that is largely incomprehensible to people who don't wish to pore over a script? If Shakespeare is studied in schools then why not other authors that offer a more modern perspective on love, loneliness, depression, addiction and violence. I know who I'd prefer to read, both now and as a teenager.....and it ain't William.
This goes for comics in general, as the themes in comics are often of more interest then fucking Romeo and Juliet to the average Yoof. Imagine if Watchmen was taught in English... A text which raises far more questions then it does answers forcing a reader to actually think about their relationship to the governing powers and ultimate lack of a coherent protest in relation to a  governments decisions?

Apologies if this bangs on, but I really feel that schools offer a shite standard of education and fail to raise a number of valid discussions that are readily available in comics.

Alrite,
My lack of reply is due to my work taking away the internet! assholes.
To the response below (Save Ferris shirt guy... Weird- as I also used to listen to this ska band many moons ago), I have read plenty of comics thank you very much, and assure you that I genuinely enjoy Preacher. Whilst a lot of 'new' comics readers may as well, surely that speaks volumes about the overall greatness of the comic as it can appeal to both genre fans and newcomers alike? I agree with you on Dillon's Dredd work (the werewolf story is 110% badass) but I feel the preacher artwork suited the punky  style of preacher, as it lends itself to the trashy style of the comic, which disguises  several complex themes. I much prefer this style of art to the increasingly  ICT based coloring approach seen in modern comics.
I also enjoy DKR, and also its sequel as I love Miller's artwork. In particular his trippy visuals as exemplified in the TPB vol 7 of Sin City. Is his other output any good? Obviously DD is a laugh but I have seen some weird robot based story's and am undecided whether to buy that, rogue trooper or get into Charley's war(I feel that one purchase in this series will lead to many!?)
Anyway, no hard feelings, I genuinely love Preacher, and as I say am always on the look out for decent comics. Unfortunatley my new uni course is eating into valuable reading time.
Peace out

cheers for the intensity. Was killing me all day at Uni! Never knew Heyman booked Smackdown, as I had given up on WWF at that period. Wonder why he never got involved in TNA, to actually make it decent? surely there is a valid fan base for ECW? Also, Shane Mcmahon was suprisingly hardcore, he took a massive bump in the worlds shittest elbow drop on Big Show.

by the way vzzbux, 'Gaff'  means mistake!

Peace out

You fail to mention any. To me it really is the best comic. The artworks unmatchable and the writing top notch. It contains so many themes, Friendship, Love, a thorough examination of religion, violence, comedy tragedy.. the list could go on) Have not yet read a better comic, and doubt I will, but would be chuffed if I ever did.

Vader was indeed a beast. Also responsible for taking off Foleys Ear. Other notable gaffs- D-Lo Brown breaking Droz's back (Darren resultingly confined to a wheel chair for life), Owen hart breaking Austins neck, Brett Hart Screw Job ( heart breaking)Owen Harts death broad cast live (Truly heart breaking) Mankind V Triple H- Tooth through the cheek anyone?
Who says wrestlings fake?
Ok now, whos the ultimate wrestler? I'm gonna say Mick Foley. The man could brawl, talk, take ridiculous bumps and do technical shit.
Bring it

Lesnar!? No way on gods green earth. Couldnt talk his way out of a paper bag. You are however right on Angle and Benoit. Angle was hilarious in promo, the three I's being a prime example: Integrity, Intelligence and.... shit! what was the last one!
Benoit also shit hot especially in partner ship with Saturn, Dean Malenko or Eddie. Dont know if you are aware but but Heyman never booked Smackdown 100% and was only employed as a character, hence him leaving WWE as it became increasingly deng. (Deng=the opposite of peng AKA SHITE)#

But they are shite to watch! no interesting story lines or promos!
Austin to a devote christian wrestler (Jake the Snake Roberts):
"You sit there and you thump your Bible and you say your prayers, and it didn't get you anywhere. Talk about your Psalms, talk about John 3:16... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!"
Need I say anymore.....This man inspired a nation of playground violence involving taunts and wrestling renactments! I have fond memories of mass brawls (Year 8 so a loooong time ago) which always ended in a ridiculous move such as a 3-d or rock bottom to the unfortunate loser! By the way Calum, that 3-d was no cause for tears you pussy!(Hope he doesnt see this)

Ok just seen new post by Faplad, Get a grip son! how can you compare attitude era to the drivel you like! No decent wrestlers. The best had come or were now past their prime. No Cactus, Austin, Sabu, Perry Saturn, The Rock (decent matches and promos) Mikey Whipwreck... I could go on. I challenge you to name decent modern wrestlers from your era, or decent story lines for that matter. .  Did you watch ECW?
Peace

Alreet,
Anyone else here a fan of wrestling? Myself not today, but have fond memories of both ECW and Attidute era WWF. Both were pretty similar to comics in that they had massive characters combined with acts of violence combined in longterm story arcs. Fav stories invole Austin vs Vince, RVD Vs Sabu- Stretcher match and anything involving Terry Funk or Cactus Jack. For any doubters check out Cactus Jack Promos, Raven circa ECW promos and matches against Tommy Dreamer. Am probs alone in this, but just wondered what other comic fans thought regarding wrestling. Myself, I love the shit! Cos BoJirch said so.... (Christ thats so fucking sad that its all etched in my memory........)

Preacher- The fight between Cassidy and Jesse. In fact, drokk it, the entire last TPB of Preacher. So many tragic ends to brilliant characters. Herr Starrs speach about becoming a monster 'I certainly look the part' Am I the only one who likes Herr Starr?! Cant but help love the bald git! Preacher is without a shadow of a doubt the best comic ever written.

All first person shooters the same!? Sweet Baby J! Have you never played unreal tournament, timesplitters 2 or even Goldeneye! All bench mark releases and totally different in gameplay (Eg goldeneye=stealth, Unreal=futuristic violence in the name of entertainment) Look at the sheer range of options for Timesplitters 2! I still play the game to this day. Quite possibly the best FPS ever released and well worth hunting down for the PS2. Never played World War Zero, but trust me, Timesplitters 2 is the daddy of FPS.

Oi Oi, Googled it and im pretty sure a 360 version will be released later in the year. The septics are getting the first 360 release though! Further discrimination for the gamers in Europe.

am up for a board league fo sure. I'll have to wait for a 360 release though due to my antiquated pc, it's like a really slow and pathetic dinosaur from Jurassic park. Totally agree with the comment about the high cost of tabletop gaming hence the skirmish games being the best. Only need to buy 8 models or so and job done.
Fingers crossed for the Dredd Necromunda hybrid Video Game! Imagine the judges attempting to establish order within the hive! The Carnage!

Checked on the GW website, all of the mail order ones have sold out so its a store purchase only released tomorrow. On my lunch break Im going to try and reserve one. For some reason I think its retailing at £35. Not entirely sure if thats accurate or mindless optimism on my part.

I've missed this one! Whens Space Hulk out? Is it a totally new rules with a new rulebook? All the skirmish games are so much more fun then the army battles. I love the levelling up aspects of blood bowl as well-probably explains my other past addiction to Final Fantasy VII!
