Really shitty news, I have purchased every FCBD issue since its creation and enjoyed them all without exception, in fact they were the only ones I actively sought out avoiding all the Marvel/DC rubbish!
I can only hope that the decision is reversed for the following year!
Dude! I think you've been stung there.
We never really die.

Only 99p from Disposableheroes.com, so I don't begrudge them!  ;)

For some it is the only option.  The other of course being Eamonn's sterling signed special (for charity).

Spikes

Some speculation here: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/11/06/diamond-kicks-2000ad-with-eric-powell-judge-dredd-out-of-free-comic-book-day/

That's a real shame. The 2000ad FCBD prog was a great read, and a lot of thought (not to mention time, and money was obviously put into it)

From the others I've happened to have flicked through, no real effort was made. Least that's how it  seemed.

So has this put the tin lid on any 2000ad signing at Forbidden Planet for next year?
Was really hoping to catch this again.

Very disappointing news; 2000 AD's offerings have consistently been amongst the very best of the bunch - certainly better than anything I saw from the Big Two.

I don't see who benefits from a size restriction, and it sounds like Rebellion were not given reasonable notice of the requirements. And worse still:

"I understand that 2000AD publishers Rebellion did try to repackage their offering but to no avail." - Are we to understand that Rebellion offered to produce a smaller comic, and were turned down? That sounds completely unfair.

That does sound off, to say the least. 2000 AD was what got me interested in FCBD, although I mostly ended up going down the Disposable Heroes route, since my local shops don't partake. But I did notice that every year, my non-2000 AD swag diminished, to the point I only got two other comics last year. Perhaps 2000 AD was just too good. Clearly, it should have been half the size, with half as many pages, yet full of ads and reprint!

Still, silver lining and all with the summer special. Honestly, I'd rather give Rebellion a few quid for that than get a freebie, but it's a crying shame that chance for exposure has been robbed from the Galaxy's Greatest.

They obviously can't handle the truth of pure Thrill-Power given to the masses so freely.

Me too - I also used Disposable Heroes one year when I failed to get into town in time, but usually, the event did exactly what it was supposed to - got me up on a Saturday morning (unheard of), queued up to get into a comic shop that I sometimes don't visit for months, and usually ended up buying quite a few other items while I was there.

The FCBD prog was always head and shoulders above everything else in terms of value and quality - well-selected reprints ancient and modern, and a hefty chunk of new material too.

I usually came away with over a dozen other 'comics' (brochures of ads), some of which piqued my interest; but none of those is going to drag me out of bed and into the city centre on a Saturday.

SuperSurfer

Great shame for 2000AD and comic shops. I for one won't be interested in FCBD in 2016. Over last few years I didn't bother to pick up a comics goodie bag as what I did pick up over previous years was of zero interest to be polite and if not to be polite a load of crap.

Happy to spend my hard earned dough on the Sci-Fi Special version.

What baffles though is: what did FCBD have to lose by including a resized 2000AD?

Grugz

never mind, at least we're getting the specials .
don't get into an argument with an idiot,he'll drag you down to his level then win with experience!

Though, wouldn't we have got the Special(s) anyway?

This is all very frustrating because ERIC POWELL IS THE PNE MAN DREDD TEAM WE NEED!

And if Mike Allred was to pop along as well all the better!

ZenArcade

Stunned by this. The reason sounds nonsensical. I would have zero interest in going to a local FCBD other than to pickup the excellent 2000AD on offer. A real pity. Z

Bag o shite. I think 2000ad embarrassed the rest with their superior effort. I too got a few other titles and they were little more than pamphlets or flyers. Rather than try to raise their game to Tharg's standard they simply decided that it's their ball and the Green One can't play any more. Don't worry Tharg you've still got us! I for one would accept any freebie you want to shove my way although I appreciate it's new readers you want rather than make happy the 30 year men.

SuperSurfer

I always made a point of purchasing a graphic novel or bunch of other stuff to support comic shops on FCBD.

Minus 2000AD though, I can't be arsed with Free Super Hero Comic Book Day.
