Messages - Pete Wells

Oh man, I love you Colin (and I ALWAYS look forward, and with interest, at your choices for Cover of the Year, your tastes are always unique!) I really do hope to see you in the gorgeous flesh this year!

I say it every year, but I'll TRY and be more active on the forum this year, I'll have to see how busy snotty reindeers and slovenly snails keep me! I have, however, written a 2000 AD Covers Uncovered post, and plan to do ALL the Megazine ones going forward, I really do miss it, and this place!

General / Megazine cover of the Year 2021 RESULTS.
03 January, 2022, 11:29:34 AM
Much more clear cut than the Prog vote, the winner, by some margin, was the wonderful Colin MacNeil with his daring cover of Meg 437. I love this!

In second place, stub guns ahoy with Dave Taylor's dazzlingly intricate cover to Meg 438...

And third, Alex Ronald's creepy as erm... Hell, Devlin in Hell cover!

Bubbling under were John Higgins in fourth and Dave Taylor again in fifth places.

Happy New Year y'all!

So.... the results are in and counted, and the winner, by one point, is...

Same as the OFFICIAL official Prog cover vote, yes, Chris Weston does a double whammy with his iconic jazz hands cover of 2260 (despite it featuring Walter!)

Narrowly missing the top spot, was the Dream team of Cliff Robinson and Dylan Teague with their Iconic Jaegar cover of Prog 2248:

Aaaaaaand in joint third place, it's Simon Davis' terrifying thematic Thistlebone cover of Prog 2232, 'orrible, and Dan Cornwell's amazingly trippy Dredd cover of Prog 2217! Fantastic!

HM's go to PJ who just came in fourth place for his Vertigo inspired Chimpski cover of 2234 and fifth place Cliff and Dylan again, for their soggy Dredd cover of Prog 2252.

Well done to all the artdroidsm and thanks to everyone who voted, legends all!

General / Re: MEGAZINE COVER OF THE YEAR 2021 VOTE
01 January, 2022, 01:11:34 PM
Tricky choice again! I'm going:

1 - 437: McNeil's Daring cover is just genius.
2 - 429: Great colour palette (reminds me of Higgins of old) and a striking, well considered image. Totally tells the story.
3 - 436: Gotta love a balls to the wall all action lawmaster image. Fantastic stuff!

Yep, tricky this year! I'm going:

1 2250: That audacious Dredd cover that only McMahon can pull off. I love the rendering, the boots and the overall design. So striking!

2 2260: Chris Weston can do no wrong (despite featuring Walter on a cover!) I love the nostalgia, the overall silliness and the amazingly camp 2000 AD logo. Fantastic!

3 2256: Great robot design and lovely composition. Young Dredd really does look like the man he gorws up to be...

General / MEGAZINE COVER OF THE YEAR 2021 VOTE
20 December, 2021, 08:18:54 PM
Please vote for your top 3 MEGAZINE covers of the year for the Judge Dredd Megazine. Again, please be explicit about which is your first, second and third choice as I am profoundly stupid.

You can see 'em all here:

https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/megazines/2021

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday 2nd January 2021!

Merry Christmas, ya Bams!

Well, if there's one thing this messageboard is lacking, it's any kind of vote or poll! So, once again, it's time for the annual 2000 AD Cover of the Year vote! You can see all the covers (by my reckoning that's progs 2213 - 2262) here , and of course, click 'em to enlarge 'em:

https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/2000-ad/2021

Alternatively, you can check out the official 2000 AD Covers Uncovered part of the site by the Godlike Richard Bruton for really in depth breakdowns of most of em, unsullied with silly nonsense like logos and taglines! Go here:

https://2000ad.com/news/tag/2000adcoversuncovered/

I'd like you to CLEARLY list your THREE favourites, in order. THREE points will be awarded to your fave, TWO points for second and ONE point for third. Please try and be explicit with this and maybe give a little comment to say why you chose each cover as it makes it a bit more interesting for the rest of us!

The closing date is midnight on Sunday 2nd January 2022...

A Meg thread will be along shortly...

Thanks chaps, and Mini Solo!

A little bit of behind the scenes gossip - the lady who sings Norbert is the posh lady who says "The News at Ten, on ITN!" I think it's a career low for her...

Not 2000 AD related (sorry) but there's a lovely(!) festive video from me here - Norbert the Green Nosed Reindeer! I hope you all like it!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

As Sheridan rightly said, my big news and reason for my absence from the forum over recent years is that I've been working on my dream project - a collection of professionally animated and narrated Multisensory stories for children and adults with severe special needs. It's finally released early next year and is looking AMAZING! I'm extremely proud of what has been achieved.

Check out a little preview here: https://www.helpkidzlearn.com/inclusive-stories-coming-soon and some very cool behind the scenes stuff here: https://scotttyrrelldesign.com/inclusive-stories-animated-films

A recurring character in my stores is Sheldon Snail (he makes a little Easter Egg style cameo in every story) so, for the advent calendar, I thought I'd write his one and only 2000 AD crossover sensory story. Hmmmm, it explains a lot...

Hope you like it:

Merry Christmas everyone, and well done (particularly to the tireless Colin) for keeping the forum homefires burning in these times of social media! Love to you all!

Pete.

Prog / Re: Prog 2256 - Total Excitement Overload.

I bloody LOVED that Dredd, though the Fast and the Furious blokes were a bit on the nose. Ben Willsher has always been amazing at Lawmaster-based Dredds!

There were some coll little cameos in the strip too!

Games / Re: PlayStation 5 / Xbox Series X mega-thread!

I have both, and I must say, the Xbox is getting the most play time. You're right about playing games you normally wouldn't CalHab, I downloaded the Plague Tale game the other day and it was excellent. Highly recommended if you enjoyed Hellblade.

Prog / Re: Prog 2245 - Gun Shark!

I loved how Higgins' Dredd took me back to Phantom of the Shopperawith all that scaffolding, I wonder if that was intentional?

I must say, I worried a bit when reading it. I know we can't have him forever, but it felt a little like Wagner maybe revisiting things for the last time and maybe wrapping things up. Maybe I'm reading too much into it all.
